It's good that the only thing I care about is that Henne blows, and won't be a Dolphin next year. I could care less about other QB's, most of whom are better than Henne.

Promise and potential is nothing more than a fancy way of saying "He sucks now, but he's only a rookie". After 3 years of suck, it's evident there's not any promise or potential there.

I got it from his growth during the offseason & beginning of the season in the new offense, and I got it from what was said about him by the coaching staff and his fellow players. Fans thought he was lacking between the ears, but Daboll said otherwise after witnessing Henne both quickly absorbing the playbook and teaching it to the offense as well as having a decent understanding of making adjustments at the line despite little prior experience. If you don't provide a QB the chance to use his head during the game (audibles etc), then it'll obviously delay his development in the mental aspect. When Daboll arrived and gave Henne more freedom mentally, it sped up his development, but it still wasn't enough to help him catch up to the learning curve that others like Matt Ryan have been subjected to.

I'm just done settling for Henne. I'd rather see them trade up for a top prospect like RG3.

I don't think the Giants regret trading up for Eli Manning now that they're going to their 2nd Super Bowl.

Strongest arm yes. Most talented arm? No

It's too easy to lay all the blame on Dan Henning. He has coached some pretty decent Qb's in his time. Was the slow development of Chad Henne all Henning's fault? I don't think so. Part of it for sure but

The initial "something missing" was any inkling of decent coaching or an offense conducive toward his development.

It's simple. A QB has little chance to develop when his OC:
    1. assumes full control of an offense, not allowing his QB to develop the mental side of his game b/c audibles and the ability to think for himself don't exist.
    2. routinely takes the ball out of his QB's hands inside FG range, preventing his development in the redzone.
    3. predictably calls nothing but 5 step drops. How do you develop into a complete QB when significant aspects of the game are removed from your repertoire?
    4. Is overly conservative. It's hard to develop the vertical game when given few opportunities and are criticized for taking chances (see David Lee & Thigpen).
    5. doesn't altar the playbook to suit the QB.

Any one of these could impair a young QB's development, let along all 5 combined.

Henne's first chance to significantly develop came with Daboll. He'll need another opportunity like that to show what he's actually capable of. Plenty of talented QBs have failed in the NFL b/c they weren't in the right situation, weren't in a system that meets their needs, or lacked quality coaching.

Being a good NFL QB isn't enough to actually be a good QB. The position is too sensitive in the NFL, as it's too dependent upon external factors outside of the QB's control.

The only joke is that old video, made by a hating Ohio State fan. A similar video could be made about every QB the
Yuckeyes have had since Henne first enrolled at Michigan.

I agree, part of Henne's slow development was definitely on Henne; that's why he was a 2nd rounder--- b/c it was assumed he'd need some time to develop.
However, IMO "slow development" and a near lack of development are 2 different things. It's not like Henne was a slacker or anything.

Henning gets the blame from me for the lack of development, especially since his offenses have routinely showcased either the plight of QBs or their lack of development. I went back over his past 20 years and couldn't find an example of any young QB developing into something of substance, consistency, and longevity under his control. Actually, the percentage of regressing QBs was astounding. People mention Delhomme as a success example, but Delhomme regressed remarkably under Henning. Dan's offenses featured significantly more QB Ratings in the 60's & 70's than 80's & 90's, and more often than not saw more INTs than TDs IIRC.

It's ok for Alex Smith to be hindered and developmentally slowed by 7 OCs over 7 years but not ok for Henne to be impaired by 3 years of an OC who's been fired more times than a guerilla held AK47.

No, but Henne still does blow as a QB doesn't he? Can't wait until that loser goes somewhere else this offseason. Maybe he'll take some of his greatest fans along with him ala John Beck.

Too bad Smith's coach did not come here last year instead of San Fran. Then we'd know for sure but I'm not willing to wait 5 seasons, much less 7. So unless Philbin is a Qb genius they had best find one thats well on his way in the development department because it's been going on 12 seasons without one....

