I love the hard hitting reporting that's going on here. One writer is saying his source says Pujols is meeting with the Cardinals right now while another writer is saying that his source said they haven't met or talk with Pujols all day. Either it's time to get new sources or stop spreading rumors unless you can 100% confirm before reporting.

Next thing you know, the Yankees will swoop in and sign him. And no one will have seen it coming. The reporting is terrible.

bad news if you read between lines...

Reyes mentioned Gaby Sanchez, and Buster Olney is reporting that the "vibe" is that Pujols will return to St. Louis.

6 years to Wilson? What the heck is going on this offseason? For the best pitcher in the game I wouldn't go beyond 5 years...and Wilson is looking at 6 wherever he signs. I know you have to overspend in order to get who you covet but man alive...

Marlins are smart with NO-TRADE CLAUSE refusal to any and all, its total win/win.

If they land Pujols with ability to trade as needed, they can say to anyone else, listen we didnt offer a No-Trade to Albert Pujols.

If they dont land Pujols, they still can say, hey, we didnt even offer Pujols a NO TRADE clause.

stick to the guns and let the money and years, and supporting cast dictate the success. I like it.

Its fun to see this switch from Loria and his willingness to heavily put the money where the mouth is...so far so good if he keeps the details clean and tidy and nothing shaky or slimey mucks it up.

I can understand a team thats desperate for success, and keeping the offseason momentum going to cave and offer 6years.

Now, in general, I agree with your assessment over 6, but between Buerhle or Wilson, I would give Wilson 6 of the two.

However if these same teams - including the Marlins - would just step back from the arms side this year, and take a look at next years crop, many wouldnt budge from 5yrs max....but then again, each year some team breaks the bank so to speak and creates the ceiling/floor.

The question marks around Josh J. is a bigger concern in my mind.

You'd think the contract would be enough of a no trade clause as a team would be even stupider to trade for a player with a contract like that but yeah the Marlins absolutely should stick to their stance on no no trade clauses.

I want confirmation on the Pujols thing, but it definitely doesn’t sound good. I guess the Cards upping their offer did the trick.

Time to get some pitching. 6 years for CJ Wilson is silly but I guess we’re in silly season.

Any news on Josh Johnson, our opening day starter and arguably best pitcher in MLB?

I was thinking the same thing...thats the guy that you need a full clean bill of health on....(letting the Best Pitcher in MLB comment slide) without one, you may have to over invest in arms this offseason for sure and not be able to be better off waiting till next offseason crop of arms.

we shall see, but if they offer Fielder anything remotely close to what they offered Pujols, then that is a terrible deal.

He is a vastly inferior player to Pujols, and it is a damn shame that Pujols, after getting jerked around for 2 years, will go back to St. Louis, just because they merely stepped up in the 11th hour.

let me tell you, it will be a shock to the Marlins if Pujols goes back to St. Louis, because they merely came "close". They thought he was a done deal.

Peter Gammons BTW, still thinks that Pujols will sign with Miami. LOL

Somewhere..Pat Riley dusts off his Championship Belt.

I can't wait to see Pujols, Cardinals contract.

It better be 220 for 10.

Has it been said that Buehrle is down to 3 teams with the Marlins being one of them? Maybe he's the final part of the 3 part plan.

BTW, this "no trade clause" stuff..who cares. The contract itself was a no trade clause.

so, if the Marlins didn't bend on that for at least the first 3 years, and allow him a 2 year window before his 5-10 kicks in, then they are stupid.

I'm just a casual observer here, but I don't think the Marlins or Pujols were ever that serious about it. This had all the makings of a mutually beneficial smoke screen.

    Marlins offered Wilson 6 years.

Who is arguing that Josh Johnson is the best pitcher in baseball? I would LOVE to sign up for that debate.

Fielder is a HELL of a plan B: He won't get anywhere near what Albert will get, but will end up producing more over the life of the contract than Pujols will. I am willing to bet on that. Sign Fielder, trade Sanchez for a quality starter and possibly sign another, and the Marlins just had themselves one fantastic offseason, imo.

Its absurd. Especially given what is potentially down the pike. I wouldn't give six years to Lincecum, Kershaw, Cain, Verlander or any other top tier pitcher. I would be hard pressed to go five. But six for CJ Wilson? Egads.

I guess you have to make a splash and all of that but man alive, I think the Marlins, or any other team will regret that signing if it comes to pass.
