Who would have thought that the Marlins are going for the sweep tonight against Arizona?

When I saw Webb, Ownings, and Haren as the pitchers for the series, I thought we would win one game at best.

Now, at worst, we win 2 and the series, at best, we sweep.

Either way, its a win win situation.

absolutley, to be successful you have to atleast shoot for winning the series....and if you get the sweep thats even better....this is the team with the best record in baseball we are beating......lets get the sweep and get back in form....

Also, we are beating the D-backs.....with 3 of our starting pitchers on DL, our left fielder on DL who had great numbers(willingham) before getting hurt
    .341 AVG, 6 HRs, 31 hits, 5 2bs, 2 3bs, 16 rbis, 16 runs scored

and our best player (hanley) is having the worst slump of his young career!!!! I love this team!!!

Don't get too excited, we need some of those guys to come back and play well almost immediately; we're hitting the summer stretch where playoff fortunes win and die.

Wow, we just swept the D-Backs with a 4-0 shutout. Great way to end the series, and we needed those three wins; the Cowards and Phithies are 1.5 games back.

    Discussion for the Fans

I heard that Josh Johnson is improving in his rehab and so is Mitre and might be coming back in the near future. My question is this:

What is your rotation whey they come back (one of them or both). Who goes to the Pen?

    My rotation:

    S.Olsen
    M. Hendrickson.
    A. Miller
    J. Johnson
    R. Nolasco (although he scares me every time he pitches)

Badenhop (sp?) and Mitre to the pen.

Either way, looks like a nice solid rotation.

I'd actually send Badenhop down, and put Johnson in the bullpen until we're 100% for-sure about him. He's missed so much time due to the one injury that I'd ease him back in just to make sure everything's okay.

Yes we did. Dont worry, we'll be back. And remember, paybacks are a beatch..

Probably don't want to keep up that bad attitude. Karma has a real bad way off doing this:
    ---> KARMA :nutkicker: <---Silverphin :wink2:

Credit to the Marlins. You just beat two of the best pitchers in Webb and Haren in the NL, and your pitching absolutely silenced the bats that have been thunderous to this point.

Hope we are back in the NL West soon. We need a little time to re-coop and lick our wounds after that brutal series.. :pity:

This is not a knock (the Marlins have played great ball lately)

But is that rotation going to win the divsion or make the wild card? Honest question.

miller looks great the last few starts, kids got confidence and thats HUGE for a youngster, i think the great thing about it all, is this team actually realizes IT CAN do something this year.....they really have proof after this sweep, that anything can happen, now im not getting ahead of myself, they got a long season ahead, but atleast they can say....they can do whatever they want, they just gotta play good all around baseball (example: they had NO errors all series) thats huge....and clutch hitting, and great pitching.

Can this rotation win the division or WC? who knows....thats why i watch every game, all i know they are fun as hell to watch right now, and i am loving every minute of it!

Johnson is ahead of schedule but probably won't be back until around September from what I hear. Anibal will be back far ahead of JJ.

The rotation will most likely be

    Olsen
    Hendrickson
    Sanchez
    Miller
    Mitre

Even though honestly I'm not a firm believer in Mitre. He's a toss up with Nolasco for me.

Thats the correct attitude to have. I know ur up there in NC. But I seriously want to blow my brains out listening to talk radio down here. Every day they talk about how great the Marlins are and how great Larry Beinfest is with his 21 Million dollar payroll.

I never call those shows but I almost did the other day (thought about calling Joe Rose because I think hes the biggest D-bag on radio). I wanted to ask him if hed be up this teams *** if they fell 5 games under .500 by August?

I also wanted to ask him why he's so excited about a 1st place team that only drew 5,000 fans the other day?

You have the right attitude. They are fun to watch, we'll see what happens. Listen to 560 for 5 minutes and you'd think that team had already won the World Series! I dont have anything against the Marlins, but people (not you guys) in South Fla need to calm down a little. Its ok to be excited, you should be, but wait till July to tell me they're a contender. Not May...

In my opinion no. But then again what NL East team's pitching staff looks like it could win the division? All 5 teams are a mess (some more than others). I wasn't a believer in the Marlins at the beginning of the year, and I'm still not, but it's nice that they're playing so well.