Had that been Miami in that spot, Henne should have caught that dropped TD that would have sealed the win.

Even though the defender made a GREAT play on the ball.

I was a Dolphins fan long before that scrub came along, and I'll be a Dolphins fan long after that scrub is gone. And it's not being a hater when it's the truth. But his supporters do provide comic relief for me so not sure why that would deter me anyways.

I don't feel like waiting 5 or 7 seasons either. It's probably in Henne's best interest to have a fresh start with a team that puts him in a better position to succeed from the get-go. IMO what we did with him goes into the book of how not to develop a QB. Moore came in at the right time w/o any prior Dolphin baggage, so I'd stick with him and his momentum unless we either trade up for Griffin or Philibin feels Flynn is franchise worthy. We know Matt throws a decent deep ball, so I'd look to build on that ability by adding another WR & TE who can make plays down field.

Why would the Henne supporters on here follow Chad when they, too, have been a Dolphin fan long before he arrived?
So what you're saying is you hate players on the team you root for even if those players dedicate 110% of themselves to your team? lol. I'm not gonna say "what a fan you are" b/c that would make me a judgmental fan.
You know what else provides comic relief?---- knowing that the reason you hate and trash Henne so much is because you're projecting your anger toward Henne supporters onto Chad himself. It's nice to see they have that much influence over you. Trashing Henne (rather than simply disliking the guy) is your way of trashing his supporters, only w/o receiving an infraction for it. If his time at QB has caused you any emotional torment, then I guess you could chalk that up in the victory column, too. :wink2:

Yes I hate players that blow. And you'll have a hard time convincing me Henne gave 110%. If that was the case he would of learned how to hit a WR in stride, how to place the ball where a WR can pick up YAC, how to beat shell coverage, how not to make horrific decisions, etc. I don't hate Henne the person, I'm sure he's a good guy. But as a football player, he blows, and was a waste of a second round pick, and 3 years. As for Henne supporters, we need those in the community for comic relief like we needed the Beck supporters, and Sparano supporters. There isn't any possible way someone can think Henne deserves another shot here, or should be starting anywhere.

Hate to tell you this, football geniuses, but Matt Moore BLOWS. He padded his stats against LOSING teams. Henne played 2 out of 3 playoff teams, including the AFC rep in the superbowl. Moore had a TERRIBLE 4th quarter rating. He couldn't bring us back vs the Cowboys or Giants. He had 7 TOs in his last 4 games.

Sorry kids, this is NOT what you want from your starting QB.

    MATT MOORE BLOWS!

The problem is Henne doesn't improvise well. If the play broke down he just couldn't figure out what to do consistently. If he is the second coming of Alex Smith, then I hope he shows us somewhere else.

OK so now you're trying to tell people who are not fans of Chad Henne that they're stupid by bringing Matt Moore into the argument? Speaking of genius....

Did you ever stop to think that some of the people who want Moore to compete for a starting Qb job next season might also be taking into account that Moore is actually signed to be here next season?

Right, because Henning ran so many routes that allowed for YAC. lol.

-"Beating shell coverage"? When did Henne become the OC? When did our ground game not suck on 1st down to help leave us in more unpredictable passing situations considering our terrible pass protection and massive inexperience at WR/TE?.... you know--- since we were a "rushing offense" under Henning.

-"Making horrific decisions"? When was Henne allowed to make decisions or develop that area of his game? How can one become a great decision-maker if he's afforded little practice b/c his bosses assume virtually full control?

-"Hitting receivers in stride"? So there's no chemistry involved between QB & WR/TE? How long did it take Moore to settle in with an unchanging group of WRs/TEs? Now go back to 2010 and tell me how often our QB play experienced a similar level of continuity at WR/TE. It was only during the first half of the year, the first half that coincidentally saw Henne playing at a quality level and with us still in the playoff picture.

