If Ross is as smart as he thinks he is, he should go after John Dorsey as the teams next GM. Dorsey has been in charge of college scouting for the Packers for the last several years. Based on how well the Packers have done in selecting talent in the draft since he took over as the Packers head scout, Ross could certainly upgrade the front office by firing Ireland and hiring Dorsey.
Jeff may indeed be everything Drew states here. The question is this. Can Miami take the risk? Right now, you can consider that Jeff is still connected to Bill Parcells by an umbilical cord. Granted, there seems to be a lot going on behind the scenes where Jeff may be throwing Bill under the bus for some of the bad personnel decisions over the past 3 years. He may be ready to cut his ties to Parcells, and if that is the case, then I would be interested in hearing his ideas and what his plan would be for building this team going forward and hiring a head coach. Is he going to continue the mantra that size and physicality trumps everything else, or is he going to adjust to what the college game is producing? Overall, it is hard for me to separate he and Bill Parcells over the past few years. Plus, at this point in time, if he is throwing Bill under the bus in an attempt to protect his job, then you have to wonder about this guy's morals and character. I've heard that he comes across to the players as a jerk, and Channing Crowder called him a "self proclaimed genius". If that is the case, then he clearly got that from the man he may be trying to throw under the bus.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Great GMs don't ignore the QB position. Great GMs don't ignore the safety positions. Ireland might be a good talent evaluator in his own right, but he doesn't get the big picture, IMHO.
Yeah, said it has taken years for Snyder to back away from operations, and only know has it began to pay dividends Yeah, it was him and Jim Miller sitting in for Gannon. Just passing it along as a "what is being said thing".
We all can think we know how much Irish's responsibilities were, and think we have a conviction about this mans talents, but with how Parcells was hired, and what he was responsible to do, and the fact that Irish was in his first go round, I would think that with all things and variables considered, this was irish's first year of making the decisions.. All points and proof, and simple common sense, point to it, basically I think judgements on this guy are a bit premature, but I agree with KB, not sure he's worth the risk over Cowher or Gruden, but maybe we continue to find out more about how Parcells scamed and failed at his executive responsibilities, while seperating what Irish did well.. This draft was a good one..His ability to move up and select Thomas, the Pouncey pick, Jimmy Wilson looks like he might be a late round find, also, he got rid of three players that I thought we needed to break free from..Ricky, Ronnie, Crowder..His free agency period was weak as hell though, but that really looks like a situation where he didn't have a lot of money to play with this first year.
I don't care about what any agents have to say. I do not want to give any HC total control, just does not work. I'm happy with Ireland, and the drafts he has been part of. Anyone want to go back in history to name a better draft compared to those we have had in the past 4 years? It will take some time.
Since the Dolphins are 0-4 at this point in the season and 14-18 over the past two seasons, I have no idea how you can believe Ireland has done a good job as the Dolphins GM. In fact based on the Dolphins record so far this season, I would submit that there are at least 28 GM's in the NFL who have done a better job than Ireland in not only the draft ,but also in free agency. In fact I see absolutely nothing special about any of the drafts Ireland has been involved with as the Dolphin GM and I suspect that once he is fired after this season, very few of his draft choices will even be on the team in two years. There is a severe lack of talent on the Dolphins roster and the man responsible for selecting the talent is Jeff Ireland. I believe that he is far more responsible for the losing record of the Dolphins than Sparano is. While I believe Sparano should be fired because I just don't think he is a quality NFL HC. Firing Sparano and keeping Ireland as the GM will only ensure that the next HC will be doomed to failure. I have no doubt that if Ross goes after Gruden, Coward, Fisher, or any other top tier HC. The new HC will certainly demand that Ireland be fired before he accepts the HC position with the Dolphins. The only way I see Ireland staying is if Ross decides to go after an assistant coach in the NFL who just wants a head coaching job and is willing to agree to keep Ireland, just so he can get the job. OF course if Ross keeps Ireland and goes after an unknown assistant coach, all that will happen is season ticket sales will continue to decrease. Ross needs to clean house and let the new GM and HC make the necessary changes needed to make the Dolphins one of the top franchises in the NFL, once again.
