Let me know the next time math coaches or plays the game. Fisher made it to the SB which makes all that math & stats meaningless. I'm no Fisher fan but you can read way too much into stats.
Maybe. However, there is no better way to judge a coach than by W-L. We aren't talking about players. Not even SB appearances are a good indicator. Barry Switzer Jim Fassel John Fox Lovie Smith Ken Wisenhunt Jim Caldwell Are some of the SB coaches off the top of my head.
Completely disagree. Lots of coaches have made it to the big game and lost that aren't necessarily quality coaches. And if he is such a great coach how come he only won 2 more playoff games in his next 11 years in Tennessee? W-L is THE way to judge a coach. And like I said I was even being generous by throwing out his 1-5 first season. I don't know how you can assert that an NFL head coach isn't responsible for his own W-L record or that a coach barely above .500 over a 17 year span somehow gets a pass on 11 years of mediocrity because of one lost super bowl.
120 out of 126 is pretty overwhelming. I admit I didn't know much about Philbin before he was hired. I also thought it was a little odd that he took the job so soon after his son had passed away. But after hearing his comments about his family telling him to take the job - that his son would've wanted him to - I'm a big fan. He seems like a very well-prepared guy, and it's easy to see why Ross and Ireland were so impressed with him during the interviews.
I completely agree with everything from this post, down to being impressed with him during interviews. We will see how that translate into head football coach. But I like him so far.