Added, it's slightly more difficult to hit receivers in stride when Henning's offense is built around timing, precision, & execution and you have a group of inexperienced practice squad players at WR & TE b/c your starters are injured without any depth behind them. You know how I know this was a problem? We drafted a WR & TE with 2 of our first 4 picks. You know how I know our 1st down rushing & pass protection was a problem? We drafted a center & back with our first 2 picks.

Now, I've never said QB play wasn't a problem and I never said Henne was a top 5 QB. I've always stated that his play has been negatively influenced here and his development has been stunted b/c of it. I've always believed he has the chance to be a quality starter in the right system under beneficial circumstances just as every other NFL QB needs the same and will likely fail without it (see Sam Bradford and the long list of talented QBs who "seemed" like busts but perhaps really weren't).

Exactly. Henne didn't improvise well. That's what happens when your coaches assume absolute control of the play callling and instill a "make no mistake" mentality into your offense; you don't develop that aspect of your game.

When Henne was finally given some freedom (in year 4 with Daboll), we actually saw his improvising ability begin to improve as he was more able to use it and be in the mindset that improvising and taking chances are acceptable for once. We saw him attempting passes down field when plays broke down that he would've been criticized for under Henning.

What happened when Thigpen improvised and chucked an unapproved jump ball to Marshall? Do you remember that? Remember watching him being reamed by Lee as soon as he hit the sideline? A QB won't be a good improviser in a system that discourages and even admonishes it.

None of it is Henne's fault, we know. When in reality, most of it is his fault, because he's a ****ty QB, with no tools to be a good QB other than arm strength which is probably the most overrated part of being a QB that there is.

If you'll be so kind as to fill in the blank below:

"Chad Henne should've succeeded in Miami b/c of ___________."

Rather than fans simply & conveniently saying how "bad" Henne was, It'd be nice to hear reasons from non-supporters as to why Chad should've developed and succeeded in Miami.

Here's what Rob Rang (it's the quickest analysis I could find) said about Henne prior to Miami, Henning, and Sparano got a hold of him:

I think you're forgetting that NFL coaches and the offense the QB is in plays a huge part of his development or lack there of. Is Bradford a terrible QB, or was he being set up for failure? Having a ton of talent and potential isn't enough; it has to be developed. If that weren't the case, then college QBs would come in ready for the Pro Bowl.

That's exactly what's bothersome---- that we won't truly know what Henne's value is until after he leaves Miami. That question should've been answered while he was here. Crap like that is what has fans witnessing a QB carousel for a dozen years as well as an organization in the dumps.

........ "on what they feel Henne's ability to be" based on the QB that he's become after 3 years in Miami.
Would that assessment be the same if he spent the past 3 years in a different organization, one that was actually QB friendly?

Since we all know a QB's development relies on many external circumstances, how do we know how much of Henne's failure to meet expectations were on Henne, himself, rather than both a failure to develop him and the situation he was in?

It's not like Henne was an untalented, small-school, late-round draft pick with little starting experience and limitations to his arm.
He was an elite prospect out of high school who started 4 years at a major program, displayed a 1st round arm, is/was dedicated to his team, showcased great heart, toughness, and competitiveness in playing through injuries in college (and with a sprained knee during 2nd half of 2010), and is anything but a slacker (evidenced by the amount of time he invests in the film room, learning Daboll's new playbook, running player-only practices, etc), and isn't a troublesome headcase like Ryan Leaf or Vince Young. If you have a player like that and can't develop him into at least a quality starter, then the organization and coaching staff has problems and is failing in its responsibilities.

What happened when we needed Moore to make one more throw vs. Dallas? He didn't. What happened when we needed Moore to make one more throw vs. the Giants? He didn't. What happened when we needed Moore to make one more throw vs NE? You guessed it, he didn't. He never one time stepped up to win us a game in the 4th quarter vs a quality opponent. He coasted to victory over garbage teams. He will NOT be the type of QB to put a team on his back.
