As if Chad wasn't enough of a distraction before this happened. Can you imagine what this would have done to the team to have him around after this? You think his mind would be 100% on football? (was it ever?) His life just got turned upside down whether it was his fault or not. Joe and company made the only decision they could. And it was the right one IMO. They put the organization first. Its not like he was going to make us a playoff caliber team this year any way. Im glad hes gone. Let the young guys who are actually playing their asses off get a fair shot.
Is anyone terrified at the thought of throwing out a rookie QB with Naanee and Roberto Wallace as his 2 starting WRs??? I like both of their potential... but as of right now it is pretty scary man.
Because its following up on what he had said to Chad previously, and what you saw in Hard Knocks when Philbin was by himself and asked if "chad would hurt his chances of making the team" or something to that affect. Philbin answered "yes, absolutely". It's basically if he continues to conduct himself in a detrimental manner to the organization, then he would be released, traded or whatever - as long as he was longer in the program. Philbin just backed up what he said. Anyone can say they'll do something, the ones people tend to notice are the ones that follow through. But that just me. He talked the talk and then walked the walk. That's it, and yes the young guys probably noticed.
Yeah, I think it's pretty scary. Especially if the ground game never materializes because the OL isn't gelling.
You'd probably see a situation where their reps would be rotated, with or without Hartline being healthy. They'd see more time obviously, but I don't think Hartline will be out in week 1 or anything - unless I have missed something. It might change the play calling a bit in terms of formation whereby you might utilize the likes of Charles Clay and Egnew in an effort to create mismatches through personnel other than wideouts. Fasano, Clay and Egnew (Egnew simply by position) would become more important factors in our passing game. But yes, it wouldn't be ideal.
And as soon as he decided to go that route, his game went with it really... To be great, the game requires dedication at the highest level, when you see obvious choices that deny the athlete the time to focus in the game, it's time for a red flag.
I'd like to think our secret weapon Charles Clay will be a nice security blanket for the rook. I think Bush can be pretty dynamic in this offense. The line is a huge concern I hope they improve against Carolina.
Hey man, I'm cool with it. Like I said, I want to see how he handles it on Tuesday. If he cuts Chad while looking at the ground 6+ times like he did last time they talked, I'll be a little disappointed. But hopefully I'm just reading too much into it. Like I said, it just rubbed me the wrong way...
I don't know about secret weapon. He's a nice player. We have three nice players at tight end and contrary to popular opinion I think we may even have a fourth in Les Brown. But the only way you can live off the tight ends in the passing game is if you have a really strong ground game and for that to happen the OL needs to shape up and stop making Reggie Bush have to create something out of nothing.
lol obviously not. But we've now cut our veteran and most accomplished WR. Bess is now the most experienced we have. Needless to say, I was scared before this cut ever happened... but our WR situation keeps getting scarier for a rookie QB to have to deal with.
man you guys are quick. i just left the in-laws house and there was no news of this, i get home turn on nfl network see the breaking news, check this site and boom...5 pages of chatter on this breaking news. lol. i was hoping chad would work out for us but i dont want any wife head butters on our team. on the other hand after reading several pages of the art of headbutts in the other thread, and seeing videos of his wife from vh1, i think chad might be innocent. even if he isnt innocent, i wouldnt mind head butting that biotch after seeing how she acts.
Ya. But the thing that concerns me is that while Tannehill has shown the ability to throw over the middle, I think he is a lot more comfortable working the sidelines. And we dont really have anyone on the outside to match up with that comfort to ease his transition/development...
There were lots of holes to fill and only so many options to fill them with. If we got the foundation for our Coach, OL, RBs and QB this year, I'll call that an overwhelming success...regardless of the state of WRs....wouldn't you?
Totally agree Richard! But Finascious was referencing, attacking and attempting to invalidate the viewpoint some held that Philbin seemed to have an 'awkward' dynamic when he talked about the swearing with Chad. That's about interpersonal skills and relatability and stuff. Leadership wise, integrity wise, decision making wise he is great so far. I'm totally impressed with how he handled this. Like a Boss.
