If Vader wasn't voiced by James Earl Jones this would be no contest. Vader is a big ol softy in the long run.
Most of the Jedis sucked! He got his *** kicked by Obiwan in his prime. Vader was only great because he couldn't do anything as a Jedi so he became a Sith to get power. What a *****.
It was a fitting end unlike Vader getting fried and crying. Maximus getting stabbed and still fighting is way more bad ***.
You have something wrong with loving your son? Vader killed one of the most powerful people in the galaxy Maximus killed some whiney little whimp who shouldn't of had a chance against a real badass even if the real badass had both of his arms chopped off
Obi-Wan fights Vader to a draw then turns off his lightsaber and warns Vader that if Vader strikes him down he will become more powerful than Vader can know. Vader strikes down un-armed man only for un-armed man to become more powerful than Vader could know. *****! If Vader were really badass Puke would have joined the dark side, but Puke saw that he was as going to become as big a ***** as his dad and tried to commit suicide.
When Obi Wan kicked his *** Vader, at the time Anakin, was still weak. Obi Wan was the top of his abilities and Anakin was new to this whole Dark Side thing. Vader got his revenge later in life. And he became a Sith so he could have MORE power.
Didn't lose to Obi Wan? He struck Obi Wan down only to have Obi Wan become more powerful than Vader could possibly imagine? "Use the force Luke" anyone? When Maximus beats you, you stay dead, and you only lived when he showed mercy. There was no escaping. Vader lost to Dooku. 0-1 Vader finally beats Dooku, in a 2 against 1 match. 1-1 Vader lost to Obi Wan. 1-2 Obi Wan forfeited. 2-2 Vader lost a space fight against Luke and Han Solo. 2-3 Vader fights Luke to a draw. If his goal was to freeze Luke, or get him to join, he failed at both. Maximus never let his equals live just so they could help him fight the bigger guy. 2-3-1 Vader loses to Luke. 2-4-1 Vader sucker chucks the Emperor down a hole? That isn't a win. But I'll give it to you. 3-4-1. 3 wins? In an unfair fight, a forfeit, and a sucker chuck? 3-4-1 is not badass, just like 18-1 is not badass. Maximus is undefeated, Maximus is the 72 Dolphins.
And which one refused to kneel before the Emperor, and which one always responded "Yes, My Master" Who's the slave there?
I bet if you took young Obiwan he would have whooped Vaders ***. Hell where is Darth Mual at? He was more of a bad *** than Vader. But Vader turned out to be a big ol puss as time went on.
It's not Vader's fault that Maximus died in the first movie. Maybe if Maximus was more of a bad *** he would have lived longer.
Even a suckie Jedi is more bad ***, and tougher competition, than a bunch of barbarians with hammers and some Gladiators.
In alot of ways...they were similar.... Maximus was Rome's greatest general and followed Caesar's orders to enslave all of europe. Vader followed the emperors orders to enslave the universe. NEITHER was the mastermind of the "plan". Vader was the "face" of the Empire and it's head henchman. A field general in a sense...So was Maximus. They are more similar than they are different.
Dudes... Vader had that whole breathing problem... puffffffff Pfffwaaaaaaaaa puffffff pffffffwaaaaaaaaaa.. More like ASTHMA if you ask me! When I hear his voice, I expect him to say... THIS IS CNN!!... Commie News Network...
I dont think the movies are a fair depiction of the power of Vader. The games must be taken into account as well, Force wise. There were A LOT of powers that were used in the Prequels that weren't used in the Originals due to budget or tech or whatever. SO...that being said I stand by my previous statement that Vader would just Force push Maximus into a few spears and that'd be all she wrote. If your looking at what each character brings to the table, Vader's Force powers might seem unfair to a guy like Maximus but then again, Maximus' 'power' and victories all came against normal men, NOT JEDI's. Whether the Jedi's sucked or not, they used the force which Maximus' opponents never did, and Vader in the books and games, hunted them down and killed them. LUKE was also soundly defeated in Cloud City. Vader should've killed him but felt sorry for his son, bleeding and all messed up and offered him the chance to join him. The second time around, Vader only lost because he was already seeing that the Emperor was an idiot and his heart wasn't in it at all, especially against his son. The first fight BEFORE he became Vader, against Dooku, he was just a young punk who hadn't yet fought with his greatest asset...his HATRED. When he fought Obi-Wan later on, Obi was in his prime and Vader was new to the dark side....you saw how powerful he became once he got used to the dark side powers? Imagine how much more powerful he'd have become had he not fought Obi-Wan at that time but a little further down the line when he became adept. Second time around...the only reason Obi said he'd become more powerful is because he could communicate with Luke through the force from the 'otherside' and not be an old man 'in the way'...still be able to offer him advice and whatnot while dodging Vader's senses. All in all, it depends on your definition of what a BADASS is... IF you define it by who would win one on one with all powers granted to both parties...Vader wins. IF you define it on an even level of Human level powers vs. Human level powers, ie. just basic swordsmanship and no special powers, then Maximus would win.
Vader had to be played by 2 people voice/actor in the suit..........end thread....maximus is one person, and owned!!!!!
^^^ Vaders using the Force to make Hammer Dance Can Maxi Pad do that?? NOOOO its only good to stop the bleeding...even more of a puss
WRONG. It takes 2 people to make vader who he is......maximus is just 1 guy, and according to the people voting on this board, they are even.....making vader less of a badass because it takes two guys to do it.... If 2 guys beat up 50 people......they are awesome.....if 1 guy beats up 50 people.....thats amazing, and more badass....
COMMODUS: Your fame is well deserved, Spaniard. I don't think there has been a gladiator to match you, as for this young man (Commodus holding Lucius in front him) COMMUDUS (CONT.): he insists you are Hector reborn, or was it Hercules. Why doesn't the hero reveal himself and tell us all your real name. You do have a name...? MAXIMUS: My name is gladiator. Maximus slowly turns around and begins to walk back to the other gladiators. COMMODUS: How dare you show your back to me, SLAVE. You will remove your helmet and tell me your name... The Praetorian take a ready-stand, and the gladiators, without weapons, move forward ready to fight with Maximus. Maximus stops, takes a deep breath, removes his helmet, and turns to face Commodus. MAXIMUS: My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius. Commander of the armies of the North, general of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife, and I will have my vengeance in this life or the next.
Why did it take Vader 6 movies to finally tell the Emperor where to stick it? Maximus, because he is so badass, told Commodus where to stick it immediately. No "Yes my master."
Maximus removes his helmet, and as a slave tells the most powerful man in Rome that he is going to kill him, and he does. Darth Vader removes his helmet, he dies. But not before telling his son "You were right about me." What was his son right about? That his father still had good in him, that he wasn't such a badass afterall. MAXIMUS! MAXIMUS! MAXIMUS! MAXIMUS! MAXIMUS!
