    • The popular belief is that Miami is in the market for a franchise QB.
    • The popular belief is that Flynn is the hottest FA QB available
    • The popular belief is that Philbin has insidered knowledge on Flynn

So if Miami isn't hot and heavy for Flynn its going to send red flags up accross the NFL. I would expect to hear a lot of rumors most likely started by Flynn's agent that Flynn to Miami is a done deal, irregardless of whether we have interest or not.

Actually I would have no problem if the Packers decide to tag Flynn. I am not completely sold on him as a starting NFL QB and perhaps having to trade a first round draft pick to the Packers to get Flynn just might give the Dolphins second thoughts about trading for him, if they are so inclined.

The benefit of the Packers tagging Flynn is that they would not be able to tag Jermichael Finley. While he was not the player this season that he was in previous years because he was coming off a leg injury from the 2010 season. He still is one of the top TE's in the NFL and would be a definite upgrade at that position for the Dolphins. I certainly would love to see Finley in a Dolphins uniform next season.

You'd rather a TE than a CHANCE on a franchise QB?

    Here and there
I'm not ready to anoint Flynn the next Montana but this is ridiculaous, in the Lions game alone his ball placement was supurb, his back shoulder throws were dead nuts on. dont mistake those for under throws and keep in mind when he did under throw it was i the wind where most QBs would under throw. He lead the recievers very well. Did he have miss throws? Yes, like EVERY QB in EVERY game has. some throws looked like he pushed them. As far as avoiding the rush goes, no he isnt Aron Rogers, but he isnt a statue either and it was only his second game, dam give the kid a few games to adjust to nfl speed.

I didnt see things with him like i have seen with other backup QBs that were mistaken for starters where the talen around them bailed them out. I didnt see GBs recievers making special spectacular catches, the throws were accurate on time and had zip when needed.
I dont know if he will ever be a special player consistantly, and be that SB winning HOF QB. But please do not make him sound like he was "lucky" in those games.

Obviously I would take a franchise QB over any other position on the football team. I am just not sold on the idea that Flynn is a franchise type QB. If The Dolphins are convinced that Flynn is a franchise QB and they are willing to sign him as a free agent, or trade for him if the Packers tag him, I certainly will have to accept that they have the faith that he is a franchise QB.

Accepting what they decide to do in regards to Flynn is one thing, but that does not mean that I am convinced at this time that Flynn is the long term answer for the Dolphins at the QB position. If we were talking about trading first round draft picks for Luck or RG3, I would happily agree with the Dolphins making this trade.

Right now we don't even know for sure that Philbin or the Dolphins front office is even interested in bringing Flynn to the Dolphins. It is merely speculation based on the fact Philbin was the offensive coordinator on the team where Flynn was the backup QB. The reality is that Flynn played very little during the regular season during his time with the Packers. While he certainly seemed to play well against the Lions late in the season. Both teams were already in the playoffs prior to the game and I view his stats in this game as similar to what he would probably put up if he was playing an entire preseason game.

Flynn may or may not be a top tier QB in the NFL in the future. Finley on the other hand has shown already that he is one of the top TE's in the entire NFL. If Philbin feels that Flynn is the long term answer at the QB position and he convinces Ross of this, I am sure the Dolphins will work out a deal to get Flynn in free agency or through a trade. I just would also like to see Finley with the Dolphins next year whether Flynn is with the team or not.

Driver is 37 and with Jordy Nelson waiting to become the #1 WR, they won't tag Donald. As a career Packer, he'll resign there or retire.

How did you reach that conclusion already?? You said is better, not "may be" better.

Unless of course its your personal opinion then its all here say. Much like the way I got reamed on a daily basis when I stated several times that Henne is not a very good QB and didnt deserve to be our starter.
On the other hand,I have no idea if Flynn is better then Moore but its something I`d like to find out.

I've never seen it written anywhere exactly what Flynn has ever said what he'd want for a contract. The 5yr/60mil range contract is just thrown out there as speculation by we fans since it is about what Kolb got. 5yr/63mil w/12mil guaranteed to be more precise.

    Oooohh, battle of the Matts....

I'm just not sure either way, Padre.... Every time I think of Flynn, I have flashbacks of AJ Feeley in the same system...maybe it's just 10 yrs of bad QB moves that blind me to anything new, but it's still comes out... Moore may do very well in this offense (assuming he does bring in the SBO (South Beach Offense. thanks to PhinsCane)... I'm still not feeling Flynn yet...gotta look at the one game he did have again...

