That was the 2011 ranking. and yes, it is very realistic. Basketball is more than scoring 20 points and having a good face for a NBA2k cover.

BTW, I find it hilarious that Knick fans who blow EVERYTHING out of proportion, don't appreciate how good a season Landry Fields had last year.

If Lin were shooting 21% granny style and still getting credit for Knicks wins, then I might compare him to Tebow. And Tebow was actually drafted.

I agree. Lin is playing great ball, unlike Tim Tebow. I just question whether or not he could keep it up.

Basketball is more then scoring but hes an average defender and he cant score with Melo there so I dont understand how that ranking could possibly come out taht good. Im not saying he sucks but Fields is not the 8th best player in the NBA in ANY year. I dont care what stats say what. You mean to tell me that if GM's were having a 1 year draft last year or this year Landry Fields is getting picked 8th? Come on. Thats ridiculous, based on any stat.

Generalizations about all Knick fans and lumping me in with that is not something i really appreciate. I dont lump you (or other members of this board) in with Heat fans and my opinion of them.

Lin with another incredible finish. A huge 3 point play to tie the game, and then on the very next possession he hits the game winning 3. Unbelievable.

And what about Shumpert and how good he's been since Lin took over the point. Simply amazing!

And for the record. I do NOT expect Lin to continue at this pace, however he's clearly something this team has been missing. Here's to hoping Melo can adapt and mesh to this team's style

We'll see. I expect them to continue to lose once they start playing real teams again. Especially if the Black Hole is back by then.

The same Black Hole that Coach Pringles had playing point forward because he had no other option.
The same Black Hole that his teammates deferred to late in the shot clock because they cant create their own shots early in the year.
The same Black Hole that NEVER had that moniker in Denver for 7.5 years. Or last year in NY.
The same Black Hole that as a rookie in Denver took a 20 win team and made it a playoff team.
Gotcha. Love the Melo hate. Cant wait til crushes Igo again.

Its only this year when people dont know what theyre watching that they throw that on him without knowing the context of why hes taking 30 shots a game. Melo is not a PG, hasnt been since HS. Some players are versatile like Lebron or Rose. Others have a scorers mentality and thats what theyre good at. Melo is the latter and not the former. He is among the top 3 individual scorers in the league and hes the best rebounding SF in the league.

Lin can actually play his position, Tebow cant.

Those numbers do not say that Landry Fields is the 8th best player. Not even close.

I didn't lump you in with knick fans. Was making an observation about knick fans in general. Or the "most knowledgeable fans in the nba."

Melo is nowhere near the best rebounding sf in the league. They invented the phrase "one dimensional" for Melo.

Sorry but saying Carmelo was never thought of as a black hole in Denver couldn't be further from the truth. He needs the ball in his hands a lot. The problem is, he's a Monta Ellis type of black hole instead of a Kobe/Iverson type of black hole. You enjoy watching Carmelo going an awful 9-24 on Iguodala again. I'll be enjoying Iguodala in the 2nd round of the playoffs, maybe ECF if we can avoid the Heat until then, something Carmelo isn't use to seeing since players like him tend to not make it out of the 1st round very often. Though even a single playoff game win would be a huge success for the Knicks if they can even manage the playoffs :wink2:

I don't know that I agree with the first part. I know Carmelo struggled last game against Philadelphia, but that's one game. I think you could make an argument that Melo's offense is better than Iguodala's defense.

Iguodala is one of the 5 best defenders in the NBA and has a very real chance of winning DPOY. Is Carmelo one of the 5 best Offensive players in the NBA? I certainly don't think so. And Carmelo is shooting under 40% on the season. That's atrocious.

I don't know that I agree that Iggy is a top 5 defensive player. If I had better statistics for it, I could check and agree.

You could make a case that Melo is a top 5 offensive player. He's struggling this season, yes. But it's only about a 30 game sample. For his career he shoots close to 46%, I believe.

Again, I'm not disagreeing with you but I'm not sure I agree. It's hard because I don't have access to defensive stats for Iggy. I don't think it's so easy to say he is, though.

Which is of course why Pat Riley once called Melo the best scorer in the game...

Im done with this thread. A lot of preconceived notions in here about Anthony. None of which are actually true.

And Igo as a top 5 defender is funny as Im not even sure hes the best defender on his own team. Howard, Sefolosha, Warden, LBJ, Gerald wallace, The entire celtics starting lineup save for Pierce, Josh Smith....Igo's barely top 5 at his position. The two times Melo has faced Igo as a Knick, 1x last year and 1x this year, hes averaged 29 and 10 RPG on 21 of 47 shooting. Igo is a joke.

There's a lot more to offense than points and FG percentages. He's had the advantage of playing on fast paced offenses his whole career to help his scoring. He's not the type of player who makes his teammates better. He's not a good passer, which is one of the reasons the Knicks have struggled so much, because they've been trying to make him a distributor.

As for Iguodala, the stats are readily available in many places. The stats show he's among the best defenders in the league, but it's not just a stats thing. Watching the Sixers play makes that pretty evident. But if it's stats you want. The 76ers give up 9.8 points more points per 100 possessions when he's not on the floor. His per-48 opponent PER is 8.2. His opponent averages 12.8 points per 48. He's given up an eFG% of 36.6%. He's given up a FG% of 35.5% Given up a 3 point FG% of 23.3% His opponent scores 35.4% of plays that end in a FG attempt, foul, or turnover. His opponent turns it over 11.1% of the time. Draws a foul 6.1% of the time. Gives up 0.74 points per possession. 8th in the NBA in steals per game. 7th in Defensive Rating. 2nd in Defensive Win Shares.

I'll compare the numbers to anyone you feel to be better if you want.

Name 5 better defenders at his position. Go on. You can be done with the thread if you like. Too much reality in here for one to bear. The biggest realities of them all:

Knicks without Melo > Knicks with Melo
Nuggets without Melo > Nuggets with Melo
Nuggets without Melo > Knicks with Melo
Knicks losing record despite playing the easiest schedule
3rd best team in the division behind a team with no star, and the local nursing home team

I don't want to put you through all the work of comparing Iggy to every player in the NBA, lol.

Plus, I need a larger sample size than this season. He's playing great now, but was he always a top 5 defender over the last 3 or so seasons? If a website like mysynergysports.com had it up it would be easier to answer.

I have no idea where the Carmelo is the best rebounding SF idea came from. LeBron, Gerald Wallace, Durant, Iguodala, Luol Deng, Shawn Marion, Rudy Gay all off the top of my head.

He got used up a little yesterday, but his game was really underrated last night. Yes, he had 178 turnovers, but he was the focal point on every high pick and roll. He can flat out play. I thought he was great last night. His weakness is his defense, which is putrid. But let's face it, that is an endearing aspect of any D'Antoni team.

The Best Defensive SF's in the game:

    1) Lebron (although, not this year, since the Heat are giving him help to keep him fresh.)
    2) Gerald Wallace (The ONLY guy that actually bothers LBJ)
    3) Iggy
    4) Deng
    5) Marion
    6) Gay
    7) Ariza
    8) Prince
    9) James Johnson
    10) Alonzo Gee

If you count bench players, then Nic Batum , Shane Battier, and Quentin Richardson get in somewhere.
