I'm not sure that's fair. Maybe he thinks there's a different way to support JS. Something I'm not sure if everyone has considered: What happens if/when another member of this board gets seriously ill? Really wouldn't be able to support that person the same way since it's mutually exclusive. Maybe to support someone ill a stickied thread to make donations towards fighting the illness the member is suffering from? Maybe a "ring of honor" to memorialize members who pass on?
I voted no. I love brother JS, don't get me wrong. He's a quality guy in our forum, but I think the fist pumps should be changed to "Alllriiight Miiiami" in honor of the Mad Dog. An honorable player but more importantly a radio host and game announcer many of you grew up listening to Dolphins games with and because of... So, no disrespect to our friend JetsSuck, but that was my vote and my reasoning...
You must have no sense of humor. Todd makes many many funny jokes. He sure gets me laughing to beat the band sometimes.
I still like pop the champagne for the 72 team but I'd vote for this over it. Or combine them. Pop The Champagne JS
IMO, then Larry, you could have made the suggestion prior to this in the same manner. Your suggestion is a great one too IMO. Loved the Mad Dog, like I know you did. I just took the poll at face value. 2 options. Support a forum member who is very ill, or leave it the way it is. I never liked the fist pump thing anyway, from the first time it was implemented. What better reason to get rid of it, than to support a cool guy like JS? I'd never put you on ignore and you hadn't voted when I made that comment. Not that you need my approval at all anyway, but I find your posts by and large to be very thoughtful and well written.
Wow, this thread went viral overnight. Wake up this morning and three pages worth of posts...but still the Tony Sparano inspired "Fist Pumps" Listen, my intent behind this wasn't the "memorialize" Jetssuck. If you read my post to him in the Lounge, I didn't say goodbye because he's not gone. My intent was to change the Fist Pumps which suddenly appeared overnight to something to show support for JS. He said in the Lounge that was probably his last post, and maybe it is...but imagine if you will for a moment, he does log back on and he sees instead of Fist Pumps, he sees JS Bumps...What do you think that would do for HIS spirits? I think that would put a smile on his face ear to ear. Anyone who's lost a loved one to cancer knows the excrutiating battle they've endured. I just wanted to demonstrate everyone's love and support for JS while he's still here with us, not to be a premature memorial to the man. And God forbid, should he lose this battle and make his way to the Big Stadium in the Sky, everytime one of us approves of another person's post, we'll always be reminded of him when we click "JS Bumps". The upsides to this far outweigh the downside 100-1.
I dont get the js bumps so I didn't vote. I think the fist pumps need to go for sure though. I would rather see something for posts that we dont like.
That would have been me. For reasons along these lines: You certainly won't hurt my feelings if you opt to block me though.
Bad idea man....that would divide the forum a lot. The point is to reward people for well thought posts not inspire them to make average ones or fear making bad ones. Thats pretty F'ing demoralizing.
haha and it has a little tally marker on the side that keeps track of all the things you said that people didn't like, along with you losing rep power. yeah bad idea...
So two threads hundreds of views 60+ votes in this poll...three in the other thread that got moved to the obituaries page. Is it time to retire the fist pump? For whatever else?
I really can't express my disappointment with the staff at thephins. Someone on that staff overnight thought it would be a good funny idea to change the simple "Thanks" to "Fist Pumps", and at the time it was. But now here we are, the actual users of this site, the ones who make this site what it is have made a very simple request, overwhelmingly requesting the Fist Pumps go away and changed to show solidarity for one of our fellow posters who is dying of cancer...and yet, the Fist Pumps still remain. Are you not hearing us or do you simply not care about one of your faithful users of this site who is dying?
To suggest they don't care about the member who is dying is completely uncalled for. They have already demonstrated that they care. I'm sure they have a very good reason for not instituting "JS Bumps." Only a guess on my part, but I'm guessing it's because the method you feel should be used to honor JS is mutually exclusive. This is a forum with thousands of registered members. As sad as it is, others will become sick and others will die. I'm sure when members do pass on the staff here will figure out a great way to honor them. In the meantime if members want to support JS and others suffering from a horrible disease, how about a donation to a cancer charity? That will mean more than any arbitrary bumps or pumps.
I have mixed feelings.. JS needs our support and our prayers... and yet, I have to wonder what will be the next good cause that will come up which will create the urge in some of us to change the JSPump into something else, for someone else, or for another good cause. It may well be that doing this would open a can of worms for the mods which could cause some people on the board to be very pleased if their cause was supported, and others to be very hurt. What I, and a number of others have done, it to change our avatar to JS's avatar... On another level... the FistPump was Dolphins Team related. Changing the FistPump to solely support one fan is another thing altogether. My gut tells me that it is wonderful to support JetsSuck but my head tells me this is not a good precedent to start. It can be more divisive than one could imagine.
I never liked it. Never wanted it. IMO it is STUPID. The sooner they get rid of the fist pump the better.
I get that the fist pumps are your thing. You've expressed your disapproval within 24 hours of any idea not being executed. You were upset that nothing had changed well before this idea was nominated. So to me this is more about change than JS. You will just need to be patient. The fist pump always had an EOL. And being ill didn't help me stay abreast. It's not rocket surgery, but it's not like flipping a switch either. So I'd prefer to implement one well thought-out format and be done with it. Thanks
One of those posts that you look back on an hour later and say "That isn't what I meant, what was I saying"...sorry...I've made this suggestion before on another thread started after TS was canned...I wasn't trying to be disingenuous but it turned out that way... JS, for those of us that have been around has meant a lot to many of us on this forum...even going back to the 'other place'... I can get behind JS Pumps and would like to see the 'fist pump' changed anyway...it has no meaning any longer to us...
My wife regularly arranges for me to have a case of foot in mouth disease - AFTER she has had time to think not only about what I said, but what SHE is going to say in return. Breathes there a man who has not bled for some little thing he should not have said; from tiny thoughts flitting through his head, leaving him now with words best unsaid. Nay! Nay! I say, and will say it again! There's something amiss about us being men who let loose the thoughts direct form our lips, and wind up in kimshi, right up to our hips!
Well I think the frustration was that no-one could even get a staff response even though the whole board agrees the fist pump has to go.
And as a staff we have talked about it, people just need to understand we are not here 24 hours a day, we all have life's, family's and jobs also. Well expect for Boik, he is here all the time!
no ones saying it had to be done yesterday. Just that a simple "this is being taken under consideration." Would have been nice.
Hey guys, my last post...not making any excuses or anything, but I was at a pretty crappy spot, wasn't sleeping worth a damn, wasn't eating worth a damn, everything that could go wrong with that training mission went wrong and I vented frustration in an inappropriate manner, so with that being said... I apologize to one and all, for doing what I did and saying what I said. In no way shape or form do I think the staff here at thephins do not care about JS or his current plight and even though that was not the intent of my post, I completely see and understand how it could have been taken that way. Sorry about that guys.
To be clear I wasn't trying to criticize. Just making the point that is why people were antsy. Obviously we didn't know he was ill or it would have been a different ballgame.
Listen just cause I'm young enough to know how to work these things called smartphones don't be hatin gramps! Go back to your Atari and old school rotary dial phone