Yessir JMO that Moore is the better of three, which means about as much as the opinions of those who believe Flynn would be some kind of upgrade for us at QB.

Well, that is the nice thing about having Moore, if Flynn is signed, and sucks, we have a solid plan B, if Flynn is not signed, then we have a good option at Qb if we draft a Qb

Persomally I'd draft a Qb, or maybe roll up on Colt McCoy whose fallen out of favor in Cleveland

\simple really, one has played 25 games the other 2, so at this point in time, Moore is better.

Which does not mean Flynn cannot be better then moore, rather at this moment, he is not better.

And based on 'only his second game' we've decided he's worth the draft picks and salary he'll likely demand to get him ?? I guess that is what is trying to be brought out. Sure, he may be the next Aaron Rodgers, but he may also be the next AJ Feeley... We won't know unless we go after him, but the cost is going to be very, very high...I hope they are SURE that he'll won't be the latter if they get him..

Until he is traded though, he's going to count very high against the cap. You cannot trade someone who isn't under contract, so merely tagging them does not give you the right to trade them. They need to sign first.
Also, someone posted the new CBA has tightened up the rules on tagging and trading, since that was not ever in the spirit in which the Franchise or Transition tags were intended.

I had read recently that he was looking for a contract in the Kolb range when he becomes a free agent. I certainly don't have any inside information on exactly what he is looking to get in salary or years, but you have to suspect that he will want at least as much as Kolb is receiving from the Cardinals. If he is looking for less, great, especially if he signs with the Dolphins. I just suspect though that since he appears to be the hottest free agent QB right now and with several teams looking to upgrade their QB position, ten to twelve million a year to sign him is probably what it is going to take.

How many games has Henne started compared to Moore? Based solely on starts alone would we be correct to assume the better of two QB`s ? I`m not saying Flynn is better but right now we honestly dont know.

I said "a CHANCE at a franchise QB". I think there's A CHANCE Flynn could be a franchise QB. Of course none of us know, and Philbin's view means a lot, but you seemed to prefer taking a good TE instead of trying a QB that has a chance at being a franchise QB. That part I don't understand.

No where was the term in the long run used Fin D, speaking today..right now..MMoore is clearly better.

5 yrs from now, no one can say, right now, it can be said.

And Henne does fit the WCO, which is an interesting thought really, his short and intermediate accuracy is what the WCO requires.

I just happen to feel much more comfortable taking a proven talent in Finley, than taking a chance of paying a QB over ten million dollars a year, who may or may not be an effective long term starter in the NFL. Right now you know what you are getting with Finley who has played at an all pro level in his time in the NFL. Flynn on the other hand is still a huge risk, which the Dolphins will have to pay a great deal of money to in an attempt to find out if he can be their long term answer at the QB position.

Hopefully Philbin already knows if he has a strong conviction one way or the other on Flynn. As the head coach, if he is willing to risk his job security on Flynn, I certainly have no problem with this. Because he would at least be showing that he has total faith in Flynn's ability to be the QB to lead the team next year and in the years following. I think we all have to wait and see how this whole QB scenario turns out and whether or not Philbin has the same faith in Flynn as some on here seem to have.

Signing a proven player like Finley makes perfect sense to me, while paying an unproven QB tens of millions of dollars in hopes he is the answer is very risky as far as I am concerned. What I would do is obviously not important because I don't make the player personnel decisions for the Dolphins. I hope if the Dolphins do sign Flynn that he is the franchise QB we all want him to be. I would just have a very difficult time seeing the Dolphins spend those millions on a player who has started exactly 2 regular season games since he came into the NFL.

As long as there's an out clause and it doesn't put us in cap hell, I can't ever see a scenario where you take a TE instead of trying to find a franchise QB. At this point, Flynn is the equivalent to a 1st rd pick but has NFL experience.

Padre, Henne could also flourish on my grandsons peewee football team. Unfortunately for Henne, he has about as much chance of being a member of the Miami Dolphins next year as he does my grandsons football team. Perhaps one of the teams which runs a WCO will pick up Henne, and we can all see if he can actually be a successful QB in this type of offense.

I just don't see the Dolphins going out and hiring a new HC, just so they can bring Henne back to be the QB.

