My summer internship is about 1hr 15min from school (we get free housing), so a girl (fellow intern @ same school) and I decided to car pool. Great, we just cut half the amount of money required for gas.

Both of our cars are from 90/91. My transmission has been going for months (only paid 650 for the car) and I didn't think it would make it to the end of the summer... but she did. However, halfway through the summer, my car started acting up. I didn't think she'd make it to the middle of July. So when my carpooler's muffler fell off, I installed it at no cost assuming she'd have to drive the last couple of weeks (I said I'd chip in for gas, I told her how long I thought my car had left). She agreed, it was a fair exchange (roughly 90$ in labor/parts if she went to a mechanic). I also have done minor repairs, checked her spark plugs, and cleaned her throttle body when she would randomly stall out.

Now that we have one week, I'm 100% certain my car will make it. When telling her this, I brought up the muffler/throttle body repairs... "I really appreciated that!" and I responded with "I saved you over 100$"... "I praise you, no sarcasm!"

Pfffft. WTF. What do I do? I mean, I did the stuff assuming she'd help me back in return, but now the original plan isn't needed! Any suggestions? PLEASE! I spent about 6hours in total on her car.

Just walk into her room. Pull out your balls. Plop them on the table and say, "They go back in when I get reimbursed. Your move, Chief."

Man up. You made a deal and now that your circumstances have changed you want to change the deal. That isn't how life works. Sooner or later your position will be flipped and you'll get yours. You spent the time on her car to insure that you had a ride.

Agreed. You can't try and recoup anything now, nor should you IMO. Just treat it as a favor to a friend/co-worker, and hope it comes back around for you some day.

Dude, some favors just go unpaid. Take this as a life lesson and move on.

Ya. I figure I can't ask for anything.... but I did give her 2 tickets($120) to an amusement park that she said she "owes" me for.. :o

I think my only issue is that I would have given someone something if they did that stuff for me. I guess we all have different expectations. Thanks guys.
