It's possible he opts out if he stays healthy and pitches well though. Not sure what other FA closers will be on the market next year but if he opts out and signs a 2 years 10 to 14 million dollar deal (similar to what Bobby Jenks signed) it would be worth it for him. Plus Boras is his agent and you can't ever doubt he could get a deal like that or better.
Possible come backs to this comment: Only because most of the locates are in bed by 5:30pm.... try going to an Olive Garden in FL between 2 and 4 and you'll be in line for 3 hours. or Typical "Rays have no fans comment" so everyone can eat and eat well. (Pats myself on the back while waiting for everyone to fist pump my post)
based on what logic? you know the deal already? Have to say, you picked perhaps the worst time to ***** about a contract signed over a year ago.....
You honestly want me to explain what's going on inside of FinYank's mind? I'd have a better chance of creating a working time machine to stop the sale of Babe Ruth to the Yankees and put out hits on Bucky Dent and Aaron Boone (among other things....).
not *****ing about the contract, well I am....yes actually ha! Cashman didn't even want this to do this signing as I recall....but yeah after Mo, I am on the "spend the least amount of money possible" on a closer ideology like you guys.... I just think the money can be utilized in a better way somewhere else....
Isnt really this, because Theo has struck out on some as well, but if you look at Garza.....I mean it warrants it...a guy who is cost controlled for one more year after this year...at maybe 10-12M....proven AL East pitcher, young still.... I just dont think he is going to come cheap...
Every GM has some good moves and some bad each year, it's just the nature of the business. I think Theo was a good GM, however he did make some bad moves, especially with his big FA signings. And although he did a very good job building up the farm system, he never produced a good non Japanese international FA signing while he was in Boston although the jury is still out on Felix Doubront and Jose Iglesias. His biggest strength was on the trading front, his worst trade was Bronson Arroyo for Wily Mo Pena.
Yes Theo was and is a good GM.....kid is legit.... plus too, he had all that pressure on him from those other goons in that FO......which begs another question.... How much of a say you think he had in some of those FA signings that didnt turn out....the bigger ones...
No clue with specifics but that happens with every team's FO. The GM are sometimes ordered to sign or extend certain players. Like Soriano with the Yankees. In Arizona, the owner loved Eric Byrnes and told their GM to sign him to an extension. In Baltimore the owner was very hands on with who they traded for, signed, drafted etc. As for Boston, I always thought the John Lackey signing was more of an ownership request than a Theo Epstein move but I really don't have any real evidence to back that up. But it went against everything Theo had talked about in the past. Of course the whole Beckett/Hanley trade has been debated as to whether or not Theo would have made that move if he were the GM at the time. That trade was mostly a LL one and it worked out.
With 30TH pick in round 1 - NYY select two-way star Ty Hensley - http://www.maxpreps.com/news/x3rAiw...-draft-stock-for-edmond-santa-fe-baseball.htm Pos: RHP, INF Ht/Wt: 6'5"/220
Was MLB Draft Tracker's #26 overall prospect Ty Hensley Rank: 26 Santa Fe HS (Okla.), Senior Height: 6'5", Weight: 220 Position: RHP DOB: 07/30/1993 Bats: S, Throws: R Commitment: Mississippi It's unlikely Oklahoma will see a bounty like it did in 2011, when local prepsters Dylan Bundy and Archie Bradley went in the top 10 of the Draft. It will be up to Hensley to represent the Sooner state and he should do just fine. Hensley has a fastball that's a tick above average, sitting 91-92 mph, and he can reach back for more, hitting 94 mph when he needs to. He has a hard curve with good downer rotation when he throws it right, though sometimes he drops his arm angle and it becomes a bit slurvy. His changeup is below-average right now, but he hasn't used it much and with more experience, it should be a usable pitch in the future. He generally throws strikes and is very confident on the mound. Some of Hensley's issues stem from mechanics that can be cleaned up with time and experience. Strong and durable, Hensley may not have the ceiling of his Oklahoma predecessors, but he profiles as a very good starting pitcher at the next level.
