Just hit level 50 last night. I ended up taking most of my secondary perks in archery, so my character is not only a beast in hand-to-hand combat, but also a wicked sniper. It's a pretty lethal combination. I still have 2-3 perks that I'd like to take, including 1 in blocking and another 4 to 5 in archery.

I've completed the Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, College of Winterhold, and Companion questlines. All are useful, but the Thieves Guild quests give you several sets of armor, including the best looking unique armor in the game, and another set that gives you +50 carrying capacity. Likewise the Brotherhood missions give you a set that improves your one-handed weapons, muffles sound, and gives you +35% in bows. Pretty deadly.

I've also done all the Daedric missions, which I can only describe as pretty ... twisted.

A specific quest you may want to undertake, especially for those of you struggling to make money, is the No Stone Unturned quest ... eventually you get a perk that essentially turns every chest and jar you check into one that is loaded with gems. I've got probably 50 flawless diamonds sitting in my safe at Solitude and I've got well over 70,000 gold right now.

My favorite (and really least favorite) dungeons are the Dwemer dungeons. They're just so huge, and confusing. I have a love hate relationship with them. One, in particular (I won't spoil it), is impressive, and what you find at the end is even more impressive ...

    Anyone else found Blackreach yet?

I've got a ton of gems / rubies / diamonds, etc. What I haven't figured out yet is how do I turn these into cash? Just selling them to normal merchants? I've been struggling to find merchants who buy gems. I'm sure they're out there though. I haven't been too active in selling or buying.

Not so sad considering I redeemed credit card points and shipped a 19'' TV to my girlfriend's parents house in California so I can lock myself in her room and play undisturbed the week and a half we are there for Christmas.

I routinely travel for work and almost always bring my 360 or PS3 to the hotels I go to. I will even pick hotels based on what type of TV they have in the room.

Quick question for you. A lot of public WiFi networks require that you login via a webpage before it assigns you an ip address. Is there a way around that if you connect with your xbox?

Sometimes the 360 can connect even in those instances as if that page didn't exist. But in instances where the 360 can't bypass it you can set up the wireless network like normal then just go to more options (or advanced settings) and enter in you laptops MAC address where it says "alternate MAC address." The network will then use your laptop's connection to verify that your 360 can get online.

I have found that multi-player gaming online is terrible from most hotels though, at least games that need a good connection like CoD. Party chat and single player online games (like an online sports league/dynasty) it can handle though.

So here is my guy as of now:

    Level 28
    Magicka: 160
    Health: 220
    Stamina: 190

    Smith - 58 Steel, Dwarven
    Heavy Armor - 46 Jugg
    Block - 34 Shield Wall (2)
    2 Hand - 45 Barbarian
    1 Hand - 50 Armsman (3)
Archery - 43 Overdraw, Eagle Eye
    Light Armor - 26
Sneak - 69 Stealth (2), Backstab, Deadly Aim, Assassin's Blade
    Lockpicking - 32 Novice Locks
    Pickpocket - 16
    Speech - 29 Haggling
    Alchemy - 28 Alchemist
    Illusion - 34
    Conjur - 21
Destruction - 46 Novice, Aug Flames, Aug Frost
    Restoration - 35 Novice
    Alteration - 31
    Enchant 26 Enchanter

I have 3 unused perks. Since I really want to make dragon armor, they will probably go there.
As you can see, my character is sort of a jack of all trades. I made flawless Dwarven armor, boots, etc. My two handed weapon of choice is a honed ancient Nord greatsword of scorching. My one handed weapon is a Dwarven dagger that burns the target for 15 points and an ebony shield. When I go the magic route, I have the arch mage's robes, the mask of Morokei, and various amulets. My magicka regenerates at an insane rate. Sometimes when I am in my heavy armor I will forgo a helmet and wear the mask so I can heal myself often during battle.

My brother is playing, and is much further along than I am, and he said don't bother with smithing, because you can find every type of weapon eventually. I take it it goes the same with armour, or will I eventually have to make the better sets?

My smithing is pathetic. Oh yeah, I'm level 19 I think.

Yeah, but you can't improve armor or weapons without smithing. And smithing is fun.

To reply to Bickety's post, is there anyone playing that doesn't consider their character a "jack of all trades"? I guess my guy can't pickpocket worth a ****. And I've taken about 3 swings with a double handed weapon.

    I haven't pickpocketed a single person.

When I go toe to toe with an enemy, I prefer the two handed weapon. I use one handed for knifing people in the back :)

Doing the Thieves Guild missions will open up the fences for you, who eventually start to carry upwards of 4000 gold and will buy anything, including jewels.

This. I had to travel the first week the game was out and make sure my XBOX could be hooked up. Granted it was composite, but beggars can't be choosers ...

I've built my character in such a way that he's pretty much a straight up warrior. I've improved his archery to the point where I can now also assassinate from long range in addition to being pretty much unstoppable up close and personal.

I finished the Mage quests, but he's still completely deficient in magic. Which is okay because, outside of the shouts, I rarely use it anyway. Just give me a hand axe and a shield and I'm good.

I found a glass war axe which I've been using for a long time now. Perked up some extra bleeding damage and it gets the job done.

