Love to pick up: Chris Givens Marvin McNutt Marvin Jones Nick Toon Devon Wylie Cam Johnson Malik Jackson James-Michael Johnson Tank Carder Nigel Bradham Markelle Martin Antonio Allen George Iloka Janzen Jackson
We are trying to come up with reasons in the draft chat room in Club Level. I think we've settled on doing lines of cocaine off a hookers stomach on youtube.
I am perplexed by it as well... I have been stating so throughout this entire thread, once today's draft started up.
We got a solid receiving threat in Egnew. I don't see any amazing WRs we passed on for Vernon and Martin was a necessity, imo.
Yeaaaa, lot of big expectations on this board. I think the front office did a very good job addressing needs so far without reaching on anyone (with the exception being tannehill, a pick everyone said we had to make)
I've been saying it since everyone lost their damn minds when we dumped ole' Marshall Sixteedees...WR is the least important of our big holes on the roster. Based on our new offense and other needs WR is at the bottom. It just is. Spots we needed more than a WR, were QB, RT, DE & TE...what did we get? We'll probably take a WR tomorrow sometime, but Philbin doesn't need a traditional #1 receiver in his offense. Barring huge setbacks, look for us to target WR, S & LBs next draft.
Like addressing WR makes us fill all our needs. What about safety, guard, corner, rb, we have holes a plenty. Lets just patch the gaping ones though. We have so many tweener D-lineman/LBs...I'd have loved to see us get aggressive and take Sanu at that first 3rd rd pick. And we would still have a questionable wr corp lining up in Sept. All in all, it's a good draft for us thus far tho. But you have to think with 4 picks in the first 3 rounds, WR was a priority. Sent from my iPad
Yes, this offense does not HAVE to have a bonefied #1 Wr but it needs a playmaker at wideout. Well, it needs 4 of them. Miami has two right now that MIGHT be considered decent. Not addressing the Wr position this year has nothing to do with not needing that go to guy. It had everything to do with them liking Martin more than any Wr that was on the board in the 2nd. Once the 3rd round started all the better Wr's left on the board were basically the same. Good prospects with potential. So there was no need to be desperate and take one. Although, taking Vernon was something I think they could have done in the 4th....
I don't think so. Down here in Miami there are these announcement commercials saying "One of the largest retailers is going bankrupt. All assets must be liquidated." Then listed bunch of items with prices. Then they provide an address for a place where they are selling these items for dirt cheap.
Oh...gotcha. They do this in Omaha and they almost never have the items they advertise. I brought up Best Buy because I have received several emails talking about store closets in town.
If you think RB is a hole on this team and one important enough to be squeezed into this draft, then I'm pretty sure you don't understand what a hole is in regards to a football team.
At this point, I wouldn't consider RB a hole. But definitely a position that could be picked in the mid rounds if someone fell for value, IE, Lamar Miller, or later in the draft for depth.
RB is a hole that we can't get to today. But make no mistake, we have big short yardage issues. Sent from my iPhone
call me a UCLA homer, but I wouldn't mind signing Derrick Coleman as an UDFA. He was a little workhouse out here in LA while the rest of the team struggled. Kid is thick, 5'11" and 230 lbs, but ran a 4.52 40 I believe. He's got some power behind him and I wouldn't mind trying him out as a goal line option if Thomas isn't up to it.
I disagree that we can't get to the position. With a RB like Miller dropping, I would be fine and even a little happy to get him in the 4th.
What I like that Ireland said was he stayed true to his board. That he married his board to the overall needs. Philbin uses his TE so Egnew was a pick based on board vs need. I love teh Martin pick. Love it. maybe sliding Murtha to RG then our line is very formadible with Long, Incognito, Pouncey, Murtha and Martin. Chris Givens, Sanu Wylie, marvin Jones, Junior Criner, Nick Toon are all there and there hasnt been any Runs on wr yet. There are some very good wrs left. If we end up with 2 of them, I will be very happy, oh throw in Ronnell Lewis and I will be over the top
I'm starting to wonder if his shoulder is still f'd up. He shouldn't have dropped this far otherwise.
There is still some value there at WR, and given where we pick, we can get one in the 4th. I think we need to look there, then add some depth at corner, LB and another WR. We have 5 picks, so we can get something from that - or at least we should do.
Short yardage issues are typically a function of the OL, not the RB (at least IMO). The RB can be an issue, but 9 times out of 10 it's the OL.
San Fran is going to have to let one of their running backs go once roster cuts roll around, all of them are pretty good, might be able to pick one of them up.
In my opinion at the first level it is 90% the offensive line and 10% the back. It's really only at the second level of the defense where the back becomes a larger factor than the line.
I think the Rams nab Massie here at the top of 4th....making their draft one of the best Ive seen in some time.
