As of right now the only coach listed in regards to quarterbacks is Zack Taylor, assistant. Who is THE quaterbacks coach for real ?
Wonderful. Thanks. Because in my opinon, with Zack Taylor, we do not have an assistant either. Nice, draft a QB with the first pick and we have ??????????? to show him the ropes, Nice.
I thought they were going to use old videos of Steve Young shown through a mirror to train Tannehill? Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.
What better situation than having your college head coach running the offense? Don't over-rate the notion of a QB coach. Sherman has probably discussed the ropes long before now. Lee was one of the worst qb coaches out there. He was a member of Houston Nutt's staff, which had a reputation of not knowing how to develop a qb. He ran Ole Miss's offense last year and you can look at how they performed online and know the kind of job he did. He is not leading it anymore.
Our own head coach gave great credence to the QB coach at Green Bay being instrumental in contributing to A. Rogers. I think the QB coach is a vital position. I'll give you another instance. When Don Strock was with Miami in the Marino years, he was just like a coach and mentor to Marino and when Strock left, Marino's production went down immediately. I would say, Don't underestimate the value of a quality QB coach. I'm not a big fan of the OC/QB coach combo. I'd prefer two guys there. In a sense we have that with the asst. QB coach and I suppose that's who we had to go with (coaches weren't knocking down Miami's door).
Sherman is the OC and QB coach, Zac Taylor is the asst. QB coach...It's a good setup for Tanny and allows Taylor to grow and hone his craft as well...
It also looks like Zac Taylor may well be Tannehill's own personal coach, while Sherman does the QB/OC thing for whomever is starting. That way if Tannehill is given time to develop before starting he still gets 1:1 attention that he wouldn't normally be getting, a traditional QB coach would probably have to spend considerable time with the starter. As for Taylor being inexperienced, he is going to get coached himself by Sherman and Philbin and will be working with Tannehill as per their instructions. I quite like the setup actually, it seems very suited to developing a young QB. That Sherman's duties might dilute his time to actually coach QBs isn't so much of an issue for Moore and Garrard as neither is the long term starter, they need help preparing during the season for the next opponent if they are starting but thats about it. Sherman will obviously have plenty of time to coach QBs during camp. If you are looking for a negative it's easy to jump to that conclusion, but examining things a bit more closely tends to reveal a more balanced picture. The idea that Philbin, mr. Encyclopaedia of preparation, would somehow overlook or not be taking QB coaching seriously isn't really very likely to be true now, is it? I can't quite imagine the first meeting of camp, where Philbin introduces the staff, gets to QB coach and has to go "aw shucks, I knew I forgot something!" as being a plausible scenario.
