I'm not suggesting we walk away now, but if you've offered the guy $8 million plus, and the Exec. VP title and he still tells you he needs to think about it, then you need to seriously consider the fact that he might not really be all that interested in you and is waiting for a "better" offer.

If this drags into the weeknd, then it is conceivable he takes another year off, hoping for something "better" next year. I'd rather walk away with some dignity prior to that happening

  2. If I wanted Fisher I would leave my offer on the table and continue to negotiate his contract with him, if thats what this has been about. I would also hedge my bets and continue interviewing other perspective coaches. Once I came to terms with one of the others that I liked I might give Fisher one last chance to sign or I move on without him.

    This.

The man is making a major career decision and has options. A couple of days to mull it over is beyond reasonable. It's not really affecting our offseason or damaging either organization right now.

That is unless you were gung ho about Mularkey. Personally I did a little desk jig when Jacksonville hired him.

I'd rather have a coach who wouldn't want to go into a ready made situation. I can't be the only one either. I think its weird that so many people just assume Fisher or any coach would automatically want to go to a team that they don't have to do anything to be successful at.

There are people who'd rather make their own BBQ sauce than buy it off the shelf.

So what? It just means that money and personnel power don't mean as much to Fisher as to you. Also, how do you know that STL hasn't offered him the same thing?

Again, it's been half a week. Chill.

The Dolphins haven't stopped interviewing candidates since Fisher left. They pounced on Zimmer as soon as the Bengals lost their playoff game, no pun intended. They interviewed a mystery candidate. The Philbin and Toub interviews happened after Fisher's. They aren't exactly idle here.

Disagree. Many coaching legacies were built around successful and driven leaders at the QB position. Bill B went from bust and almost fired to NFL genius when Brady took over. Peyton Manning is proving to the be the GOAT after taking his team deep throughout the playoffs year after year, and then exposing the organization and coaching staff when he went down.

If I'm looking to coach in one place for the next decade, how could I cross out Indy with the assured future stability of the QB position? I'd much rather hedge my bet on building my team around proven leaders than Matt Moore and a the #9 overall.

I'm sure you've interviewed for jobs Des. Have you ever had a situation where you had two offers at once? I have, and at least for me, I knew right away which office I preferred. Now, I was willing to go to my lesser choice for a certain amount of money, but all things being equal I knew what I wanted.

I imagine Fisher does as well. I have no idea which team he prefers, but I guarantee he has a preference. And he might be willing to go to the other team for money or something else. I just imagine he has all that info by now. If he prefers STL to Miami but would come to Miami for the right money, then he ahs that offer on the table. And if Kroenke won't match, there isn;t much decision to make, unless he is willing to take less for sTL, which if he was, he already would've done so.

I'm not sure how what you said disagrees with me.

Brady wasn't already there when Billicheat took over.

The point I'm making is that I'd rather have a coach who likes a challenge than a situation where he simply has to stand there to be successful. And for all we know, Fisher is the same.

At this point I think Fisher is waiting on the Colts decision. If they fire Caldwell, which they absolutely should, I think that's the job Fisher wants. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Hmmph.... you just don't appreciate the finer things about desks
.... strong underpinnings, lots of beautiful curves, a number of nooks and crannies to explore and stick things into, and proud protuberances on the front to keep things at hand...

I am sure Fisher would take the Colts job if it comes open. There is probably nothing more he would love than to be in the same division as the Titans. There is obviously still a great deal of animosity toward Bud Adams by Fisher, at the way Fisher was fired after the 2010 season. Adams waited to fire Fisher until several weeks after the season, therefore not giving Fisher an opportunity to find a HC position in the NFL for this past season.

The Colts with Manning coming back, and Luck going to the team in the draft, is obviously a much better situation for an incoming coach, then the Dolphins or the Rams. If this is the reason Fisher is waiting to make a decision, I can certainly understand it.

Dude, this thread is about desk porn, stay on track man.

Waiting for a gig that he might not even be in line for is dangerous game for Fisher to play. He could end up leaving millions on the table.

When an employer interviews someone, and that person makes it clear by his delay in accepting the position that he is not interested in working with the employer's organization, but only in benefitting himself, a smart employer usually withdraws the offer.

Yeah. I'm just speculating the same as everyone but I think this is the exact reason we don't have a decision yet. It's ****ty for fans of both the Rams and Dolphins but I can't blame the guy. I'd do the same thing in his shoes. Plus I don't even really care one way or the other if we get Fisher. I'm completely indifferent, just impatient on a decision one way or the other.

Because there are usually hundreds of other qualified applicants. It's the same reason players get special treatment. The pool of qualified individuals is painfully finite in the NFL.

Don't know about that as there has really been zero speculation that Caldwell is going to be fired, although his situation really has been a product of the Polian's bad picks and they were fired. We're all impatient. But if he's really waiting on what the Colts might do, I'll really lose a lot of respect for him...

It might bother me, but I won't lose respect for him. How can I begrudge a guy for wanting the best job? Would any of us do any different if we had 3 jobs to choose from?