That's all true, but I just doubt they will spend 4 yrs developing the guy and just let him walk without getting something in return. The GB personnel guys are the class of the league imho at what they do...saying that they will find a way to get something for Flynn versus nothing isn't exactly a wild guess...

Aside from that, IF there is some way to get it done by GB where they end up getting something for him, it'll be done quickly...just because of the tag process and the changes in the new CBA... Now they have other issues besides Flynn, and that will play a part, but would make this come down and get done quickly, maybe within the first few days of FA...

I don't know how it'll shake out, but there is a way that they get something for him. He's not going to be a FA...and if they let him go, then I'd worry even more that he's not ready or going to be the next great QB...

I understand you want Flynn and you don't agree with my thinking in this matter. If the Dolphins head coach and the front office feel as strongly about Flynn as you do. I am sure they will make every effort to secure him in a trade or in free agency. Until I actually hear from from Philbin that he wants Flynn on the Dolphins, it is merely speculation that Philbin is convinced that Flynn is the QB you assume he is.

I have not heard one single member of the Dolphins make a comment in regards to Flynn, positive or negative. I know what I have seen in Finley as the Packers TE and I have seen enough to know he would certainly upgrade this position on the Dolphins. As far as Flynn is concerned, I'll wait to see if the Dolphins are even interested in him as a QB before jumping on the Flynn bandwagon. You know there is always the chance that Philbin might not be that high on Flynn and he just might think that it would be better to go with Moore next year, while drafting and grooming a young QB for the future.

We all just have wait and see how this QB issue works out over the coming months.

Pads, I agree with you on Henne except for one thing...isn't a lack of mobility the difference between the QBs that have issues running the WCO versus the the ones that have that mobility ?? Henne may not be the stick in the mud that many believe him to be, but he's not exactly Mike Vick either...

Doesn't the Franchise tag guarantee a player a contract in the range of the top 5 players at that position in the NFL? I just can't see Green Bay committing to that kind of contract with the kind of money they already tied up in Rogers. I know chances are they could and would trade him when the chance arises but what if they couldn't make the trade for some reason. That would tie up a lot of their cap space in two quarterbacks.
If Miami ends up with Flynn I wont be unhappy because I am pretty sure we won't get a chance to get Luck or RGIII and Flynn is no more of a risk than any of the other quarterbacks left in the draft. If we sign him as a free agent thats an extra because that means the 8th or 9th pick can be used for another position of need.

Henne can run a little bit, Moore can run really well, but neither is a Newton/Young style of running threat

Real test will be throwing slants and running screens, this is one of the reasons why I think this will be a rebuidling yr, we have the wrong personnel to effectively run the WCO imo

Heck, if your talking about signing a healthy Peyton Manning in free agency rather than signing Finley, I would go for Manning in a nano second. Since the discussion you and I have been having is in regards to Finley and Flynn, I am just more sold on Finley as a starter in the NFL than I am on Flynn.

If I knew for sure that Flynn was a franchise type QB, I would not have even mentioned the possibility of the Dolphins signing Finley instead of Flynn. I just have more faith at this time that Finley could come right in and be an upgrade for the Dolphins offense. I am not sure this is the case with Flynn and I am not sure that the Dolphins HC and the front office feel this way either.

I do agree that a top tier QB is the number one need for the Dolphins. The big question is, does Flynn have what it takes to be the top tier QB the Dolphins have been looking for since Marino retired?

The simple reality is that a new coach usually means new quarterback. I would doubt that Philibin is going to stake his first head coaching job on a player like Moore that he doesn't know. He knows Flynn, if we go and get him it means that Philibin likes him enough to risk his career as a HC on him, that says a lot. People stating Flynn or Moore are better than one another are just being silly, theres no way to know who is better, neither has established themselves in the NFL. I love when people make statements that have nothing whatsoever to back them up and act like anyone questioning them is dumb. Only time will tell if Moore is better than Flynn and as of now we have idea if we will even compete for Flynn. I hope if the Packers tag him that we take a pass on sending draft picks.

Henne improved his mobility in the pocket this year with Daboll. He seemed to have learned to avoid pressure for the most part, too bad our line was in shambles most of the year that led to him being put on IR. Not saying Henne is the answer or anything, just saying he did improve his pocket awareness this year, which QBs should do able by their third year starting in the league.
