I'm rooting for wins, mainly because I mean that's what we do as fans and the Draft is too far away to watch the standings too closely. I really think it will be us and the Colts "battling it out" but either team could sneak a few wins in over the next couple of weeks and everything changes. There is a silver lining with each loss post Browns game that eases some of the usual sting a loss gives though.

Now with one game remaining, that is the time to look at Draft position. I wouldn't cheer for a loss to move from 17th to 13th as some do, but this particular situation is different from that. You have a heralded prospect and I don't believe we acquire him unless we own the first pick. Hard to tell for sure since it's likely we'll have a new GM, certainly don't see Irish doing it, but think if the #1 pick is for sale that enough teams will bid that chances aren't high your team wins out. No one drafted is a lock but if Luck performs well for 10+ years...

Being 0-15 makes the decision tougher but really, does it matter that much? Lions have already been the first to do it and is 1-15 really anything to gloat about? I've seen 1-15 already and 4-12, the 16 different starting QBs since Marino, the many years without a playoff appearance or win, the coaching carousel with false promises, last time Miami was in a Superbowl I was almost ready to come out of the womb... After 18 years or so of Dolphin football, I'm past caring too much about 0-16 to be honest, if it meant a good chance of seeing a bleeping playoff win. So yeah, in this situation where it is the last game and you know for sure that a loss gives you the pick and a win takes it away, I'd hope for a loss. It's sorta like one of those survival things, "how far would you go?", well this scenario would be enough to do the unthinkable. Losing in week 17 so we can get the best offensive lineman instead of the second best lineman? Nah, not enough. Losing week 17 so we can get the highest rated QB in years, the most important position and one we have lacked at, that's enough. Call me a fake fan and burn me at the stake, but my brain overrides my heart at that point. As others have said, our cheering has no effect on the game and players will still be trying so it's not relevant to the score anyway.

I know this is hypothetical but I think the Jets are eliminated from the playoff race by week 17, maybe my bias coming through. They do have a way of looking really bad and getting their stuff together, not sure they can do that this year though. Just from a SFL perspective you have to worry about both the Patriots and Jets not having anything to play for in our games, and our guys motivated against a rival that is not 100% in. Patriots could have seeding locked up and Jets could be eliminated from the hunt.

edit: Thinking on it some and remembering yelling at Cam to run, seeing Taylor and the other Phins so relieved after the game, and how I felt getting that one win... maybe I was originally too light on 0-16. The disappointment this season, along with other seasons, is making me angry at times and rash. That year there wasn't a QB compared to Peyton and we would have been the first to do it, so it's different but 0-16 is still tough. Hopefully if we're going be top 1 bad we can avoid the goose egg and still get the first pick, not second or third.

I think that Sanchez is in his 3rd full year in the NFL after starting one year of college. Personally, I am not ready to throw in the towel. However, I am also a believer that other QB's besides Brady, Manning, Brees and Rodgers are capable of quarterbacking a championship team. Eli Manning did it and I don't think he is great. Would I want someone like Rodgers or Brady? Who wouldn't?! But they are the exception and not the norm.

Thanks, heard some groans from your crowd during the early part of the game. Didn't know if that was directed at Sanchez, Shotty, or just overall frustration with the whole offense.

Still the Jets are a team that won't hessitate to make a move. They moved up to snag Sanchez and I honestly feel that they could make a move for Luck if they feel he could get them over the hump instead of Sanchez.

If we don't end up with the top pick who knows if we'll make a move up either. Depends on who's running the show.

Turner sucks as a head coach. The San Diego players are probably thinking, "Ryan is right."

The odds of this scenario are about the same as Miami being 10-5 and needing a win for playoff implications.

I don't think he meant to insult Norv. I think he meant to take a jab at their organization for not hiring him and he's been a successful coach thus far.

Reminds me of when a player says they are going to go out and beat so-and-so for not drafting them.

That being said he should have worded it better to make that point, if that was his point, who knows with him sometimes.

He has supreme confidence in himself. If someone asked him if he was coaching the Dolphins this year would they be winless, I am sure he would say that they would be a playoff contender. That's just the way he is.

Now does anyone here think that Turner's didn't absolutely choke in 2009? They were 13-3 and had a home playoff game (after a bye) against a rookie coach and QB. And they lost. Inexcusable. He should have been fired.

Well, I'm not embarrassed. The foot thing? Embarrassing. This? Not so much. Ryan's speaks his mind and it's not like what he said couldn't be true. Those were some very talented SD teams.

As for getting the Chargers players riled up, if this is what it takes to get a pro player to perform, then the sport is in serious trouble. If SD wins on Sunday it will because they have a better team (which I think they do), not because they got super powers in order to defend their coach's honor. I find that comical. Especially when the coach is Norv Turner.

