My guess is 170 million. There's a hell of a lot of hype for this movie. But I don't think it will beat The Avengers, which I think surprised everyone with that opening.
One thing that helps The Avengers is that it is more family friendly. If I had an eight year old, I would take him to The Avengers, I probably wouldn't take him to the new Batman movie.
Another thing that will hurt TDKR when comparing it to The Avengers' opening is that TDKR won't be in 3D.
Good. 3D has no place in a film like Batman. Hell I didn't even see the Avengers in 3D and still loved it.
A bunch of magazine articles/cast interviews were released over the weekend. Not much in terms of actual news but Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan both said that people are going to love the ending of TDKRs and Bale also said Batman Begins was about "fear", TDK was about "chaos" and TDKR is about "pain".
I saw the Avengers in 3D and barely noticed the 3D. and I got to pay an extra 3 pounds for seeing it in 3D. movies in London are a friggin ripoff.
Avengers in 3d was terrible imo. A lot better in 2D. To be honest, the best part about the 3D was the end credit scene. I hate 3d,
TDKR TV spots are starting to pop up. They look pretty awesome with new footage. Here are two that were released tonight:
The 3D conversion wasn't great. I'm not interested in 3D as a rule, but shooting films natively in 3D--like Spider-Man and Prometheus--might yield better results than 3D conversions like The Avengers.
With the hype of the previous film it should easily make over $300 million. Heck, even though Spider-man 3 was a bad movie, it made over 330 million.
Hard to say really depends on how great the movie is, although I think it has a real chance of topping Harry Potters opening day record.
It has a chance, I doubt it. Opening weekend is more about hype and marketing than it is by how good the movie is. Well that is my opinion at least.
I think it has a shot at beating Harry Potter but I'd be pretty surprised if it beat The Avengers. Like others have stated in this thread The Avengers is more family friendly and was in 3D. I think anything above 150 million would make WB happy. It will make a billion dollars world wide though when all is said and done.
Some small news tibits: Christopher Nolan, in an interview with Empire Magazine, stated that The Joker would not appear or be mentioned in TDKR out of respect for Heath Ledger. This isn't really "news" as it was obvious the character wouldn't have been recast and they weren't about to use unused footage of him from TDK in TDKR. Also David Goyer, who helped co-write all 3 films, stated that the end of TDKR had been talked about since him and the Nolan brothers first started writing Batman Begins and that the ending in TDKR is exactly the same from what they came up with in 2004ish. He also said it will leave the audiance with a "lump in their throat" and is the perfect way to close out the Nolan trilogy. The one thing I'd love to know and I doubt we'd ever get a straight answer is what was Nolan's original plans for the 3rd film if Heath didn't pass away. He signed a 2 film deal and since his performance was so great in TDK, surely he would have been brought back to be in the 3rd even if it was only a small cameo. You have to figure Nolan had a rough outline of the trilogy or where he wanted to take it so I wonder how it changed, if it did at all. Who knows maybe this was Nolan's plan all along.
Spoiler Batman Beyond? hmm maybe Joe Lo becomes future Batman? I will say I loved Batman Beyond as a kid!
I don't think that has anything to do with anything in the movie. They are forever coming up with weird Batman toys that are sold as movie merch but weren't in the movie.
Agreed. It actually looks like an unfinished toy. I'd be pretty surprised if that's the route Nolan goes in as far as a Batman Beyond costume.
of course you do. However: - Remember that time Batman wore a gold suit and had a chainsaw? What you don't? But...link - Or The that time he wore a suit with safety color orange bat logo and belt while using...what are they called....oh that's right Elasto-Cuffs....link - My favorite part of the Nolan Batman's was when Batman wore bright blue shoulder pads and giant gloves that shot yellow "bat rays?". That was awesome. Fusion Force Batman will always be the best Nolan Batman....link Sigh.
Makes too much sense with what they appear to be doing w/Batman being older and JGL having this new role. That and Spoiler Bale telling people he'd like to come back to do another one in somewhat of a cameo as an old Wayne Wouldn't knock it bc it's a toy either considering that was how the news of that fruitcake Loki's army being in The Avengers broke as well.
Where did Bale say that? The only thing Bale has ever said about playing Batman/Bruce Wayne again was that he would keep doing Batman films as long as Chris Nolan did but since this is Nolan's last film he's officially done playing the character. I just wouldn't get your hopes up slickj. It's definitely an interesting find but like FinD pointed out you can't go strictly by toys being made. I still say it's a crappy looking Batman toy, and hope that's not the direction it goes in.
- http://www.comicbookmovie.com I'm not going strictly on a toy but when you add everything up it does look like they're going to try to pass the torch in some way. I think just going straight in to Batman Beyond would be kind of gay but we'll see.
That is the one thing that is constantly on my mind regarding TDKR. What if Heath Ledger were alive? What would happen in the third film? How f*cking awesome would it be?
The question was framed if he'd come back to play the character in the style of Frank Miller's Dark Night Returns. That has nothing to do with your link and nothing to do with Batman Beyond. In fact, DKR and Batman Beyond exist in separate universes. Actually a case could made that that both of those stories exist in separate universes than the movie because both of their stories involve Robin playing important parts.
