Yep. It's nice that Manning and his agent want the deal hammered out before the rest of FA starts.

I'm really curious if it's all accurate.

Right now it sounds like it's really either AZ or us.

I've been against getting Manning from the start because I feel that there is a lot of risk that he will not be good to go. Sounds like I'm going to have to cross my fingers he's recovered.

This is the stupidest thing I've read on these boards. Just because some idiot on Inside the NFL didn't do a fluff piece on Dan Marino's study habits doesn't mean he wasn't a student of the game. You're just pulling this out of your ***. What proof do you have that Marino wasn't a student of the game. Please enlighten me, you student of students!

Manning.. ''how bout moving the seats closer to the field so the fans don't need a bullhorn to be heard''

    Ross..Done..

So the idea of Peyton and Reggie developing chemistry to where Peyton can pretty much flick a short pass and Reggie Bush takes it for fourteen yards worries you? The weapons in this lineup will be incredible for a team running a short yardage offense. With the rules the way they are it could be a matchup nightmare to stop Miami. Peyton is so accurate in the short it's going to be mind-blowing.

It's Peyton Manning, not Kyle Orton.

I don't think Philbin is as sensitive.

Hmmm Earl Morrall and Don Shula both made their way from the Colts to the Dolphins.....

Wasn't Morrall older than Peyton during the perfect season? 38 years old?

I agree. I think The Padre is getting into the communion wine suggesting we should trade a proven QB whom we have for a very cheap contract, when we are bringing in a guy coming off a major injury to be the #1.

Not so fast my friend, how about:

He'd have still been very draftable had he stayed at WR though not a 1st. No doubt whatsoever. That's why I wouldn't mind taking him to be a backup QB for a few years. In the meantime, while being the 3rd QB, he could also get PT as the 4th-5th WR and probably be very effective.

Marino has on more than one occasion discussed his aversion of breaking down film, etc. His philosophy has and will always be to just go out there and throw the dam ball. He has said as much.

What is stupid is you attributing things to Marino he just didn't posses. Lemme guess, next you're gonna tell us he was a running QB too?

I don't watch Inside the NFL, btw.

    You were extremely rude.

Tell you what, why don't you show me a quote or evidence he was a student of the game.

I was rude. You are right. I should not have been. I found your assertion to be shocking. My evidence that he was a student of the game is his production. You don't accomplish what he accomplished by just winging it. A quick google search says that in his autobiography, he said Shula allowed him to call his own plays, which forced him to study longer.http://www.encyclopedia.com/topic/Dan_Marino.aspx

Where's your quote that Dan admitted to not studying game tape and just going out there to wing it?

Marino didn't care what the Defense did..he didn't need to he just threw to the open man.. and if the window was tight he fired it in there perfectly. Marino was a complete natural at QB he didn't need a "system" he just needed to know OUR playbook.

    Well away from here
Ron Jaworski has spoken about Marino's meeting room habits before on ESPN telecasts, how he called run plays "dirty running plays" and basically always said he just threw it to the open guy. Marino wasn't a guy to read coverage at some astounding level, he was astute at getting the ball out of his hand so damn fast that most of the time the defense didn't have a chance.

And no, I don't have a quote on it, but I've heard it with my own two ears do thats the best I can do.

I remember an interview with Bill Walsh about Dan Marino. Bill Walsh wanted to pick Marino's brain about how he goes through his progressions and how he attacks a defense. Marino's reply surprised Bill Walsh, "I just throw it to the open guy."

interestingly enough: it doesn't appear our Coach is that big on Manning. talks a lot about building through the draft, whatever. all I can say if Peyton decides to ply his wares with another franchise & Ross feels somehow Philbin didn't help the cause, then he better get us to the Superbowl without Manning this year if he wants to keep his job.

lol just watch any game he played and you can tell he was a student of the game. Weather he was a film room guy or not is irrelevant, the man could recognize and destroy defenses with ease and that you don't get without being a "student" of the game.
