So here's a question for you draft experts out there. Where is Jacory Harris' draft stock right now? When he burst onto the scene as a freshman there were some people (even some pretty well-respected posters around here) touting him as a 1st round prospect. I never saw that from him with his slight frame and lack of arm strength, but nonetheless I believe even Mel Kiper was talking about him a bit. Obviously things went south for Harris over the next couple of years, but he's quietly putting up a heck of a year under Jed Fisch in his pro style offense. He's currently 6th in the nation in passing effciency behind Russell Wilson, Case Keenum, Robert Griffen III, Kellen Moore, and Andrew Luck. That's a pretty good list to be on considering all of those guys will most likely be drafted and at least half of them will probably be taken fairly early. Now I've seen all of his games and while he has had a great year I don't see him as any kind of elite prospect, but I was curious to see just where the experts around here had him slotted and what they thought about him as a pro prospect. Thanks in advance.
I would sign him for sure though and just use him as basically a RB in the Wildcat. These guys are an untapped resource. They are extremely athletic cost little and can be used as a specialist like Brad Smith but they are so inexpensive and a good jump start to teams. LSU uses Jefferson. He'd be very useful as well, in fact I might just go get him.
I'm looking at Tim Tebow right now and how difficult it was for Oakland to stop the option with him there. How nice would it be to spend just a seventh round pick and be able to completely befuddle teams by throwing in a mobile quarterback that can simply just alter your entire playbook, forcing teams to spend practice time preparing for both offenses. It's a big play magnet when you need it just like it was for LSU against Alabama except we get to spent almost nothing while Denver has convulsions over whether or not Tebow is a franchise QB.
I'm a big believer, Jaj. The Pat White experiment failed but it doesn't mean the theory behind it was unsound.
Have you guys watched him play? He's not very fast or elusive at all and he's so skinny he'd get killed if he had to run between the tackles. Or past the LOS without sliding for that matter.
Well, imo, Jacory's NFL Draft stock is not very good, as in most likely a 7th/UDFA type. To me, if given the chance he should give the CFL a shot, his game sort of fits what they like to do up there and more reps in games equals more improvement as a Qb, he has the physical talent, but is inconsistent and Shannon did not help him very much at all.
I have watched and often times if you train to be a running back and a quarterback it's a little different. Daniel Thomas didn't quite look like this as a JUCO quarterback. There's some difference in training. I will say this though what Disgustipate and I are talking about are the four-five athletic QBs that get washed out of the league every year: -------> There are those that are expensive (first five rounds) that are trying to prove they are QBs -------> There are the athletic guys that just don't have it but would be useful (Harris, Tyrod Taylor etc...) Of those guys there's some potential to be had. The Pat White experiment would have been phenomenal if it was for just a fifth-seventh round pick where you wouldn't care. Disgustipate out of the current croup coming out with Manuel, Harris, and the like which one of these guys look to you like a candidate? Or do you have some faith perhaps in a different type, the run-pass option time like a Harnish from Northern Illinois?
I don't really watch college football nearly enough to have a qualified opinion. I kinda watch it if it's on a TV, I let pro football take up too much of my time as it is lol.
And a good downfield arm, his problems have been: -being a Qb, I always get the impression that he could fumble the snap -throwing the ball up for grabs, that just has not went away -someone get that man some biscuits or something, my goodness is he gaunt. I like his game but view him like Tavarris James, a good talent who was not developed.
Not much though, and imo he is our best Qb since Dorsey, but Dorsey had better coaching. When I think of how great our Qb play used to be, then think of Costa, White, Wright, I'm glad Jacory is the Qb and would like to see his career move forward at the pro level, however imo he is not a NFL talent..yet. One of the reasons why I mention the CFL is he would have plenty of opportunities to throw the ball #2 Qb in the CFL..583 attempts #1 Qb in the CFL..654 attempts If a Qb has that many attempts, at the pro level, they will show what they can do, and that is the chance I'd like to see him have.
6-4, 245 and he runs a 4.6? Not bad, but he's not durable like Tebow. Jefferson is pretty athletic and a good runner. Tyrod Taylor was probably the best out of them.
That would make sense if Jacory Harris could actually run and was extremely athletic and wouldn't get broke in half by NFL defenders.