Ummmmm, the Braves have the best ERA in the NL (without a healthy Smoltz)

Hudson, Jurrjens, Glavine, Reyes and the emergence of Jorge Campillo make us a contender. Especially with the way our bullpen has pitched.

As far as whether that rotation can win the division/wildcard the simple answer is it doesn't have to. It's not a terrible rotation by any stretch, and if there is any advantage to others in the division it is easily made up by the gap in hitting.

    The way I see it:

    Olsen is pitching great
Miller was the #1 overall pick for a reason
Hendrickson is pitching better than ever after eye surgery
    Mitre is off and on
Johnson may not be back, but is our ace.
Sanchez has flashed signs of greatness

Next year you can add Volstad and Tucker into that mix.

I never said the Braves weren't a contender but that pitching staff isn't anything to write home about. I like Hudson and Jurrjens a lot but the rest are ok, nothing special. Especially Glavine who couldn't get out of his own way last year.

Every week we get the 'you wont be in it in a week or so' and every week we are. Of course we havent won anything yet, and some people take it to the extreme. But as an example.

If the Dolphins start 4-0 don't you think there will be similar excitment?

Oh I would agree its not horrible. Infact I like it. Hendrickson is obviously going to even out (the guy won 4 games last year) but the other pitchers are only going to get better. I wouldnt expect a whole lot from Sanchez, but if Johnson can stay healthy and Miller continues to progress you may have something in the next couple years.

Olsen....well, he's Scott Olsen. Hes another AJ Burnett. If he stays healthy and keeps his head out of his *** theres no way you can afford him come contract time (unless ownership decides to spend money).

You guys REALLY need to re-access this Marlins pitching.

They all but shut out the most explosive offensive team in the National League.

The D-backs have absolutely destroyed the NL West, which had the projected best pitching in MLB going into the season.

I think the downfall of the team, much like the D-backs is lack of veteren leadership. If a these kids contintue to believe in themselves, they could make a serious run at the pennant.

Dolphins are a different story. This is a football town, people expect that from this team. This team starts off the preseason 2-0 people are talking Super Bowl.

Hendrickson very well could even out. He had eye surgery in the offseason though to improve his vision (just to 20/20 I believe, he had poor eyesight before) so maybe he won't level off. Not going to say either way but you could very well be right. Also he is just a one year fix IMO.

Disagree about Sanchez, he has as much potential as anyone on the staff except possibly Miller.

Agree about Olsen. Rumor is he wants out at the first chance he gets. Then again it's just a rumor. Plus that is the main reason we have Volstad and Tucker ready in the minors.

Johnson probably wont be back. He may or may not be as good as before, who knows. Don't wanna get into that.

Time will tell on Miller. Loads of potential but he could slide back to pitching poorly.

I think we would both agree that there may not be a true ace at the top (unless Miller pans out) but it's more than solid 1-5. With a strong bullpen and lineup.

True, but the Dolphins have also been just as bad just as often recently. Just because a town leans one way doesn't mean specific fans do. Just like everyone in the NL East (minus Washington maybe) should be excited to be in it right now.

The problem with this team (and it will be until they decide to spend more money) is by the time these young guys develop enough to become a contender you cant afford them anymore.

Ownnership has even been mum about the situation when asked if the spending will increase once the new stadium is in place...

EDIT: Want to applaud ownership for signing Hanley. And Hanley for signing and not waiting for a Miggy type payday.

Look I agree you should be excited. I'll be the first to say the Fish are a great young team. It just urks me that the fans down here talk about how great the team is, yet they cant draw 15,000 people to a Saturday game!

You cant compare Marlins and Dolphins fans IMO. Miami is and always will be a football town...

You can't compare the number of fans. You can however compare how much individual fans love their team. I know a bunch of fans who love the Marlins just as much if not more than we all love the Dolphins.

We'll have to agree to dissagree. I just dont see what a new stadium (in a horrible location) is going to do when a first place team cant draw fans. JMO though. Im a baseball guy first and foremost and live 20 mins from Dolphin stadium. I love going to games even when the fish arent playing my team (the Braves).

Sad that the majority of South Florida residents dont follow that trend...
