There's 9 teams ahead of us. We're 6 games back and we have the third worst run differential in baseball. We're not making playoffs.

All of the guys I mentioned will likely be gone in the offseason anyway. We needed to sell. Not necessarily rebuild but certainty reload.

Last I checked a couple of days ago we were like 4.5 games back of the wild card. Maybe that's changed now, but that's not insurmountable, especially considering that we're coming off a horrible June.

Management is going to have this team push for a playoff spot until game 162.

Horrible June, sure. But we also got very lucky in May.

This team is much closer to the May Marlins than the June Marlins.

I refuse to believe that a team with Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez, Namechange Stanton, Josh Johnson, and Mike Buehrle is a 4th place team in the National League.

Well, Hanley isn't himself. And unlike basketball, you can't really afford to be top heavy with garbage around them because everyone basically gets equal opportunity to affect the game. Unfortunately, we can't just force feed the ball into Lebron, Wade & Bosh down the stretch. Everyone gets equal ABs and IPs.

    Thems the breaks.

Okay, not sure why you felt the need to condescend there, especially since it has nothing to do with my point, but okay.

Shame he couldn't have said it a month ago.

It wasn't my intention to be condescending. That was written in the tone of normal conversation.

But I think it's relevant because your post specifically stated that those 5 players should be the reason we are better than what we've shown. Those five are a good start, but they're just five of sixteen equal parts that need to play well, and those 9 other pieces are just awful right now for whatever reason. The cross sport example is just a tool that helped me get that point across. Sorry D.

The point of my post can be summarized thus: "The Marlins are too talented a team to be where they are right now. Because of this collection of talent, I believe they will improve in the standings." I simply couched that point by listing some of the talent that makes me believe this. You read that as a post that said "Because of these 5 players, this team should be better." My supporting detail is the entire talent pool of the team, not just five players.

I think this team has definitely be underachieving. Playoffs aren't an impossibility but they need to start playing better baseball at a more consistent rate.

Yep, but he can't maintain this level. Hopefully when he comes back down to Earth, the rest of the bats wake up.

He can't but I think he can probably be a Cody Ross and maintain a .800 OPS. That would be sweet.

Unfortunately he won't have anywhere to play once Emilio comes back. Another reason to hate the trade.

Ruggiano could have matched Carlos Lee's .750 OPS while playing significantly better defense in LF than Lee plays 1B. Plus Lomo at 1B >> Lomo in LF. Hell Ruggiano already has more homeruns than Lee despite being here only a month and just getting every day ABs over the last week. Such a stupid trade.

If Ruggiano keeps hitting, he'll play. No way do they sit him out for Bonifacio.

They absolutely sit him. Ozzie and this FO absolutely loves Boni. Don't confuse your sensibilities with theirs.

    Haha.

They love Boni but Ozzie also said if Ruggiano is hitting, he will play. They could sit Morrison if he's struggling. Or I could see them use Boni as a super sub. Either way, I find it hard to believe they'll sit him with the way he's playing. If they do, they deserve the regression in production from Ruggiano to Boni.

I agree with this. Ruggiano has been one of the few bright spots on this team recently and absolutely deserves to be a regular starter with the way he is playing. LoMo is also better suited at first like you said... I love Boni but no way can I justify benching someone as hot as Ruggiano.

Boni as the super sub sounds right. As long as Ruggiano hits, they won't bench him.

Anybody remember what we gave up for Nick Johnson a few years ago? Just curious. The Lee trade reminded me of when we pulled that off a few years back.

Aaron Thompson. Nick Johnson was a ton better than what Lee is now, though.

Nick Johnson should have been a perennial All Star. He just couldn't stay healthy.

Gotta love that Dobbs pinch hit HR. Active leader in pinch hits and pinch hit home runs now... also has 1 more career pinch hit than Tommy Hutton now lol.

Nice job splitting the series. Hopefully we win 2 out of 3 at St. Louis and get some momentum going into the break.
