Thats what I like about Ozzie. He isn't afraid to be quick with the hook to the bullpen/removing a bullpen pitcher, and he apparently isnt afraid with these moves either.

Why are we giving credit to the person who isn't the general manager?

True. Though my post was more towards his managerial style.

I think this team will be fine. We are pretty deep, IMO, and can hopefully weather missing some key parts for a period of time.

We're not very deep at all. We can weather Gaby being out because he sucks. Boni too because he's ehh.

Anyone else though and we're in trouble.

Boni gets on base in a low scoring offense. I don't think we can weather his absence for too long.

Petey and Kearns need to not suck while Boni is out. Same with Dobbs.

Since after the first two weeks he has an OBP of .307. He's not getting on base. We're fine without him.

I'm speaking more in a general sense, but you and I already disagree on Boni anyway.

Let me put it another way: I don't think the offense is better without him.

No, we're probably not better without him but, really, Petersen is a slower Boni with a little more pop. The production will be similar. If I had my way, I'd probably start Petersen and use Boni as the super-sub. Any time one of Reyes, Infante, Hanley or Petey need a day off, I'd stick him out there. I'd even sub him in at a COF spot, depending on the matchup. He'd play almost as much as he does now, just every where.

What are your thoughts on Boni?

I think he's dangerous because of his speed. Those two triples he hit against the Mets are a perfect example; they became triples because of his speed, not necessarily because he hit the ball perfectly.

I liken him to the Reggie Bush of the Marlins. Not great at anything, good to very good at a lot of things, but he still finds ways to hurt the other team.

I think we have a similar enough view on him really. He's come a long way from a few years ago.

I just think he'd be more valuable playing every where, as opposed to just one position. Not unlike the what the Gators and Vikings do with Percy Harvin. He could play RB or WR full time and be effective, but he can do more, so let him.

That's fine with me. But he needs to be in the lineup to do it. Which is why I think him being on the DL is bad overall, even if his production can be temporarily replaced.

I'm not disagreeing at all. I'd much rather have Boni than not have him.

I was just saying that if you gave me the choice last week to pick two starters to lose for a few weeks, I'd pick Gaby and Boni.

I think I'd rather lose LoMo than Boni. But Boni would be the third starter I'd swap out.

Bonifacio being undervalued here IMO. I wouldn't want to lose him for any extended period of time. He has the third highest average on the team, has been drawing walks, and every time he steals a base he is eliminating the need to be moved up. He basically turns a walk into a double.

Fact. Opposing pitchers begin looking to pick him off as soon as he gets to the batter's circle. True story.Fact. Joey Espada will often admits not being able to spot him for the Stop signal at times; only upon Bonifacio's arrival at home plate does he see him.

    Nah. Couple things here:

    1) Please don't ever use batting average as a meaningful stat by itself. I'll drive me crazy.

    2) His average was powered by a crazy high unsustainable BABIP which has come down to a less crazy number now. He's batting .246 over the last 34 games. His strikeout numbers really aren't conducive to a high average so that's not going to rise significantly. He's definitely a nice player to have around but I'm not undervaluing him at all. I'm not saying I want to lose him, but yeah, I'd absolutely rather lose him than everyone else other than Gaby.

As a tool by itself no AVG is not a good indicator, but when everyone else on your team for whatever reason isn't hitting as well/lucky as you are, it means you are valuable. His OBP isn't horrible either. At .351 he's getting on base 1-3 and with his speed that plays a huge role in the game.

If I had to lose a guy long term off the roster sure maybe he would be one of the first, but for the time being he is huge for this ballclub. Just my 2 cents.

As I stated earlier, his OBP is .307 since after the first two weeks. His OBP is being powered by a pretty high BABIP. He's just a limited player.

A limited player who has been a key cog so far. That is my point. Not that he is a world beater, but that he has been important to our success so far.

We are on the same page then

I agree in a perfect world he's a utility player you spot anywhere to give guys a rest without losing too much production. A pinch runner, a pinch hitter to start a rally, so on.

I like Mainge's idea of him being a Super utility player. I like Boni but when you strike out as much as he does while hitting for now power I don't think you are that valuable. His OBP is nice but like Mainge said, doesn't seem sustainable and hasn't been since the middle of April.

I would think during the Off season we should be looking for a replacement but I dont think Beinfest would agree.
