Bah, that sux. So is this included in what the Pats already copped to? Or are they saying it's more? I didn't want to register to read the full article.

I want to see the Patriots get screwed just as much as the next guy but if Walsh is already changing his story his credability is shot IMHO. What did he think he had the Rams SB walk through tape but suddenly remembered he didn't? Strange!

I'm so sick of hearing about Walsh's allegations with no substance I'd like to see Godell step up and tell Walsh that if he has something he has to show him by a specific date or he won't acknowledge it. That would piss a lot of non Pats fans off but it would force Walsh to **** or get off the pot.

We can't say much without knowing the precise content of the eight tapes, but right now, this sounds like good news for the Patriots and Belichick. If all Walsh can show is what we already knew -- that the Patriots were taping opponents in violation of league rules -- the NFL is unlikely to tack on additional discipline.

Sucks if true I was hoping for a big punishment.

Well if any good comes out of this is we may finally get to see to what extent they cheated. From the sounds of it, seems like this will really call into question any mention of a Dynasty at all. Makes we feel all warm and tingly inside.

    Marino

Boy did the Pats catch on to Marino near the end of his career. Do you remember how many routes their corners jumped in the hurry up offense. It sure looked like they know our signals, now we KNOW they knew our signals. Remember we missed the playoffs by one game. That could have been the super bowl Danny never won. The difference between him being considered the GOAT and a goat.

What Walsh has is pretty bad for the Patriots, but you have to wonder... where did the Rams allegations come from? If Walsh doesn't have footage of that, how did word leak that he does? Who's responsible for that?

I'm sure that what Walsh has or doesn't have is highly dependent on the amount of money Kraft has or hasn't deposited in a Cayman bank for him.

If there WERE a tape of the SB I suspect Roger GoodHell would likely find a way to make it disappear so his buddy Kraft wouldn't have to suffer any more.

First off, Walsh claims to never have said it had the walk-thru tapes of the Rams, that was the Boston Herald's report.

After reading the article, which doesn't tell much since all that has happened is that he's just sent the 8 tapes to the league, this appears to be a non-issue..the whole she-bang is nothing more than what we already know. If Bellichick told the Commish he had taped teams since he arrived at the Pats, then this all is rehash of what they already know. If he has told the Commish that he didn't use the tapes for stealing signals or that he never videoed beyond 2006 then there may be some issues with the Commish..but it appears that he has no startling news here...just a rehash of what we already knew...that BB and crew cheated...

All part of Goodell's coverup. No one but the NFL knows what Bill admitted to, yet the world knows what Walsh is bringing to the table? Mark my words, Goodell will protect NE and Kraft by saying that they had already admitted to these tapings and no further penalties will be imposed.

Isn't that the truth. I'll never forget the play where Bruschi, I think in his rookie year, stood completely still on one spot of the field and picked off a Marino pass because he knew where the play was going before Marino threw it. But I think that had more to do with Keith Byars treachery than illegal taping. I think that happened before Belicheat was at the helm. Still cheating though.

**** the Patriots. This whole thing smells like a cover up. Walsh had the tap of the SB walkthrough and was paid off by someone to "not have it" anymore.:pity::tantrum:

Sorry as much as I hate this entire situation, the Commisioner for letting it happen and the ENTIRE Cheatriots organization for making it happen, that last statement just isnt true.

This is where the Media has created something out of nothing.
It was reported by "An unkown source" that he Cheatriots had taped the walk-through.
Walsh committed to having footage of them cheating shortly after but NEVER mentioned the walk-through.
The Media of course put 1 and 2 together and came up with 4..like is too often the case. :wink2:

Another important part of this is that Sen. Specter is going to meet with Walsh. I don't think that he's going to let any kind of "deal" between Goodell and Kraft happen. Specter, in this case, is a sort of check to make sure that nobody gets any special treatment.

Also, I'd have to go back to the reports, but I was thinking that the punishment to Belichick and the Patriots was from a single incident (the Jets game). If that's true, then these tapes show that this was not an isolated incident, and shows more of a business-as-usual approach to cheating.

It was business as usual, but it was included as part of BB's punishment already. The tapes that were just turned over were nothing new, and Goodell already destroyed any other tapes at the Pat's facility that could be used against them - with no record of what or how much was destroyed, even though the NFL investigators had to have gone through them and watched them. This sort of back scratching bull**** won't taint the game unless we, the fans, continue to harp on it and spread as much noise around it to force the NFL to actually take harsher disciplinary steps.

Senator Spectator will be the check on this, and Goodell has to be fuming becuase now EVERYBODY is going to get a chance to see exactly what he so hastily tried to brush under the carpet.
I think that Goodell actually has the most to lose in this debacle, and if he comes out looking bad (Which I do think is very realistic) the Cheatriots are sure to continue to pay. Will it ever be just? Is ANY punishiment for any crime really "JUST"...I dont think so either.

The Patriots have to live with the fact that their superbowl wins are tarnished......we know it, their players know it, and so do their fans. That is why they get so upset about the Commish and Specter. They try to deflect any criticism of the team, and say "everyone tapes signals." They got caught with their hands in the cookie jar, and now they have to live knowing their championships are NOT legit. At least you can say the Manning brothers earned their rings in Indy and NY, and Big Ben earned his in Pittsburgh, but everyone knows the Pats cheat, and that is something they have to live with. Enjoy it you Cheaters.

