He'll probably piss in it and we'll have to cover childrens' eyes. And the fish tank will forever be soiled. All in the parks inaugural season.

 sad thing is that this is not very far fetched IMO.

I'll give the team until July until a full implosion. Hope I'm wrong.

    That would be interesting.

I dare him to fight Stanton.

I'd take those reports with a grain of salt, he hasn't even thrown 92 consistently since the 2006 season if that (Fangraphs only go back to 2007 when he was throwing 91.7).

And even if those reports are true, it's one thing to throw 94 a few times on the sidelines it's another to consistently do it in a MLB game or to be able to hold that velocity during the season. The report sounds like a typical offseason story where Player X is in the best shape of his life or Pitcher Y learned a new pitch.

Does it matter? Point is, he's not throwing as soft as you guys thought. He'll come in to next season throwing around 92, which is fine.

I'd be shocked if he somehow gained velocity back as pitchers rarely do after a steady decline for the past 6 years. Again reportedly throwing 94 on the side is different than consistently being able to throw it in a game or being able to hold that velocity through a whole season. He hasn't thrown 92 MPH consistently in at least 6 years and now all of a sudden we're to believe he's got 4 MPH back on his fastball because he's training? Sorry but it's complete wishful thinking and just doesn't pass the smell test.

We're not asking him to throw 94, though. If you don't believe the reports, fine. My point is, he isn't going to be throwing as soft as you think he is. Barely touching 90? Please.

If Javir Vasquez, at the age of 35, can go from throwing 88 to 91 in the middle of the season, Zambrano, at the age of 30, can go from 90 to 92 in 4 months worth of training.

    What are the terms?

Javy Vasquez' situation was completely unique and incredibly rare. Z has been losing velocity steady for a while. He's not coming close to 94. 92 would be really really stretching it.

What makes you think he's going to gain velocity all of the sudden?

    I don't think he'll touch 94, but I don't see 92 as stretching it.

I think the change of scenary is going to help him a lot. I think he'll work harder for us than Chicago, so I see his work ethic increasing his velocity. He's only 30, and doesn't have any major injuries, either.

As for terms, I'm not sure. What's the most common one? Sig bet?

You can't compare two pitchers like that though. Randy Johnson was throwing 90 MPH at age 45, does that mean Tim Wakefield should be able to?

And again its one thing to throw 94 on the sidelines it's another to be able to throw it consistently during the game. I'm sure if you give Zambrano the ball and tell him to throw it as hard as he can he'd get it up to 94, sure. However I'm sure if you told Zambrano to throw the ball as hard as he can 90 times, he'd average about 90 MPH because that's his velocity averages have shown.

And if it's so easy to go from 90 mph to 92 mph in just 4 months of training why hasn't he done it in the past 6 years? Or why not just Zambrano why doesn't every pitcher that trains for 4 months gain velocity each year? It just doesn't work like that, especially as pitchers age and put more miles on their arms.

Change of scenery? He's been a Marlin for all of what 3 days now? You think he's magically going to start to throw harder than he ever has because of his work ethic between now and the start of the season? So I guess Zambrano wasn't motivated for the past 6 years with the Cubs and that's why his velocity was declining steadily each season? Come on now.

No Zambrano doesn't have any major injuries (although he hasn't thrown over 200 innings since he could almost throw 92 mph) but he had Dusty Baker as his manager when he was younger and threw tons of innings for a pitcher at his age. That's what many people attribute to his loss of velocity and effectiveness, his work load just caught up to him.

And again yes I would consider throwing on average 92 stretching it, he hasn't done it consistently for 6 years, while his velocity has been declining each year. The odds just aren't in your favor. But like you said I guess we'll see.

What indication has there been that Zambrano wasn't working hard in Chicago?

Yes they are. The current group is gone, and instead the Mermaids will be replaced by rhythmic gymnasts.

I couldn't give two sh*ts about the Manatees mainly because I always found them disturbing while dancing. Getting rid of the Mermaids is a travesty, though, especially for those that have season tickets right next to the dugout.

Anyways, Leo signed a 1yr/6mil deal, avoiding arbitration.

Heard the Marlins will be the new featured team on Showtime's "The Franchise" series. Between Ozzie, LoMo, Hanley and Reyes it should be interesting, hopefully it's not as dull as the Giants one was.

Cespedes' DR residency has been approved. Now waiting for MLB to approve him as a free agent.

his terrible average, 10/0 K to BB ratio and 1 homerun in the dominican playoffs have me worried. But not too much. Get him in the minors and make sure he doesnt flame out, if he starts lighting the world on fire, move him up.

Way too small of a sample size to be worried, added to the fact that he was playing competitive baseball for the first time in I don't even know how long (months perhaps?) so he wasn't exactly in playing shape.
