Great write up man, very interesting and fun to read, keep up the good work. Just by looking at the TC photos Reshad Jones looked huge, I'm thinking this is going to be his break out season.
at 6'1 215, really good genetics, he's built for safety, and has showed why he was getting pub in the ota's.
''ArmandoSalguero Ryan Tannehill, meanwhile, looked sharp considering this was first day. One INT but otherwise largely on target.'' The first part is very true, the 2nd part is completely false, it was a perfect pass..perfect.
Ben Volin @BenVolinPBP Practice over. Tannehill threw with great anticipation today against the 2's. Moore and Garrard were up and down..''
He has unique size. I think that's why some people criticize him IMO unfairly. His play style just looks different due to his size. Reality is that he's missed fewer tackles than VD and has generally outplayed him too. But fans tends to only remember big hits and the dropped INTs. There have been too many drops of course, but most fans don't have the ability to recognize the ball talent and just focus on the result. The results for both of our top CBs has been disappointing, but I'm hopeful they can both make the jump to maturity and consistency.
Omar Kelly @OmarKelly Ryan Tannehill got picked off by Gary Guyton on a dropped pass that was dropped. huh?? I need to correct myself, in my estimation Ryan threw two poor passes, one down the seam to les brown which I believe I put in the first post, and the one other poor throw down the seam on the other side of the field.. I do want to reiterate the fine play of Lamar Miller, besides the fumble, he stuck that linebacker on that blitz in a bigtime 11 on 11 play, that play will go a long way and be reviewd by his coaches with excitement, also, the 35 yard wheel route was a thing of beauty, also had some very nice runs..
He was technically picked twice (pending a coaches review on the scooped 2nd one). Neither of which were bad throws though. They hit Messam and Wallace right in the numbers...
Nice write-up deej. Thanks for the effort. Nice to see you didn't party too much the night before to get yourself over to camp.
Omar Kelly @OmarKelly For those falling in love with Ryan Tannehill day 1, keep in mind he was picked of twice. Tipped passes, but still happened.'' He hasn't a clue..both balls were not ''tipped'' {that would imply a defender was involved}, they were legit, absolute drops..what the hell man?
Was Chris Clemons back running with the 1st team defense? There was some concern over him being injured a couple of days ago. Thanks for the great reports DJ!!! They are reminiscent to the ones we used to get from Ozzy.
Oz is the man, I'm a horrible writer, try to write like I conversate, with poor grammar structure, if you read it really fast it will make more sense..lol..but thanks big C.. Clemons was on the sideline today..no crutches, no noticeable limp...it sucks because I think he would be a good player for us..competition is between Culver and Jimmy.
Hopefully they are just being cautious with Clemons and he is back out there soon. Was his leg wrapped up in any way that you could notice?
I can't stand him, it baffles my mind on how he get's paid, and his BIG head tweets he makes to people like he knows everything is ridiculous.
nah me and nasty did not meet up today unfortunately. got to say, a longshot player that keeps in my head is that dude Javorski lane, this dude ran a deep seam route with a catch, and on another, flexed out wide, came in motion, turned into the line and destroyed the linebacker on a lead block..it's just about how he moves at that size.he's quick man, got some wiggle, and ill say it again, hes in shape.
Love what I am reading about Vernon, anybody else think Miami scored big time with this kid? Cant wait to see what he is like in a few years...
I keep hearing at camp with the folks there that he and Lamar are good people who come from good families..His game is built on strength, and I've seen that its translating, he seems to play in the backfield a bit, and he doesn't seem afraid of this stage.
Maybe it's just me being optimistic, but I think this draft class will go down as one of our best ever. Tannehill, Martin, Vernon, Egnew and Miller and 5 guys that could be starters for the next decade.
Thanks so much DJ. I've been very busy and haven't been able to post, but I've checked out your reports. Great stuff you lucky mofo!! I have to buy a place down there. The info on Tanny is just so awesome. It has me psyched and hopeful. I know it's way early and we have to take everything with a grain of salt because every year we here certain positive reports on certain players and we all get psyched and talk endlessly about them and it sometimes turns out to be nothing, but this has to be encouraging. The one aspect of Tanne of which I was unsure was if he had the right mental make-up or whatever. The 'it' factor. The 'something special' or whatever term one wishes to use. That is the most important factor of being a great NFL QB. That's what separates the greats from the rest. I've seen games and film of him, but I hadn't seen much of him in interviews or interactions with his teammates and coaches, etc. The more I've seen and heard of him lately in this off-season, the more I am impressed. He seems to have that 'moxie' and swagger and confidence, etc etc, etc. Very encouraging. Thanks bro.
