Omar had a great game tonight. Was happy to see Giancarlo get a couple of hits and rbi's as well.

I'm interested to see Zambrano. Could very well end up being the best 4th starter in Baseball. Then again could also end up being not much.

Ouch not looking good for big Z so far. Hoping it is just nerves and he can settle down. The guy is only 30, he has time to get it back....hopefully he can. If not then hey the bottom of the rotation usually isn't a team strength.

Silver lining of the inning is that Zambrano actually made some really good pitches the last few batters even though they scored three runs it should have been two. Botched double play turned an inning ending grounder into a fielders choice with a run scoring on the the next play. Then some nasty pitches to get the K and end the inning. Hopefully he can settle down.

Soooo… how are the Marlins looking? I haven't been able to watch a game yet. I've been working nonstop this entire week. I'm even at work right now.

Josh Johnson struggled, admitted afterwards that he was nervous and way overhyped for the game.

Mark Buehrle pitched a nice game but the offense let him down.

Nolasco pitched a gem and got the win going 8 innings, bats finally come alive and score 8 runs.

Zambrano walked a couple in the first and allowed three runs but has looked NASTY since then with three k's and no walks.

Middle defense has looked stellar for the most part and Infante is having a nice little hitting streak the last two games. Reyes hitting the ball hard but not having much luck. Bonifacio is much more selective at the plate than in past years. Stanton is Stanton.

Well, at least we aren't 0-3 like the Braves. It would be nice to be 3-0 like the Mets, though!

I know this team will hit. Not worried. I'm REALLY encouraged by what Zambrano did today. After that horrible first he looked like a top of the rotation pitcher for a good stretch.

To be fair in spring he WAS hitting 92. By all accounts that is where his velocity should be as the season goes on. He was obviously overthrowing early and it actually took velocity off. Started around 86-87 but as the game went he started hitting 88-89 and mixing in some nice off speed stuff.

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets back into the low 90's on a consistent basis

As soon as I made my post about the steady string of terrible AB's, they turn it around and start having good AB's on top of good AB's.

Obviously 1-3 is not a desired start to the season, but I've seen some things so far that bode well long term.

His velocity has been on a steady decline every year though and hasn't averaged 92 mph in well over 5 years. With his age and the miles on his arm thinking he can consistently hit 92 mph is extremely wishful thinking. Just looking at his Fangraphs page, I'd say he'll most likely average around 89 mph give or not 1 mph either way. But would be extremely surprised and shocked if he average or came anywhere near or above 91 mph.

That's not to say he won't be a successful pitcher this year but the bet was only about velocity.

If you actually read the whole quote, and the context at which it appeared in the article, it's clear that Ozzie was joking about Castro's longevity despite people hating him and trying to kill him. Nowehere in the article does he suggest that castro is a good guy, etc.

But it was a stupid remark nonetheless given that he works in the one market where a quote like that actually would matter to people.

I'll be patient. He's not coming close to averaging 92. though.

I'd say 90 will be his max average. He did hit 92 a few times, but he's not going to come close to averaging that.

When I saw he was apologize for the quote, I found it odd. I remember Ozzie stating that his one major rule was that players had to be up and ready for the national anthem. How paying homage to this country was important etc.

I can understand why some cubans might have taken offense, particularly if they didn't read the whole quote.

But certainly it was a dumb thing to say. You've got to "know your audience" so to speak, and he clearly didn't follow that rule here.

He'll apologize and I imagine the matter will be put to bed rather quickly. In the pantheon of dumb things said by athletes/coaches, this is pretty mild at the end of the day

Stanton is day to day with knee pain.