Call me cynical but considering the speed of the judgment and punishment, the lack of detailed information on the crimes and the delay in getting additional information from important sources who were never questioned hardly leaves me with a feeling of resolution despite what the NFL and all the talking heads say on TV. Goodall did everything in his power to cover this mess up and I believe we will never know the truth as a result of his actions. If the Patriots were taping AFC Championship games why would I not believe they did the same for SuperBowls with or without evidence. Is anyone actually sitting out there saying "well they only did it for that game" and taking themselves seriously?

First of all, on the interception by Bruschi because he "knew" where the play was going before Marino did...BS. MARINO threw the ball there. A QB shouldn't throw a ball where a defender can get it. I don't care if Bruschi had that play on paper the night before, it doesn't mean that he's going to get an interception every time they run it.

Secondly, the only thing the Pats did illegally was taping from the SIDELINES. Teams can tape from the booth...hell, every team has people on the sidelines who are trying to read the opposing coaches lips, hence they almost always cover their mouths in some way when calling in the plays.

Thirdly, how long have we historically split the season series with the Pats, even when we didn't have a team as good as them? I mean, really, if stealing our signals was that great of an advantage, we shouldn't have won a game against them since BB got there.

I hate the Pats as much as the next guy, but, I think alot of this is being blown out of proportion, and is just sour apples from fans of other teams.

the media is they are buying into this hook line and sinker they believe that everything has been uncovered and everyone should move on

the fact is no one knows what is destroyed the only people that know what was destroyed is goodell/belicheck and kraft

i am not a conspiracy theorist but i think goodell got a hold of something that could have seriously damaged the nfls reputation and that could have put some shadow and some doubt on the NFL

so he took steps to destroy the evidence and now he is putting up a front to look like he is doing something but he isnt going to do anything he had to hide this

i mean these tapes go from 2000-2002 i mean they didnt just stop this after 2002 and pick it up again in 2007 there is missnig info from 2003-2006 and this punishment doesnt do **** for 7 years of cheating i mean people are saying there is some sophisticated **** on the steeler championship tape

and also they were stealing offensive signals also where it was only thought to be defensive i mean there is still a lot of question and the answers may have went up in flames some months ago

Okay, just for the sake of debate, why did Goodell believe it to be serious enough to warrant forfeiting a 1st round draft pick? I mean, both Denver and San Fran won SBs by paying players under the table; yet they only forfeited mid round picks.

New England Stole Our Offensive Signals

    Just saw this:

Perhaps the surprise entry on the list of videotaping documents Walsh turned over to the league was tape No. 3, labeled "OFF Signals" from New England's game against the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 7, 2001. That is the only tape labeled as such on a copy of the list obtained by ESPN.com. Walsh's attorney, Michael Levy, confirmed it was the lone footage in Walsh's possession of offensive coaches' signaling from the sidelines.

"[It] contains shots of Miami's offensive coaches signaling Miami's offensive players, followed by a shot from the end zone camera of Miami's offensive play, followed by a shot of Miami's offensive coaches signaling Miami's offensive players for the next play, then edited to be followed by a shot of the subsequent Miami offensive play," Levy said of the tape. "And that pattern repeats throughout the entire tape, with occasional cuts to the scoreboard."

    Here's the whole thing:

I can't wait to hear about that, something that to my knowledge was never mentioned as an infraction. Will the punishment remain the same? We'll see just how much the NFL and the owners want this all to go away so they can go back to counting dollars.

    BLEDSOE, MCGINEST TALK ABOUT TAPES

In response to the recent disclosure that former Pats video employee Matt Walsh doesn’t have (and presumably never had) in his possession a tape of the Rams’ walk-through practice prior to Super Bowl XXXVI, a couple of former players expressed relief.

“I didn’t even know about a walkthrough,” linebacker Willie McGinest said. “We couldn’t win any games with any cameras on the field. It’s just players giving everything they got, playing hard. Whatever Matt Walsh does, I never really knew the guy, I never seen him when he was here. I never get involved in that.

“I just know the Super Bowls we won, it was all through hard work. A camera can’t defend, or tackle, or throw a pass, or kick a field goal, or do any of that. I know what it took to win every game, one game at a time. It’s definitely hard work and dedication.”

With all due respect, Willie’s being a little naive here

Lack of walkthrough tape will be anticlimactic conclusion to Spygate

So now that the shroud of mystery has been lifted and we know what Matt Walsh has on those tapes, I'm reminded of nothing more than what Gertrude Stein famously wrote of Oakland, and by that I don't mean the Raiders: "There's no there there.''

Just as I've presumed for a while now, the world's most notorious ex-New England Patriots video assistant never had in his possession the one thing that would have taken the Spygate story to a new level -- a tape of the Rams' Super Bowl walkthrough from February 2002. That leaves us with the question of why we had to wait three months to find out what we already knew?

The Patriots cheated by taping their opponents' coaching signals dating back to 2000. That's old news. Then Bill Belichick's team used that illegally gained material to crack its enemies' secret codes, and thereby better prepare to face them the next time. Check. We knew that too.
