    Hell, I didn't even know that. I know where I'll be game 6 & 7, Wade willing.

For a team with a brand new stadium and spent a lot of money in the offseason I would consider 78% capacity disappointing though.

Why don't you think the Marlins will be able to draw with the stadium? Is there any negatives about it (besides that thing in the OF, kidding) such as location, parking, etc?

Again I wasn't trying to start anything by my original post, just saw a lot of empty seats at the stadium and was curious to see how the Marlins were drawing. I was kind of surprised by it because like I said usually the first year in a new ballpark teams do big business. I guess we will see in a week or so if attendance will start to go up once the NBA finals are over with. Although on Tuesday night for game 1 of the NBA finals the Marlins actually drew 32.5k fans, about a 4k increase on the average attendance, granted a lot how to do with the Red Sox being in town and there were a lot of Sox fans there this series so that could have been the reason for the spike.

Not really. Miami just isn't a baseball city. The Marlins will always play second fiddle to whatever else is happening in the city.

Game 1 set a TV ratings record, so I'm a bit confused that you're surprised. Playoff basketball is going to take huge priority over a Tuesday night baseball game, Sox or no Sox.

I think you'll see attendance go up, maybe not right away after the Finals, but certainly as the summer progresses and the team begins to make its playoff push.

Surprised because the Marlins are only selling about 78% of the seats they have available. For the most part teams that just open a new stadium do big business in that 1st year. The Marlins really aren't drawing that well and they added a lot of payroll/players to the team and the team isn't bad either. So yeah that's why I'm surprised. I understand the Heat take away from some of the attendance but that can't be the only explanation as to why people aren't going to the new ballpark, it's not like the Heat are playing everyday or just every home game the Marlins have. Like Mainge said maybe Miami just isn't a good baseball city.

It will be interesting to see how the Marlins do attendance wise once basketball is over.

I think attendance will rise if we start winning and make a playoff push.

Ther is no way I'm going to be disappointed with these numbers, though. None of us should.

I think most people know that and that's okay. Baseball can survive and even flourish here, especially during peak runs. We'll just never be a big draw in Miami, especially during this part of the season.

Which is surprising too considering there's a high Cuban population in Miami. But that's fine that Miami isn't a big baseball city, people shouldn't take that as a personal knock, rooting for a team in a huge baseball city sometimes isn't the greatest thing in the world either, you kind of want that happy medium. But hey as long as the fans support the team when they're doing well, that's really all you should ask for.

I couldn't care any less that it's not a big baseball market, to be honest. I root for them, watch all of their games, make my way to the stadium anywhere from 5 to 10 times a year despite it being a 90+ minute drive with traffic. I'd love for more people to like the Marlins like I do but they're not doing so detracts no enjoyment out of it from me. I know you'd feel the same about the Sox if the situations were reversed.

Just returned to the country to find out the Fish have been struggling... here's to hoping they pick it up. I hope to catch a game of the Jays series next weekend.

By the way, how has Heath Bell been pitching lately? Honest question.

Bell has been flat out dominant.

The Marlins, seeing this, have decided to suck,

Oh absolutely. I live almost 3 hours away from Fenway but still try to make it to 2 to 3 games a year. As much as I'm happy with the success they had in the last 10 years, sometimes I wish they were back to being the lovable losers where you could easily get a ticket and Fenway Park wasn't a tourist attraction that it is today.

Just because whatever city the team you root for isn't the best baseball town in the universe or that fans don't always show up shouldn't take your enjoy and love for the team away. In the end as long as they entertain you (for better or worse) thats all that matters, the rest is just BS/nonsense.

finally getting to see the stadium tonight. If anyone is every interested in going, I looked on stubhub and got tickets for $3.50 a pop plus $10 in convenience charges... not bad at all when buying 6 tickets. Granted, it's against the Jays but I'm excited to see the new ballpark. Here's to hoping we can turn around this ship.

Well I just got back from my first game at the new park. Gotta say the stadium is BEAUTIFUL. Really just unbelievable, one of the best venues I've ever been to. Was disappointed at how empty it was though.

Unfortunately the team **** the bed tonight. Oh well.

Certainly did. The new ballpark is amazing. A must see if you live in SoFla. Plus with tickets being ridiculously cheap on Stubhub I plan on going many more times.

Safe to say we won't be a playoff team this season, I think.

Anyone want to play arm chair GM and figure out what moves we should make?

Any chance we can flip Bell for something useful?

Well, he's pitching much better but his overall numbers still look horrible. I think a deal involving Bell would have to wait until the Off Season.

No one is paying Bell the $20m he's owed over the next two years. We're stuck with him unless we pay a lot of the salary.

Given how completely desperate we are for offensive help, that's not completely out of the question, IMO.

Even paying some of his salary, I seriously seriously doubt we get anything significant back.