If hard knocks have producers that are about the game, they will showcase Philbins direct quotes of consequence and paint him in a light of discipline and team.
I'm curious as to how many TEs we keep. I think GB kept 5 at one time, and if they want to keep someone like Mastrud, I could see them keeping Brown (as one of the last guys on the roster) if they're worried about him being poached.
You get a chance to revive your career on the team that you grew up rooting for and this is what you do? This is extremely disappointing, I don't blame them one bit for getting rid of him.
Yeah, I'm with you, but it's an indefensible position. It comes down to an intuition thing, not a logical observable thing. We just didn't dig the vibe he gave off. lol. Not gonna win many arguments that way. Besides, we ALL want the same thing here... for Philbin to have great success as our head coach. From what I've seen so far, I believe he has a good chance.
It's odd, most young QBs tend to favor the middle of the field. They tend to be easier, faster reads that allow them to have some of their peripheral vision on the pass rush. Aaron Rodgers was one of the only young QBs I can recall that seemed to favor the outside throws. RT seems to be the same way. I wonder if it has something to do with Philbin or jus a coincidence.
I don;t see Les Brown getting to the point where you want him on the field. He needs to learn to at least block at ALL let alone adequately. Reggie will burn out if he has to expend the energy of five carries on every single run for us. We really need DTrain to start showing up... but he is they kind of guy who needs holes, and can;t create them... if Lamar Miller can learn the system and improve his blocking quickly enough, he and Bush may have to spell one another. Miller creates more than DT. No clue where Slaton figures in.
Wallace on the outside with Tannehill will be a boom bust cycle I think.. big plays and miscommunication INTs when Wallace runs a poor (or wrong) route against a vet corner. I wouldn;t be surprised to see Bess take a few snaps out wide if hartline doesn't get back in a week or two. They need a reliable receiver out there IF the rookie starts. Big IF. Don't count Matt Moore out.
That oline does worry me, I keep going back and watching and watching to find some glimmer of hope, and it's just not there at this point, they couldn't get out if their own way.. Man with that coach we have breathing down their necks I thought they would be a good unit..I'm at a loss for an explanation.
FIVE! Holy crap. I can see keeping five if ONE of them is a CLay type who can also play FB, and another is an OL/TE hybrid. Isn't Yeatman like that? Is he still around?
Okay... based on the type of running we've seen both do in the PAST, Miller seems more LIKELY to create than DT... though that is unproven at the NFL level. I think Miller will need to be on top of the mental aspect of the game before they let him out there. Thing is, when **** breaks down with a bad OLine.. it's less about the designed plays, and being a good mental guy, and becomes about instincts and elusiveness. Miller seems to have those in spades.
Well, that's nice to hear. Any time you and Aaron Rogers are the exception, it can;t be all bad. In the Gruden ESPN bit with Tannehill, Griuden asked why he liked throwing wide so much, was it because he enjoyed showing off his arm and Ryan just flushed and grinned before composing himself a touch and saying "Thjat's part of it." He has an ego, this one, and loves that he CAN fire it out there. I love that in a QB. Once he is confident he KNOWS what's going on in the middle of the field, rather than THINKS he knows... he's the type who will fire it in there fearlessly. I think his short experience at QB means he isn't totally comfortable rrisking those throws until he is sure what he's seeing in there. On the outside (where he played receiver) he can draw on QB AND WR experience to know where he can put the ball so only the Wr can get to it. He has no LBs, Safeties and other crap to figure out, coveragewise.
Yes , well sort of , in name only , not on the field unfortunately. Never ever saw any hope for him as a TE , but that was another coach ...
I think Mastrud has a chance if they want a 2nd TE who can block well. 4 total at TE, with Egnew and Clay the others, would not surprise me. Yeatman was playing LT on the 3rd line in the game.