Yeah MLBN said yesterday the guy was 10-0 this year, sub 2...and batted .450+ hahahahhahaha...... Plus fastball, wicked curve.....needs to develop mechanics more and get another pitch (not me talking, the scouts)
Seems like they would have a good shot at signing the catcher I would think, he went back last year....so maybe he is ready for pro-ball....
They will sign him. He's graduating college this year so what's the alternative for him? Going to Indy ball for a year with hopes he puts up big numbers and gets drafted higher next year as a 23 year old?
Yankees catcher prospect Gary Sanchez has been an RBI machine over the last 10 games for Class A Charleston. Sanchez has produced 21 RBI in his last 10 games to go along with three doubles, five homers, 10 runs and a .295 average (13 for 44) in that span. Sanchez is having a great run with Charleston this season, showing why he is one of the top catcher prospects in the minors. Sanchez is batting .302 with a .508 slugging percentage, .858 OPS, eight homers, 17 doubles, 10 stolen bases and 41 RBI in 49 games. You want to know why New York was comfortably trading Jesus Montero and your answer is Sanchez (as well as the young arms they received - when healthy), who is projected to be a plus hitter for both average and power. Sanchez is only 19 years old and still developing as a prospect.
Love the catching depth w/ O'Brien & Breen (treat that position as the backup QB in NFL - draft and trade excess all day long - who ever signs use them and ship them for other needs as necessary)...I know Fin listed several of the picks from yesterday... Here's a rundown of all the Yankees' Day 2 selections: • Round 2, Austin Aune, CF, Argyle H.S. (Texas): The athletic Aune played shortstop for most of his life, but the Yankees took him for his ability in center field, where he played during his junior year at Argyle. The 6-foot-2 left-handed hitter drove in 41 runs while hitting eight homers with a .447 average in 28 games as a senior. • Round 2, Peter O'Brien, C, Miami (Fla.): The Rockies took the offensive catcher in the third round last year, when he was at Bethune-Cookman. The 6-foot-5 backstop transferred to Miami for his senior season and hit .340 with 12 doubles, 10 home runs and 40 RBIs in 41 games. • Round 3, Nathan Mikolas, OF, Bradford H.S. (Wis.): Position is the issue for this left-handed hitter from Kenosha, Wis., but at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, the Louisville signee is considered one of the best high school bats in the Draft. • Round 4, Corey Black, RHP, Faulkner: The 5-foot-11 pitcher began his career at San Diego State University but underwent Tommy John surgery and transferred to Faulkner, where he went 11-2 with a 1.53 ERA in 88 innings. He projects as a reliever with a 94- to 96-mph fastball. • Round 5, Robert Refsnyder, 2B, Arizona: The right-handed hitter played outfield at Arizona, but with a lack of the power expected of a corner outfielder at the big league level, he projects as a second baseman. He played the infield in high school and hit .353 with 61 RBIs and 12 stolen bases while starting all 60 games this season. • Round 6, Nicholas Goody, RHP, Louisiana State: The Yankees must like Goody, because they selected him for the second time in as many years. He did not sign out of the State College of Florida after New York took him in the 22nd round last season but transferred to LSU instead. He appeared in 33 games with 11 saves as the Tigers' closer, striking out 45, walking three and posting a 2.51 ERA in 32 1/3 innings. • Round 7, Taylor Garrison, RHP, Fresno State: Garrison also saw his Draft stock improve after he did not sign with the Dodgers as a 27th-round pick last season. The career reliever returned for his senior year and saved 11 games in 28 appearances, throwing 42 1/3 innings, striking out 52 and posting a 2.98 ERA. • Round 8, Taylor Dugas, CF, Alabama: The left-handed hitter did not sign when the Cubs drafted him in the same round last year, but he returned to Alabama to set the school's all-time hits record at 332. He started all 55 games as a senior, hitting .343 with 12 doubles, seven triples, two homers and eight stolen bases. • Round 9, Derek Varnadore, RHP, Auburn: Varnadore was only 4-7 with a 4.93 ERA for Auburn, walking 30 and striking out 63 in 87 2/3 innings, but at 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, the right-hander projects with some upside. • Round 10, Matt Snyder, 1B, Ole Miss: The 6-foot-6 slugger has Major League bloodlines. His father, Brian, played 12 years professionally and two in the big leagues, and his brother, Brandon, plays for the Rangers. Snyder hit .363 with seven home runs and 39 RBIs in 36 games as a senior. • Round 11, Caleb Frare, LHP, Custer County H.S. (Mont.): The hard-throwing left-hander signed to play at Utah. • Round 12, Christopher Breen, C, Winter Springs H.S. (Fla.): The 6-foot-3 Breen is another offensive catcher the Yankees want to add to their collection in the Minor Leagues, although he is signed to play at Seminole State College. • Round 13, James Pazos, LHP, San Diego: The D-backs took Pazos in the 40th round out of high school, but he went to college and posted a 2.14 ERA with 63 strikeouts in 63 innings this season as a reliever. • Round 14, Andrew Benak, RHP, Rice: The 6-foot-5 right-hander started 14 games and appeared in two more after spending his first three years mostly out of the bullpen. He posted a 7-2 record with a 2.70 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings. • Round 15, Dayton Dawe, RHP, A.B. Lucas H.S. (Canada): The 6-foot-3 Canadian throws a 93-mph fastball and has received tutelage from former Yankees reliever Paul Quantrill, who is the pitching coach for Dawe's Ontario Terriers squad.
