Alright, so Bowles?? Look, if it came down to hiring either Jeff Fisher or Todd Boles, it's a no brainer - you have to go with Fisher. But, w/ Fisher out of the mix, and Cowher and Gruden not interested in working this year, who exactly are we going to hire that is going to get the fan base jazzed at this point. It's not that any of these guys might not be the next great coach or anything - it's possible, what I am saying is, if Ross ever really did want to go with Boles, here is his chance! It's not like the fan base can get any more disappointed than we are today, collectively. Wouldn't be the worst thing at this point, hire him, try to get a better QB if you can, and build off the 6-3 finish. Could end up being the best move yet?
Our defensive backs suckked this year and last and you want the guy in charge of them as your HC ? You have to be kidding me. Who is going to coach for him, the beer guys or aisle attendants ?
Just offering up a suggestion, that's all. We could do worse than our last three games this year. Sometimes, you have to take a chance on a guy .... which is what we'll be doing no mater what now, anyways. Are any of the other guys we're interviewing better? We don't know, that's the real point.
Sure you have to take a chance but on a guy that had one of the worst defensive backfields in the NFL ? Clean cut but you had to check him to see if he had a pulse. He did nothing but stand there the last three games and answer company lingo when asked questions.
He didn't make a good impression on me. Every time they showed him on TV, he was just staring at the field like Jim Caldwell.
IDK why but I like coaches like Bowles, they don't say too much but they leave a big impact on the team. Someone like Dungy or Joe Gibbs gets the respect from the rest of the team.
They sucked this year before they had adequate coaching, and then as the season progressed, they improved a lot
Boy, I hope we interview this Boles guy. He seems a bit of an enigma though, as I can't find any info on him.
I didn't think the DB's played that bad after the first few weeks. Vontae by season's end was playing very well, too. Great as a group? No, but not bad in today's NFL where 60% completion percentages by QBs is the norm. Of the group, I'm not saying I like Boles the best, I'm just saying, why not exactly over the rest of the field. Of the rest, I like Zimmer quite a bit, but in reality, who knows anything more about him than the others, including, of course, Boles.
You obviously never watched Tom Landry or Bud Grant. I'd love to have their clones coaching the team.
Though it was great that we finished the season with a 6-3 record, the picture is not so rosy because of that 6-3 record... 6 wins against teams that were no better than 0.500... 2 loses against teams that were not better than 0.500... and 1 loss against our only winning team in the last 9... Since Ross will not fire Ireland, IMO, we need to clean house on the coaches that allowed our 0-7 start this year, as well as our 4-4 in 2010, and 2-4 in 2009 start... Hey but this is just my opinion...
That's what I thought we were doing w/ Fisher, and I was fine with it. But now that Fisher is gone ... I mean, yeah, we could still do that, but I wouldn't feel as confident in whomever is cleaning that house.
we played 3 teams all year that ended with a winning record and lost all of those games and people want to keep part of this coaching staff and Moore I just don't understand
Sorry but I've been thinking of this topic all week. And some may think that this is hollow. Don't care. It is what it is......... I've been observing this game for DECADES. I've watched the Rooney rule come in and I think it's terrific. It places a prospect in an owners face. That's all it does. It's up to that guy to kill during the interview. Now I ask you to watch these men and then tell me why some got a job and some didn't. .......and finally. I dare say that a couple of those men couldn't inspire a room of reporters eat a bowl of wheaties much less lead a locker room. I don't want that guy leading our locker room.
If you think the presentation changes then you haven't been paying attention. .............and I don't know how you can't see the difference.
Bowles might just be the best man for the job. But his hiring won't sell season tickets so he has no chance.
Adam Schefter is replying that the Raiders just finished a 4 hour interview with Bowles....can't be good for him staying
Actually Ireland/Ross has interviewed several guys that are worthy. I like Philbin (not available until after GB is out of it and then there is the grieving process for him), Toub, Zimmer and there's also Chudzinski as well. All guys that are as qualified as Bowles. Seems like Zimmer is due for a second interview... I don't know if they will jump quickly or not now that the Fisher fiasco is over. Taht was such a bad PR incident, that jumping on someone quickly might look like desperation. On the other hand waiting may not only lose the candidate above they might want, but also will hinder that guy from retaining our assistants, as they will be looking around. I don't know the contract status of those guys, but the protocol, if they are still under contract is to let them interview for other positions.... It's a bit of a conundrum but not the end of the world either. Fisher made a lot of sense from the perspective of more butts in the seats and his experience, etc but that's water under the bridge now...