You guys are so jealous of him, it's so funny. I love his responses to guys like you. He dgaf what you think, and that's exactly how it should be. Lol, lol.
I don't hear any jealousy of Omar Kelly, people just seem to think he's an idiot who thinks far too highly of himself. I do hear jealousy of our members who are able to attend and have the ability to factually relay what they see. Their opinions may differ, but they're considered worth listening to. Kelly is not a guy I even bother following. If he weren't part of the Sun-sentinel sports section I probably wouldn't even know he existed.
Miller Time! U Know!!! That was my fave chant of the day, with the J-E-T-S Suck coming in a close second.
Spot on Raf!!!. Just because Omar works for the S-S, does not mean his ability to watch and analyze the players is any better or even as good as guys like DJ, Nasty or Ozzy. Heck, I even put more stock into what that guy from 7-8 yrs ago DirtyCashHoldin had to say than I do Omar. Actually I kind of miss ol' DirtyCash personally. He was always so upbeat and optimistic.
Consider this: -Miller and Bush blossom in this offense and DTrain turns it around and we wind up with a 3 headed rushing and receiving attack out of the back field..do they still put Miller on returns? Then looking at the Wr corps, if Gates flames out, not a returner in the bunch, meaning Nolan Carrol and DBess would have to handle those roles...unless Matthews in effect replaces Gates on the roster. Clyde Gates has opportunity staring him in the face, hope he can seize it.
I think Miller needs to come out of the gate (no pun) returning kicks, hell even Adrian Peterson returned a few early on. I just can not stand having a PR with basically no chance of making a game changing play. Having Bess return kicks is SUCH a Sparano kind of move it makes me vomit. Fk 4 extra yards of field position, give me a playmaker damn it.
Good distinction. Still, I worry that some QB's simply get haunted by drops 'following them' wherever they go. Can't explain it, but it could be timing, sync with receivers, placement, touch, the angle/release point or spin... who the hell knows. I just know I've read Ryan had a lot of WR drops in college and I hope that doesn;t follow him here because I don't give a **** who we blame on paper, an INT is still an INT against us.
I haven't seen any kickoff drills at camp (Sat or Sun) so I don't know who the coaches have in mind there, but I agree that Gates needs to step up and KR is probably his best chance to make the team. After spending Sat with the 2nd teamers, he worked at SE with the starters in 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 on Sunday but he wasn't much of a factor. The QBs didnt seem to be looking in his direction at all. Philbin mentioned being right handed on offense in the early stages, and Nannee hasnt seen much of the ball either, so I dont want to get to down on Gates after a couple days of practice. But he has that Ted Ginn quality about him, giving ground on his routes, shying away from contact of any kind, not getting separation or giving his QB a good target etc. He's one of the guys I have high hopes for but he needs to step it up soon or he's going to find himself on the outside looking in. IMHO DThomas is our most important guy at RB. He's not a guy who defenses can key in on (run/pass), he can give us yards after contact in the run game and pass protect consistently, which is important b/c w/ our QB/WR group I think we're going to a lot of stacked boxes and pressure packages this season. So far, Bush and Miller have been split out at WR or in the slot A LOT. DT has gotten some looks outside, but not as many. After the way that Bush was used last year, its refreshing to see that the new staff has a little more creativity in terms of creating matchup problems. Can't remember if you were a Charles Clay fan or not but he has been impressive so far. Outside of Bess, he's been the most impressive WR/TE on the field IMO. OTOH Michael Egnew has yet to catch my eye. Still waiting to see some of the athleticism that I heard about. Les Brown has some quicks to him and decent hands to go with them. I give him an outside chance of being the 3rd TE, but that would leave us short handed in our short yardage/GL sets because none of them (Clay/Egnew/Brown) are effective inline blockers. Defensively, I'll just say I have no worries at this point. Outside of Clemons, all of them look friggin good. Soliai and Starks, Dansby & Burnett, Davis and Smith, Odrick and Wake, R Jones looks like a baller, Misi looks more fluid than ever. Culver and Jimmy Wilson haven't shown much at FS, I think Clemons is still the front runner if he can get back on the field any time soon. Jacquies Smith and Josh Kaddu both look like they could be players, Guyton looks like a beast, Trusnik and Spitler had better watch out. Ditto for Nolan Carrol, he's got a couple guys gunning for his spot as well.
Anyone know whether DJ is at camp for one more day? I thought he posted that he would be there through today.
