What do I think of this guy ? He is Shermans son in law and it ends there. He had a half *** decent college career at Nebraska and it ends there. If he was not hired by the Dolphins he wold not even get a sniff at coaching in the NFL. Thats what I think about Zac Taylor. Basically, bad move. He has a pair of ball explaining what it takes to be an NFL quarterback. He was not even a top tier college QB. Its bullsheeet hiring of family at its best.
So he is a bad hire purely based on the fact he's Sherman's son in law? It's not like the guy is the offensive coordinator. He's there to learn from a guy who knows a thing or two about offenses. It's an after thought hire. If he amounts to something, great. If not, oh well. Look at Brian Ferentz going back to Iowa to work for his Dad. The guy is regarded as a pretty good coach, who I'm sure used his Dad to get him a few jobs.
Wow, that’s harsh. Assistant QB coach is nothing more than an intern for his father-in-law as far as a job description goes. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess he knows Sherman’s playbook cold. They didn’t hire a QB coach, so someone has to be in the QB room when Sherman is dealing with the other units. It’s an entry level hire that Sherman trusts. No more – no less. He was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2006, so he’s got that goin’ for him, which is nice. In the interview he spoke about one of the things I think set elite passers apart from the rest. We all see guys “staring down” their receivers. If a QB uses his peripheral vision correctly he can still be staring down his target, it just doesn’t look like it.
Had no idea you needed to be a great QB at some level to be a good assistant QB coach. For all we know he may be a very bright guy with a future in the league, or he might get whoever the QB coach ends up being water during practice. However basing that off his college career is a bit ridiculous.
3 things: 1. How can "it end there" in two different places? 2. How many NFL QB coaches were NFL QB's? 3. If any coaching position is perfect for nepotism, wouldn't ASSISTANT QB Coach be that position or is this hire a vital cog in your opinion?

Appears to being another case of nepotism in the NFL. After last season, Sparano hired his son as an assistant in the NFL and how did that turn out? I don't care if he was a good college QB or not. That really doesn't mean he would make a bad NFL QB's coach. Yet I feel this has far more to do with Sherman wanting his daughters husband to have a job in these bad economic times than it does with his actual qualifications for the job. As the saying goes, "It's not what you know, but who you know". In this case it is, who you are married to. I doubt very seriously that he would have ever been hired for a job in the NFL if the Dolphins had not hired him. I hope he purchased a great, thank you Valentines present for Sherman's daughter.

Well, under your premise...no wonder they didn't retain Mike Nolan, after all he got his coaching started by his dad....Oh, and Jim Mora has no business in coaching either...and in congruent lines, guys like Andrew Luck, Chris Snee, Channing Crowder, Clay Matthews, and those terrible Manning Brothers (to name a small few) all have no business in football either... This is not a very sensible statement... He may very well have gotten a shot because of his father. But the Fins accepting that hire is not up to you and I to determine until we see that it is a bad hire...Do you know this guy ?? Have you seen him coach anywhere ?? What are the things that disqualify him as a coach...his daddy ?? His prowess (or lack there of) as a college player ?? The fact that he wasn't an NFL player ?? I don't get the hate here....

I will fully admit that as a Nebraska fan I have some bias in regards to Zac Taylor, but that being said, if the kid didn't have a weak arm, he would probably still be collecting a check in the NFL IMO. As a player, he was essentially an extension of the coaching staff on the field. The guy ran Bill Callahan's 12 pound playbook extremely well after next to no time to learn it as he came in as a JUCO and was immediately named the starter. Now, as I pointed out when the hire was announced, he is Mike Sherman's SIL, and that may have had something to do with the hire, but c'mon, give the guy a chance to fail or succeed before the hire is condemned.

So because this guy wasn't a good college qb and was never an nfl qb, then it means he will suck at coaching? Hmmmm some of the most legendary coaches sucked at their sport. Most great NFL head coaches were never nfl players themselves, and if they were, they weren't stars. There is no correlation between the two. If your theory was correct, ppl like Bellicheck, coughlin, fox, etc shouldn't be nfl coaches. am i right? hahaha so your theory is just mentally impaired and you should be embarrassed that after years of being an nfl fan, you still know squat.
Wow....quite a first post.....I agree with the gist of what you're saying about coaches...but ease up with the insults
I've been looking on this forum for quite some time. Most opinions or statements by fans on here about a player, a coach or what this team should do is completely fare off and a reason why they aren't in a position to run a team.
But this is my last post. Because of my position, I am not allowed to post on this site or related sites. But after watching this forum for quite some time, I had to say something. Hopefully I got the point across. Everyone thinks they can coach or run a pro/college team. Everyone thinks they are a hall of fame scout or GM. People also think they are magical doctors that can read a player's or coache's mind. See ya.