Austin Aune moved into his Texas Christian University dorm on Sunday, ready to start summer classes and begin working out as quarterback for the Horned Frogs. Only a few hours after the Yankees selected him 89th overall in the First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday, Aune packed up, moved out and drove home. The Argyle High School (Texas) outfielder decided he would sign with the Yankees. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news...05&content_id=32818196&vkey=news_nyy&c_id=nyy
Ty Hensley's eyes teared up when the Yankees called his name in the first round of the First-Year Player Draft on Monday, and the high school hurler can't wait to try the pinstripes on for size. Hensley, 18, said that he intends to sign with the Yankees quickly and forgo a college commitment to Mississippi so he can begin his professional career, hoping that he can make it to the Major Leagues within three years. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news...05&content_id=32810482&vkey=news_nyy&c_id=nyy
Speaking of Long as Hitting Coach - again actually thrilled with some of the things he has accomplished - namely turning Curtis Granderson into a great hitter vs Lefty's and thus increasing the value in that trade. Basically he took an unproven bat and increased his production and ability. That said, this article made me chuckle when it comes to other already proven MLB hitters:
wow BDH, this would be great...imagine actually having high picks sign on.... The good thing about the new CBA and the draft restrictions is that it is basically set up like the rookie pay scale in the NFL...there is only a certain amount of dollars that can be allocated so it is a "take it or dont" type of feel to it.....it limits the haggling so to speak...
Yankees closer and future hall of famer Mariano Rivera has a date set for his knee surgery: Tuesday, June 12, tweets MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. Rivera said he can't think about pitching again this season, but added that "miracles happen."
The pitching looks like it is coming around, some solid starts by the boys...Hughes' 4 out of his last 6 start have been pretty good... Tampa without Longoria is a pretty light hitting ballclub though IMO.....
^yup.... Yankees reliever David Aardsma, on the 60-day disabled list, threw 40 pitches during his third batting practice session Friday and might be ready to pitch in a simulated game late next week. and... Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain, on the 60-day disabled list, threw off a mound Friday for the first time since hurting his ankle in March. Chamberlain made 25 throws in a batting cage at the Yankees’ minor league complex. He had been throwing off a half-height mound to help regain his form. ”It felt good,” Chamberlain said. ”Another step forward. That’s all you can do.”
Thank you Seattle! The yanks are not the only team to be no-hit by 6 different pitchers... Seattle no hit the dodgers... Funny enough they both happened in inter league play... Astros still were more impressive since Oswalt got hurt I the 1st. 1 thing I remember about that game was Wagner throwing 100mph closing the game Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hell of a catch by Swisher last night and then equally as impressive play by Cano in the same inning....won the game right there for the Yanks.... The pitching is settling in, now it is time for the ace to come big tonight... Also I have seen some 1st rounders signing the past few days, even the number 1 and 2....come on Ty....John Hancock that sh$t....
McCann and Freeman (and Bourn) are on my Fantasy Team.........and Soriano who didnt get save cause of blister!!! AggH!
