How much it sets the QB back is definitely debatable, but it is a distraction and the supposed QB of the future should be getting in every rep possible. If it gets done within the next few days I can probably mostly agree with you that it's not a huge deal. I'd still call it ineptitude, but on a very small scale.
Even one day is inexcusable to me because of how ridiculously small an issue this is. Here's a blurb about Minnesota's negotiations with Matt Kalil over the offset language: http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_/id/44053/matt-kalil-wins-offset-fight-with-vikings So even letting it go on for one day is a black mark on the permanent record, to me. But at the same time, if it only ends up 2-3 days, as gandalfin says, then this is no doubt overblown. However, consider the following tweet from Jeff Darlington: I know ULL you say it's just pessimism, which is true...but at the same time, the above tweet is a little scary, no?
Sounds a lot like when the Wake Holdout Thread went for 20-something pages only to see him given an extension in a few days and that thread going all of 3 pages. Cranberry juice.
Right now, this is trying to generate a hurricane warning out of a mosquito's flatulence. Give it a week, then begin to get out the pitchforks and tar - but don't start the fire even then. Methinks there is more afoot than is being allowed to be heard in the remote proximity of a reporter's source!
No. "My sense" is not anything to worry about. Its not fact and for all we know it is because Darlington has heartburn. Now it may be true, if it is, that sucks and is scary. But I'd like something more concrete first. Hell, he could explain why he had that sense, even.
if tanny sucks, I assume we'll give him about 3 years, I can't see us saying "If only he had those 2 or 3 days extra his rookie season"
yeah I mean I can understand being a little cautious, as we've seen mass hold outs before, but if all it is is what seems to be a little bit of money, I can't see it lasting much longer.
You know, I'm not really a pessimistic person by nature. In this case I think the sense of fair play is really what has really gotten me going. All the players slotted above and below Tannehill do not have offset language contracts. Why should Tannehill have to accept one? The possibility of not playing this year is no reason. Toss in the fact that there is so little to gain financially for the team, it comes across to me as an untenable position. The only argument that makes a little sense is how it plays over the long term, but if the FO is so worried about this, then they should make sure all the other teams are on board so they are not singling out one player to try to cave to their demands.
That's how you interpreted it. That's not reporting and that's been my problem with all of sports media. Like has already been said, how many times has the media been wrong lately? They were wrong about coaching search, Manning, Wake's holdout, Hardknocks, etc. Reporting = Facts. "My sense =/= Facts.
Or irritable bowel syndrome. That's my excuse for not being able to handle bad Dolphin news without bolting to the can.
Ireland on Tannehill: http://prod.www.dolphins.clubs.nfl.com/media/videos/Paul-Soliai-Media-Availability-/d9457824-ded0-4fe2-a53d-2446cbfedc42#?id=1b157ba7-0bce-473f-b3d0-26e705cd95da
They are trying to bully Tannehill around because he will not be starting this year. They saw what they needed to see this offseason to determine what they think his was going to be a fair contract for him. In my opinion its irrelevant because Tannehill is worthless to us this year, hell the next two years in my opinion.
Whatever leverage the Dolphins have because they know Tannehill is not likely to start, is lost once Tannehill also realizes he's not likely to start.
Jeff Darlington reports for NFL Network that the deal is moving in a positive direction and could be done sooner rather than later.
I love quotes like that. "Positive direction" What direction? Either Tannehill caves and the off set language is in, or the Fins cave and the language is out. There is no direction. It either gets done or it doesn't. Just stupid
Yeah, for a lot of people it's terrible. I don't really think I have it or if I do it's mild. My stomach does do terrible things though when I go through bouts of anxiety. Dolphins and anxiety, unfortunately have gone hand in hand for me the last few seasons...
This is my point. "Positive direction" means just slightly more than "my sense". This isn't reporting.
lol right, I could care less if Tannehill gives in or the dolphins do. I just want to see him throwing the football.
Those quotes scream, "I'm an insider and should have insider information, but I don't so I'm just going to make some generic rhetoric and then backtrack it a little bit later. That way I will be right either way. Win. Where is my cocaine? I left it right besides my nose last time I saw it..."
While his contract is being worked out Tanny is practicing with Chris Weinke at the IMG Madden Football Academy where Cam Newton and Christian Ponder practiced during last years lockout. At least he's doing something to help himself until all this gets worked out.
This is so true, Tanny isn't expected to start this year so losing a few days or even a week is not going to hurt him.
Ireland showing his ineptitude once again, the more things change the more they stay the same. The most important draft pick of your career as a GM and you can't even get him into camp on time because of dispute over something so meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