Well that's the point, who are the athletic dual-threats that are inexpensive coming out. They need to be durable, be able to hit a very easy deep ball, and be fast/strong. Terelle Pryor was perfect but too expensive. Tyrod Taylor was ideal. Jordan Jefferson?
Actually, Jacory doesn't have the physical talent, which is why his draft stock is so low. This year proves to NFL teams that Jacory can be developed from a decision making standpoint. He's checking down. He's throwing away. He didn't do any of that last year. But he still throws late. He still launches balls deep into double coverage. At the next level, he probably won't have a 6'6" WR to bail him out on many of them though. He's an accurate QB. However, the physical talent isn't there. He needs to put on 30 lbs. His arm strength is below average. He doesn't offer much as a runner though will pick up yards if there's nothing there or the pocket breaks down. He does have the pro style offense going for him though, with a lot of WCO in it. I like him a lot as a developmental QB in the 6th/7th.
Jordan Jefferson shouldn't cost much. Denard Robinson is flat out explosive. EJ Manuel, Darren Thomas. All juniors though. Chandler Harnish is a guy I like. He's a senior. The kid from Tulsa who's name escapes me. (edit - GJ Kinne)
He was 170 lbs soak and wet out of high school. He's up to 195 now. Needs to get to at least 220 though.
Yea Manuel is a JR and is not coming out. Also IMO he will be expensive in next years draft. I see him read the defense and make a lot of pro ready throws. EJ has to progress and cut down on dumb throws, but I think he will.
Funny, I heard all of that about this year. Manuel is not very good and won't be a high draft pick when he comes out. And to top it off, he loses a lot of value as a potential WC QB because he's never healthy.
Hes never healthy? Because he had a separated non throwing shoulder? Thats a freak injury. Also, he HAS progressed from last year, what are you saying? He is a much better QB then last year. Honestly if he had not gotten hurt I think people would be talking about him as a possible high draft choice this year. With 1 year starting under his belt. Not sure how much you have watched Manuel play, but he is not your average "athletic black QB" prospect people seem to project him as. He is a QB in a pro style offense which a bad OL and not many weapons. Manuel drops back and will read defenses and pick them apart. He is very accurate and has good ball placement. Every once in a while he has a bone headed throw. It is not something that would keep him from getting drafted high. Most of his runs are designed runs, he is not the one read and run QB.
I just don't see Harris as being that kind of player. You mention in another post he runs a 4.6, but I can't see any way that that's true. I'd be shocked if he actually ran any faster than a 4.8. He's run a little more this year, but he just doesn't look very athletic in the open field and is much more of a pocket passer than a dual threat guy. The 'Canes have even developed a package that gets Stephen Morris in the game to threaten defenses with his feet as well as his arm. And after all of that I just don't see Harris as having the frame to take any kind of pounding in the NFL.
Manuel is always suffering from little nagging injuries, not unlike Ponder. He's progressed from last year, but MUCH better is quite the overstatement. He's the same exact QB, only difference is he's playing more since Ponder is gone. Manuel is what he is, which is exactly what you claim he isn't, he's the "average athletic black QB." And I'd hardly call him a pro style QB. Even though FSU technically runs a pro style offense, the times he actually takes a snap from under center, and goes through his reads are few and far between. Lots of read option, speed option. Lots of roll outs. Lots of QB dive, sweeps, and draws. Lots of shotgun. And when he does take snaps from center, he usually hits his first read, or it's a bubble/jailbreak screen to a WR which Jimbo uses a lot. He's a far cry from the elite Cam Newton talent delusiNole fans were telling me he was pre season.
If Josh Portis and Scott Tolzien can get serious looks from NFL teams, I believe Jacory Harris will get a look as well. Yeah his 145 pound frame is quite small but with the right kind of steroids at the next level he will be ok.
5, but he would be a FA signing, BC's current Qb, Travis Lulay matches up well with the last CFL Qb to make the jump to the NFL and have huge success, Jeff Garcia, both were 28 and coming off of Most Outstanding Player seasons also for Wally Buono. Jacory lands in BC consider it AAA MLB.
I don't know if you told me a guy with his senior year stats with good physical tools outside of weight was available, I'd be interested for a seventh round pick. Weight? You'd think that's the one thing a NFL team could add. I don't think he lacks arm strength compared to the top guys either. I'm far more interested in any development as far as reading defenses.
