Mantle could of stolen a hell of a lot more then that. I remember hearing about Mantle saying if he thought 40/40 club would of been such a big deal, he would of done it every year. Wasnt around to watch him play, but you cant judge speed off SBs.
Baseball’s first Competitive Balance Lottery takes place today, when small-market and low-revenue teams will have the chance to win extra selections in next year’s amateur draft. The ten smallest-market teams and ten lowest-revenue teams will have the chance to win extra selections in 2013, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports. There’s overlap between small-market teams and low-revenue teams, so there are 13 clubs involved in the first-round lottery: the Diamondbacks, Orioles, Indians, Royals, Athletics, Pirates, Padres, Rays, Reds, Rockies, Marlins, Brewers and Cardinals. The first six selections will be made between the first and second rounds of next year’s draft. A second group of six picks will be available to the teams from the first group that didn’t get an early pick, plus the Tigers. The second group of selections will be made after the second round of the draft. MLB teams can trade the draft picks they obtain in the Competitive Balance Lottery. The picks, which can only be traded once, cannot be sold or traded during the offseason. In theory, the draft picks could be involved in some of this summer’s deadline deals. The lottery takes place today at 12:30pm CDT/1:30pm EDT in New York and the winners will be announced 75 minutes later. A team’s chances of winning depend on its winning percentage from the previous season.
May be a case of low revenue too? (Opening a new Stadium does not change the size of the market) I am more surprised the Twins are not listed (or the Nats), and the fact that the STL Cards are listed. The cut off must have been very close for these 10 small market, and 10 low revenue to come up with the 13 this year.
Either is Miami, just because their owner doesn't spend and they did the smart thing by getting a 38K stadium and not a 50K Stadium doesnt mean that market is small... Oakland is small...

I believe the O's are considered a big market team as well. In determining big vs. small markets they generally look at the size and population of the city/fan base. They don't factor in if a team like Baltimore or Washington or both Chicagos/NY teams split markets or not.
And since O's are included but Nats excluded, it must come down to revenue this go round. Again, the cut off must have been close from rev side for some of these.
TB didn't get anything by way of picks, and they don't draw..... BDH is there a good site to go to see attendance? I would be interested to see who draws more the O's or TB...
thanks Nappy... soo they arent going on revenue then....even in 2011, they outdrew them by 4-5K.....it reeks of the NBA type of draft slots with the mystery around it... either team have a cable network.....? This is just a freaking handout, that's all....they say "ahhhh even though TB makes less revenue than most teams, they are better, and dont need the picks" flawed system...
Well its flawed obviously. TB was in it, but only 12 of 14 got picks. TB and STL was not picked. The balls are weighted based on last years record.... My question is, why the f is Detroit, Milwaukee, and ESPECIALLY STL even in this? Those 3 are in the top 11 in attendance in baseball the past 2 years. Completely flawed system. mehhhh......its not finalized thats why he can tweet that - he has trade approval final say. Nothing to see here....its a done deal by FOs. Yes, he has earned his 10/5 rights, but why would Dempster not accept this trade??? Does he think a better situation awaits him? I dont know what will become of this, but not sure what Dempster is thinking if he declines to agree to this. Happy, helps my fantasy squad with T. Hudson, and B.
