Vader was such a badass that the guy who was actually in the Vader suit (Welsh bodybuilder David Prowse) had a complex about it the rest of his life. And James Earl Jones won an Emmy, won a Tony, has been nominated for Academy Awards, and is one of the most accomplished and well-respected actors of his generation...and all anyone wants to hear is the Darth Vader voice. (A point he lamented a bit when I heard him speak at my alma mater.) All hail Lord Vader, the SUPREME Badass!
If we wanna talk awards, Russel Crowe won best actor in a leading role as Maximus WIN The movie also won oscars for Best Picture, Best Costume Design, Best Effects, Best Sound. Now i KNOW starwars won multiple oscars as well.....but when it doesnt win 'best picture' darth vader is not a supreme badass.......maximus....lead his movie to VICTORY... Regardless, its a moot point to be arguing this right now....so im stopping HAHAHA...seriously, vader won, bye 1 point, i will end up drinking myself to a few day coma if i continuily try to defend a damn movie character Congrats Vader
I personally would have like to have seen a Maximus vs. William Wallace (or) King Leonidas championship matchup.
Good to see the Dark Lord of the Sith taking the mantle. After all, how can you swing a sword at him when you're suspended and choking in midair? Star Wars was nominated for a Best Picture but the Academy got a boner over Woody Allen for some reason.
The William Wallace fan boys are way off. He got a good seed..and got defeated just where he deserved to be defeated.
I came into this so late, and just the championship round was awesome enough. Everyone love the thread. What's next Sec? Super Heroes? Side Kicks? Female Badass?
Give me some direction and we'll get something going next week. (We can't do female badasses, because we had a few females in this tourney..and they would obviously win (the bride, Ripley) Did you see the results of this tourney? it came down pretty good...thephins.com posters are pretty good..except for that Rocky / Tony Soprano upset....I am still a little sore about that one.
Yeah, I dug back and read the round by round results, looked like a lot of fun from the beginning. If I get anymore ideas I'll be sure to post here. Hopefully everyone else has some good ones too. Thanks again for the great thread. EDIT: If you modified it slightly to something like sexiest badass it could work.
Just my opinion but I like the superhero idea. I think we could end up with some suprising results. A villian poll though I don't think would be too bad either, like a whose the best villian, just keep darth vader out of it.......
There are a lot of great villains, so that would help fill the field. Superhero would be interesting, even if it was a bit predictable. Maybe modify that as well, best superhero costume, cartoon character, or split it up between Super Villain and Super Hero brackets. I think this tournament worked great because it may have turned out much different if it was Greatest, Best Fighter, or Toughest. I like Vader a lot more than I like Maximus, but Maximus was just more "badass." So Superman or Batman wouldn't necessarily win if it was modified by Smartest, Coolest, or even most Badass Super Hero.
coolest superhero would work for me, or coolest comic villian, overall villian, movie villian, I guess we would have to narrow it down?
I think we all know who hisn would vote for........ That might be cool maybe we could include example clips of the comedians? Should make for great debate...
my two earlier suggestions were: Superhero vs. Supervillain (all comic book characters...Marvel & DC comics...good (left side) vs. evil (right side) of the bracket) or Marvel characters vs. DC characters (matched up against each other according to similar powers/attributes)
I have my favorites, but I think that could work. There certainly wouldn't be an odds on favorite to win. But, having said that we all know who the greatest is.
bane vs batman doomsday vs superman or the joker vs batman I guess itd have to be greatest rivalry? carnage vs venom venom vs spiderman. Alot of good combinations........ wolverine vs sabertooth........ I'll stop now but I like that one...
The comedians one isn't a bad idea. I was thinking a best rock n roll/hard rock band. But I'm not sure if we aren't a little too subjective when it comes to music and our favorite bands.
Pryor, Lenny Bruce, Dane Cook.... er maybe we could open it up to not just stand ups but greatest comic performer. Would be a shame to ignore Peter Sellers, Bill Murray, or John Belushi. (I can't believe I originally wrote Jim.)
k-9 cop <---- greatest movie evar Thats true though you bring up a good point..... Would definately make the choice tougher.......
