Complaining about Willie Randolph mismanaging a bullpen is like complaining about Doc Rivers mismanaging a rotation. It's useful for venting frustration, but nothing's going to change. Randolph simply isn't a real good manager. And his mismanagement of the bullpen is just further proof of that.

We should have traded Heilman when his value was high. I wouldn't trust him with anything less than a 5 run lead at this point.

You don't have to tell me about Randolph, I have been on him since we hired him. Boik will tell you I have had the same complaints, and I know the man, his son is my sons batting coach. he just has no feel for this team and if I hear him say " he is one of my guys" one more time I may strangle him the next time I see him at his baseball school.

With his handling of this bullpen Willie Randolph will:

    A) Cause a mass suicide of our relievers sometime in August.

    B) Have them go on strike by July and have us finish the season with Free Agent pickups Paul Quantrill and Dennis Cook. (Is Roger McDowell available?)

    C) Get himself fired in October when we finish 4 games out of the playoffs.

    Pick one. Just one.

Willie doesnt take all the blame on this one. Ya he goofed by bringing in Heilman, no question. But 3 runs against the nats? Come on! It should never have even come to Heilman.

What the hell is going on with Jose Reyes? Hes hitting what, 258? Hes been consistently mediocre since getting pulled out of a game for not running out the grounder last summer. Right now hes a candidate for the most overrated player in baseball. Last year at this time we were talking about him as a top 5 player in baseball. Now hes the 3rd, maybe 4th best SS in the division. I dont know if its the manager or something going on internally, but whatever it is, this team goes as he goes so he better get his stuff together. He deserves to hear it the way hes been playing.

I believe its Randolph trying to muffle him, Reyes seems like a kid that will sulk and hold grudges. I don't blame Willie for benching him when he did not run out the ball, but I do blame him for not realizing that Reyes game comes from his energy and having fun. I think when Randolph told him to cut the crap, it took a big toll on him. Notice after Beltran said be Jose again, he started to hit. I just wonder if Randolph is still telling him behind the scene to hold his emotion. Wiliie wants little Willies on the field.

Someone just offered me Michael Young and Aaron Harang for Jose in my fantasy league. Think Im gonna have to take it. Im in 3rd place even with his struggles...

I think youre nuts if you take it. Even with Jose's struggles hes an elte fantasy option because of his SB's and runs. Young is good but he gets easy to find rbi stats and carries a good, not great BA that Jose can easily replicate.

Very well could be but jose needs to get his game back to justify his antics.

I also have Johnny Peralta at SS. Jose hasnt been stealing that many bases (see the problem is you have to GET ON BASE to steal them) and his avg. is horrible right now.

I dont think Id be losing that much by platooning Young/Peralta. Sides I have Carl Crawford who steals quite a few bases and scores alot of runs. I'll give Jose another couple weeks to get his act together. Sadly for Mets fans (great for Braves fans :wink2:) I dont think he has lived up to the hype. It appears NY is wearing on him.

Hes a great player and may turn it around, but he's not a great hitter and will have to walk alot more to be successful.

Theres a few problems with what youre saying:
    1. Fantasy and reality are very different. Peralta and Young are very good SS for big league teams. Fantasy wise they only contribute 2 stats, occasionally 3. Young always has good rbi and BA, sometimes really contributes in runs or homers. Peralta had the one good HR year but otherwise is strictly rbi and runs. The problem is that Reyes contributes in the harder to find stats (SB, Runs), and is capable of contributing in the other 3, hrs, rbi and BA. So youre giving a potentially 5 stat player for guys who maximize at 3.

    2. Youre selling low on Reyes. you probably spent a high pick on him and youre giving him away for a decent SP and a decent ss. Problem is those guys are drafted about 100- 125 spots later. So youre not getting value and youre selling low.

    3. You appear to let your feelings towards your teams division rivals interfere with good judgement. Fantasy is all about being detatched from your favorite team in real life. Last year I felt dirty as a pig in poop when I owned Chipper, Smoltz, Hudson, McCann, and Kelly Johnson. But after I won that league and the $800 prize I felt a lot better. If you can win with your favorite players, great. But if you have to win with players you dont necessarily like, you do what you have to do to win. Basically you have to detach yourself more from an emotional standpoint. :wink2:

Nah, he will continue on this path...hes had success against washington this year and last year including a 7inning shutout ealier this year. He just needs to keep doing what hes doing but for the love of god stop walking the #8 hitter (Jesus Flores); hes done it twice already today. :hi5:

Can we get this guy some run support now?

I hear what you're saying bro, but Reyes ISNT producing in those areas right now. And I own Beltran as well, I dont let my homerism interfere with Fantasy Sports trust me. You make a fair point about selling low, I'd def have to revise the trade for a better pitcher than Aaron Harang.

I like Jose as a player, but if he maintains this horrid pace then what? Sometimes you have to cut your losses. Id have a whole teams of Mets, Phillies, and Marlins if I knew I could win with it.

BTW, this is the third year in a row Ive selected Reyes within my top 2 picks...

Paul Konerko and David Ortiz start horribly every year and usually dont heat up til mid may. It doesnt stop me from drafting or trading for them. Just keep it in mind that what someone does in April and early May isnt necessarily the path they will continue down.....

If you trade reyes you should be getting peavy webb or johan back with young for the drop off youre taking. :wink2:

That was one great catch, game would have been tied.

Beltran? What is he taking off on a line drive to first? First thing you are taught is watch the line drives, make sure they make it through.

this team just pisses me off!

  30. With 1 out, tying run 90 feet away, you shouldn't be running on contact...period. If its a base hit, beltran walks home. If it's a fly ball, odds are he jogs home.. No need to be running on contact, 90 feet from home.

    I actually agree with Wagner.

One hes asking his teammates and coaches to be accountable. Why are they asking a closer all the tough questions? People always make fun of relievers the way they make fun of punters and kickers now Wagner's stuck as the team spokesperson? What kind of ******ation is that? To boot, he met with Delgado over it for like an hour today.

The second thing is it led to willie having a close door meeting for about an hour and a half. he was supposed to meet the press at 4:30 today (Girardi was slotted for 4:00), and willie didnt get out there til after 5:30. So maybe it led to a good ***chewing for some of these guys. Wright and Castillo for not hustling on Wrights pop up and Beltran for being dumb on 3rd with less then 2 outs yesterday.

Ive thought about this and where Willie lost this team wasnt when reyes was pulled from that game in Houston last year for not hustling; it was when he relaxed the rules. All the rules about facial hair and how to wear your uniform and everything else we dont hear about anymore. At some point they feared him enough to listen whereas now I think the words go in one ear and out the other. We're wasting our time with him right now, his time and our's because its very rare that a manager can really lose a team and get them back, though I think Cholly did a good job of that last year in Philly.

Man, that was sweet to hear a "Let's Go Mets!" chant at Yankee Stadium.

I agree, though, Willie's definitely on thin ice. In retrospect he probably should have been fired after last season. That was one of the rare times that "change for the sake of change" might have been the right move. I don't know who would take over, though. Ken Oberkfell, perhaps, the AAA manager?

What about Lee Mazzilli? He did a good job and got a raw deal with the O's, and he is a fiery guy. You know Bobby Valentines name will pop up, but I think he likes being a god in Japan.

I wouldn't mind at all giving Bobby V another shot, but you're right, he's pretty happy where he is. Frankly, I wish they'd done this in the offseason, and we could have brought in Joe Torre. You KNOW he'd have taken the Mets job, just to piss off the Steinbrothers. I would imagine that Mazzilli would be on any short list, considering he works right there in NY. I forget whether he's with SNY or YES.