1-15 or 0-16. The difference is minimal. Sport has a funny way of dealing with things. 0-15 going into last game, 0-16 would get Luck. Dolphins win the game. Let the wheeling and dealing begin!

    Actually....the difference is HUGE.

Its the same difference as when the Pats won every game except one...the Super Bowl. If they had won....they would have been the second team to have a perfect season. One loss....and no talk of perfection.

Going winless......we won one game a few seasons ago...but had we gone 0-17.....it would have been talked about in a much different light.

Yet all but two of those things happened during a timespan where the Jets were more successful than the Dolphins. More wins and more playoff appearances. I could make a list of misfortune twice as long for you guys and it would have all happened in the past decade. Or I could just start with the fact that you had one if the greatest QB's ever and couldn't win a championship with him.

Why? No one cares about the Lions 0-16 season anymore, they are on the up n up so its not an issue. That being said id rather not go 0-16on just because it will be ammo against those of us who boast about our perfect season.

  34. How as fans do we know if it is a big deal or not? Only the players and coaches decide if it is a big deal. IMO, you need to pay attention to your own players starting to talk. Didnt Dansby just say something about the FIns that went public?

Despite the fact that we are 0-5, we've been close in our games. The chances are not favorable that we are winless going into game 17. The next best thing to getting in the dance ourselves, would be knocking them out of a spot...any time you beat the jests, it's a good thing.

It's also unlikely that one win would mean the difference between getting the first pick and not. The most likely competition we'd have would be Denver and in that scenario, they would have already beaten us. However, I just find it hard to not root for our team to win, no matter the stakes. Besides, they are touting 2012 as the 'year of the QB' in the draft, so even if we didn't get luck-y, I'd have to root for the Fins to win...

It's not like who I root for affects the game.

I hate the Jets and will always root for Miami to beat them.

Now if the Jets snake into the playoffs off beating Miami, that would be a really bitter feeling, but if the consolation prize is Luck, then at least it will only be a bad offseason until April~

I think the difference for most Fins Fans is that we've only had 10 yrs of crappy play from our team...you guys have had 40 yrs... Marino didn't win a ring but he got us there...have you guys been there since '69 ?? Afterall, you guys still chose Ken O'Brien over Marino ??

No, I'll take our 17 seasons with Marino, despite not winning the SB over the yrs of mediocrity you guys have suffered. Even now, you've got the big blowhard talking smack and not being able to back it up...

As to us, we'll be fine...we're down but not dead. We at least have something to look forward to. With all respect to the fact that the jests are a better team than we are right now, is that really saying much this year ??

As much as it would and does Pain me to root against the phins and I have been a fan now for over 20 years I would have to say 100% I would root for the Jets to win.. I and I mean this as much as I can. I HATE Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano as GM and Head coach. I know nothing about the men personally, but professionally I disgust them.

I want them to go 0-16 ZERO wins, NO Happiness as they have RUINED this once proud franchise and I want that 0-16 record to follow them BOTH around for the rest of their short professional careers.

2-3 Wins means NOTHING this year it does NOTHING to help this team, the ONLY thing that matters is getting the #1 Pick and LUCK or GR III as our Franchise QB. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS! In fact I have begun making sure I watch every Standford game now for my football enjoyment. I don't even watch the Phins with any passion this year.

However saying this I know in my heart we will not go winless. We will win 2-3 games and lose out on the best QB in the draft and again be looking to bring in some Veteran QB and picking some defensive end or OL regardless of who we get in here to coach. There just won't be a sure fire franchise QB when we pick at #4 so in the end this crapbag of a team can't even lose properly.

That's what you call a win-win situation. For the following 48 hours.

If you lose Andrew Luck over that win, and he goes on to a Hall Of Fame career, you traded 48 hours of smiles, for 15 years of agony.

I don't want to continue arguing with Miami fans on their forum, especially with things the way they are. Let's just agree to disagree. I don't think the Jets have had "40 years of crappy play". In the past 13 years alone they have been in the playoffs in 7 of those years (playing 14 games and going 7-7). They also posted a .538 winning percentage over than span. They have appeared in 3 AFC championship games during that span as well, going 0-3. In the Marino era (17 years), Miami post a .601 winning percentage. They played in 18 playoff games going 8-10. The played in 3 AFC championship games and went 1-2. The appeared in one SB and lost. Now if that 17 span in lightyears better than the Jets past 13, then that's your opinion. I won't dispute the fact that being able to watch Marino lead your team must have been awesome. It must have been frustrating watching them not put a complete team around him, because he should have had multiple rings. The guy was great. I loved going to the Meadowlands and watching him play, even when he was beating the Jets (I was at the fake spike game!).

Anyway, it is what it is. It's going on 43 years since the Jets won a championship and 38 years since the Dolphins have won one. You got us by five years :)