100 yard rusher (Thomas), what used to be an elite WR before he played with Henne (Marshall), super bowl champion Bush who is deadly when used correctly,....Bess and Hartline aren't scrubs....... I would say the offense has enough talent on it. Compare it around the league and we compare favorably. If Miami had a legit QB, this offense would be fine for now.
I agree Thomas looked good in the two games he played, but he has been out injured as much as he has been in the games. He will only be considered a good draft pick if he can actually remain healthy. I agree that Marshall played better in Denver, but he has not been worth two second round draft picks since he has been with the Dolphins. Some of that can be blamed on Henne but he has also dropped many balls over the last two season which he should have caught. I agree that Bess and Hartline are capable receivers if the Dolphins had a decent QB. I would rate the Dolphin receivers about average when compared to the rest of the teams in the NFL. I have not been a fan of Bush since his days in New Orleans. He was somewhat effective on a Saints team that had a great QB and loads of offensive talent. For a team as limited on offense as the Dolphins are, Bush is a luxury the team really can't afford for five million dollars a season. He just isn't productive enough to be paid that type of money for a team that is going nowhere this season. Your statement that the Dolphins would be fine on offense if not for Henne, fails to recognize the largest weakness on the offense, the offensive line. There is not one player on the line playing well at this time. Jake Long is having his worse season since he came into the league. Pouncey has looked good on some plays and like a rookie on many other plays. The rest of the offensive line is made up below average linemen who would have trouble making most teams in the NFL, much less being on the starting unit. The fact is that the Dolphins need a new QB, at least three more NFL quality offensive lineman, a better tight end and a deep threat who can actually catch some balls. I still have severe reservations about Gates. He has great speed but I want to see him actually make a number of catches before I anoint him the next legitimate deep threat for the Dolphins. So I see the Dolphins having to upgrade many positions on the offense before I will agree with you that they be," fine". It is on defense where I think the Dolphins need a severe upgrade in talent. The only players on this side of the ball I hope the new regime keeps for the future are, Davis, Wake, Langford, and Soliai. I would only keep Soliai if the team is going to stay with a 3-4 defense. If they go to a 4-3, I wouldn't keep Soliai unless he takes a very big cut in pay. There are no other players on this defense which the new regime should build their future around. The fact is the Dolphins have a lot of holes to fill on both offense and defense before they will be able to compete and win against the playoffs caliber team on a regular basis.
I'm convinced Rosenhaus was relatively sincere in his remarks on Ireland, particularly when weighed against his sparingly limited praise of Sparano. So difficult was it for him to muster false superlatives, beyond a contrived "is an outstanding head coach", he quickly shifted his stalling enthusiam to approve Nolan, who despite having a defense in absolute shambles, still apparently represented a far easier pile upon which to shovel his remaining sack of steaming adulation. I expect Ireland to be closely involved if not directly courting the next HC, and whether arrogant, pompous, or snide, Ross will be weighing his ability to persuade a top coaching prospect to work with him. Having candidly consorted together during his time in Miami, I would speculate Ireland still remains in quiet, yet regular contact with Parcells, and has been focused on Luck, or at least the 2012 QB crop, for some time now.
Drew Rosenhuas is concerned with only one thing and that is ,how much money he can make for his clients and himself. Since he must deal with Ireland when talking contract terms, he is only saying what he has to say at this time to stay in the good graces of Ireland, just in case Ireland isn't fired after this season. Actually nothing Rosenhaus says can be taken seriously. Tonight he will be featured in a segment of ,60 Minutes". He is quoted as stating during his interview that, "I really believe the the NFL would fall apart without me". Rosenhuas is merely a self absorbed individual who actually thinks he is relevant in some way. The truth is that he is a wimp who actually serves no real purpose, except to do everything he can to bring attention to his already over inflated ego.
