Hi. I have a problem with my computer. Today I came from school and I found popups appearing all over my computer. I don't know if its a virus or what but its annoying as hell. I have a yellow icon appearing on the bottom right, looks like a yield sign. I also have a blue circle with question mark that alternates with a red X in it. Finally, does anyone know how to get rid of this?
Bring it to me @ work. That'll also be $89.99. Seriously though, download spybot and run it. Should take care of the problem.
LOL I was about to say... Lucky recommended the same thing. Is it Spybot 1.5.1 Search and Destroy? http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html?tag=lst-1&cdlPid=10804822
Yup, thats the one. Use this one too http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2007/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?cdlPid=10837062
Main reasons for Popups: 1. Porn surfing. 2. Porn downloading. 3. Porn streaming. 4. Porn subscription. So which was it?
LMFAO! Neither. LOL wth? I'll try again. I destroyed some of the processes or whatever they are called and now I have like six popups on the left that state the following: " Process Terminated: Resident terminated process because it was on black list." Am I doing this right lol?
Bro, that link is to a program called ad-aware. It's great for cleaning up your computer and removing popups, unwanted cookies and other crap. Also check out Webroots Windows Washer, I use it along with ad-aware and Symantec on almost a daily basis.
If you dont run your spyware and adware detector frequently you will fill your PC with garbage that will slow your PC down plus leave you vulnerable to the world. I run spybot and AVG and ad aware every day. They will each pick up stuff that the others miss. The new spybot will tell you when there is spyware that is about to be installed
Sorry to be repetitive guys but am I doing this right? I destroyed some of the processes or whatever they are called and now I have like six popups on the left that state the following: " Process Terminated: Resident terminated process because it was on black list."
Section's right. 9 times out of 10 I'll get a computer in for virus removal that has loads of porn history. Of course clicking random **** on myspace and downloading files you have no idea where they're from is the other causes. The best way to stay virus/spyware free is to only visit and download from sites you're familiar with.
I think it may have come from this random link that popped up. I clicked on it lol. I had to be a dummy.
Is that Clamwin the same thing as that adware and Spybot or no? Because this Spybot Search And Destroy is making my computer slow as heck.
Most scan process will slow your PC down to a crawl while they run, best option is just to let it run while you aren't trying to do anything with it, or like Byron said, just let it run overnight.
How does it compare to Avast? I went to avast over a year ago and the only problem I've had is when my brother downloaded an infected divx player from some site he was trying to watch 24 on. He has since been told that you don't ever, ever for the love of all that's good ever download anything from a site he doesn't know.
1. Unplug computer 2. Open window 3. Throw computer out window 4. Send me $40 for expert advice. 5. Go to Best Buy 6. Purchase new computer 7. Set up new computer 8. Download porn off of your roommates computer Follow these instructions and you'll never have any problems with those nasty pop-ups again.
As far as being a thorough scanner, nothing beats it. It can take hours (I'm talking 10+) to scan your computer because of how in depth it goes. It's not an A/V program in the sense that it won't protect you from a virus it will just remove it when you scan. Avast isn't too bad. I know there isn't a perfect A/V program, but when I've used it, it didn't detect enough. Not the worse choice though. I'm a big fan of using Trend's online scanner when you can't install a program but still have internet access. Also a fan of X-Cleaner. I could sit here and tell you the pro's and cons of a lot of software and name a lot more that I like. But it's always best to not have to use any of it because you're careful of the sites you surf. As far as an active antivirus program goes, I use and recommend Norton 360. It's got a lot of great features and most of the stuff it does is in the background and you'll never be aware it's doing anything.
Norton Anti-Virus? I used to have it and it did a good job of keeping viruses away. I just hope this Spybot can help. After it has scanned all problems, I use the adware correct?
It's a separate program than the Norton A/V. http://www.symantec.com/norton/products/overview.jsp?pcid=os&pvid=n3602 If you happen to get it, make sure you get the 2.0 version. A lot of bugs were fixed from the original one. It also includes Firefox support. (Which BTW, you better be using instead of IE, that alone will help keep crap off your computer).
Ooo. I use Safari. Does that cause hell? Btw sorry if I am asking so many questions, I am just trying my best to get rid of this so it doesn't occur again. Thanks for all the help guys.
One thing I learned when I first used the program, make sure you go into the preferences and set it to remove the virus, not just report it. Luckily it gives a list of infected files, but I was pretty ticked it took 8 hours and didn't remove anything. Not too familiar with Safari. You should be fine after you run those scans. They won't prevent it from happening again though because they don't provide real-time protection.
Thanks bro, really appreciate all the help you have given. I just have one last question. Do you recommend that I run the adware after the Spybot scan or is it basically the same thing?
