Hey guys any chance Mike Stanton/or any player becomes a lifer Marlin? I have serious doubts.

They have been around just 19 years. Lifers like a Chipper or Jeter aren't exactly common.

I don't think they have any plans to get rid of him soon. He has the most trade value of anyone on the team currently imo, and they have no desire to trade him right now. In the past we traded players to avoid paying them the big contracts. I don't think that's going to be an issue still despite the trading going on right now. I may be naive, but I really think that spending money isn't going to be an issue going forward. They just got too excited this offseason and went overboard. That said, I would like to see this team do more to bolster the offense. I feel like they've been too focused on pitching for awhile now.

Yes it would. Olt is a top shelf spec.

Huge difference between being a top prospect and a top major leaguer. We would be getting ripped off in a JJ-Olt trade, IMO.

Infante has statistical been the better player since the trade and we got prospects on top of that. That was a clear win.

Depends. Generally major league player swaps don't happen. IF JJ is dealt, we need to hope it's to Toronto for Travis D'naud plus, or to Texas for Mike Olt plus.

If JJ is traded for either of those players, I'm fine with it. He's a ticking time bomb.

I would be unhappy with any JJ trade that does not get back a solid MLB player who can immediately play.

This team does not need to be completely detonated.

and Infante signed for below market...and.....................

They traded him. SO they lost that trade ultimately. Unless Jacob Turner pans out.

Incorrect. They didn't pay Uggla 5 years/71 million(!) to be an average player. That's a win in of itself.

"About ML ready" is not the same as an established upper echelon MLB player.

If you mean in the sense that the top players don't get traded, then that means JJ won't get traded, as JJ is a top tier pitcher.

If you mean in the sense that JJ wouldn't fetch a player of equivalent talent, then that means JJ shouldn't get traded.

Either way, a team that isn't rebuilding shouldn't give up its ace pitcher for a third baseman who might be good in a couple of years.

I mean the second one. And that's very shortsighted. By that logic, the Red Sox shouldn't have wanted Mike Stanton for Manny Ramirez however long ago. And "proven upper echelon player" isn't a sure thing. See: Hanley, Jason Bay, Barry Zito, Carl Crawford, John Lackey, etc etc etc.

It wouldn't be just Mike Olt either. Passing on a package of Mike Olt plus because we want to hang on to ticking time bomb JJ, even though we won't be realistically competing for at least this year and next, would be absolutely stupid.

I think it's probably different views of Mike Olt.

Plus, by the time we'll be competing, he'll be 30+ and a free agent.

I'm sure Mike Olt has the potential to be a fine player. I don't think a team that needs to compete sooner rather than later can afford to jettison its ace pitcher to replace the third baseman it just traded.

The Miguel Cabrera trade had everything to do with finance. They couldn't afford him. We got back two top ten prospects. It was the right move to trade him at that moment.

The mistake was not signing him a few seasons earlier.

There is no way you were upset with the return the Marlins got in the Cabrera trade at the time. Maybin and Miller were considered franchise changing players.

And I believe the Dodgers made an offer at the time as well, right? Kemp and Billingsley were involved I believe. **** happens.

What I find funny is all the "Glad I didn't get sucked in this season", or "same old Marlins" crap.

Spare me the dramatics. I didn't like the trade either, but not because we moved Hanley. This is clearly a franchise thats going to be run differently. These trades aren't going to change that.

I think they might have also been upset that Hanley was requesting an extension. I remember reading a transcript of some footage from The Franchise and it was Marlins management exasperated that his agent was trying to ask for an extension early in the year while he was slumping.

Well in that case, they just wanted to try him because they thought it was the best move for the team.

Good. A monster return is exactly what they would need to justify moving JJ.