I'm curious how you fight dragons upclose? Specifically the certain dragon that you need a certain shout for... I just finished that part last night. Took a while to get the hang of it. Didn't help that I had the wrong shout readied.

looking at my character... My destruction is up to level 64, as a mage I'm all about range fighting anyway. Chain lightning is a nice spell to have. Firebolt... flaming... and then I have my healing in my left hand. I use that more than Quick Heal even though QH heals more. Just don't like the time delay in casting it. I haven't tried dual casting anything other than flame. Summoning a flame atronarch is a nice spell to have. Comes in handy. Those are the main spells I use. Wards are more of a pain in the ***. The buffs (stoneflesh, orcflesh) aren't used. And then I like to have potions available in my favorites menu for healing up if I'm really fighting a tough bastard. My archery is good. I've got a bow doing 25 damage, that can be enchanted for an extra 15 per in fire damage. The problem is finding good arrows.

Question on the conjuration spells. In oblivion you could summon dremora, wraiths daedra etc. But in this game it seems your options are, atronarch or zombie. Is this true?

I rarely use spells on Dragons, but I haven't dealt with the one you are referencing. I have about 8 dragon slays, including a few Blood Dragons. I fight them in "warrior mode". Heavy armor, and enchanted two handed weapon. The only spell I use is healing. I wait for the dragon to land and then bum rush it, hacking and slaying. If it won't land, I will put a few arrows into it until it does. Once it takes off, I heal up and wait for it to land again. I will also use a few healing potions is I am getting my *** kicked.

I tried to take out a dragon in Mage Mode and got my *** kicked. I do not like having no armor on and in order for me to fight them as a mage, I need my arch-mage robes on. My most powerful destruction spells are fireball and ice storm. That's probably my problem. They just don't cut it.

For an low level spell, conjure flame atronarch really comes in handy. So I definitely agree with you there. Even against tough opponents, they can distract them while you lay into them with the good stuff.

My strategy fighting dragons is to use a bow until the big bastard lands, and then I rush him with my axe and shield raised. Eventually they land. They always do.

Fighting one up close and personal is a challenge. You need some hefty armor, some sort of elemental protection, and you need to be able to finish him off quickly in 4 to 5 strikes.

Keep in mind I've taken nearly all the perks for blocking, one-handed, and light armor. My guy has been built to be a dragonslayer. Just to give you a rough idea, my Dragonscale armor gives me a rating of 807 with a 10% Health Restoration Enchantment and 33% additional one-handed damage. Using this setup my Daedric War Axe (Mjolnir) does 143 damage + additional bleed damage + additional 10 points shock damage with it ... I have found that most everything can be crushed with a combination of power bash followed up by a power strike, and yes that includes dragons.

Melee fighting a dragon also gives you what I've found to be the best finishing animation in the game thus far (though I have not yet slit anyone's throat). Though beheading someone with an axe is also immensely satisfying.

Good Lord. My best armor rating is 141! I have a ways to go.

I just took out a Frost Dragon with nothing but spells. It attacked me in the college courtyard. I used fireball and the pillars as cover. Took a while and I died a lot until I figured out how to use the cover. And when I finally did it, I realized my housecarl, Lydia, was a casualty of war. I have a soft spot for her, so I reloaded a prior save and did it again, making sure she didn't get hit with friendly fire while she was down on one knee. That is the only way a follower can die. It was a real pain in the *** to keep her out of the way while I was firing off fireballs at the dragon. And I can't even marry her. Maybe she will be up for a threesome when I get hitched

My guy is overpowered :( I like to try and do well withing game mechanics but it almost feels like cheating with this guy. Conjuration at 97 heavy in the 90s and 1 handed and smithing in the 90s with the Axe perks and dual wield...*summon Dremora Lord* slash slash slash things die with little or no challenge.. Wisp Mothers and some of the named Draugurs can give me a challenge but its rare. I wish I hadn't taken smithing otherwise it probably would have been balanced.

Lydia died in my game during my first Companions quest. I had to take on a Falmer High Lord and Dwarven Centurion.

    I was level 5.

My character still mourns her loss in battle.

When a follower's health reaches 0, they take knee until it starts to regenerate. They won't die at the hands of an enemy. But if you happen to accidentally strike them or hit them with splash damage from a spell while they are in a downed state, they are sent to the great beyond.

When I know I am going to enter a major fight (like a boss fight at the end of a dungeon), I tell her to sit her *** down far away from where I am going to be. Otherwise she just gets in the way and end up dead.

I made the dude from Morthol that I had to fist fight to follow me take a dirt nap in the first dungeon. He's the only follower I had besides a stupid dog. I wouldn't have minded if the thing didn't keep barking all the time.

Question for the masses: If you give a follower better armor and weapons, can you make them equip it? I wasn't able to figure that out.

Followers are slightly bugged...they don't level after you first meet them their skills go up but they don't gain Hit Points...So you should probably retire them after 10 levels or so and move to your next housecarl or whatever as you buy houses..on the PC version you can fix it but not on the consoles...hopefully they will patch it.

Yeah, me neither on the dragons and from what others have told me in this thread, I think that's a good thing. I want to finish the magicians guild, thieves, companions, dark brotherhood and civil war quest lines before I start ****in' with dragons. Playing this game as the A.D.D. person I am is hard enough without having dragons swooping down on me while I try and finish up quests.
