Well, be that is it may TDK, the key is, you have to get some of those softee's off of the field and put guys on the field who not only want to be there, but who can at least play at a minimal level compared to the guy they are replacing. Change for the sake of change just leads to more mediocrity, change with the idea of "a guy who wants to be out there can only do better" tends to motivate players as benching in the NFL is career death and the players know this. I'd be in favor of a Sgt Hartman "when he screws up, the rest of the team pays for it" approach at practices.
That is all true, by appearances, but it was Bell who was supposed to be the OTT coverage there. He went for the INT (which he had NO chance of getting) and completely whiffed on the tackle...that TD was because of Bell not doing his job, not due to Jones...not that Jones should be carrying around any medals for anything...
he is on a tough stretch with the drops true, but all the success the other guys have out there is because of BM, he needs to play
Oh I'm agreeing with you!! Like I said, if he (or any other layer for that matter) is not doing the job he's being paid to do, bench him and put someone in who will. This entire team lacks any discipline and with these new rules as a result of the lockout, trying to instill discipline in this team is an exercise in futility...unless of course someone wakes up and realizes, "Hey I'm a free agent next year...how am I supposed to get my new payday if I'm riding the bench?" I used to have an expression when I was in the army dealing with soldiers, especially when someone would tell me, "Sergeant, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink"...I'd just nod my head, arms crossed and simply say, "yea, that's true...but I can drown his a$$" This team needs to be drowned in consequences for their actions...or lack thereof.
Yeah. The offense was better two years ago without him, and somehow, benching him now is going to make the offense worse?
Not even sure we can afford to bench some of these guys. If this is the best we have.............. what's it going to look like when we play the rest of the bench?
If you continue to play him, what, exactly is the message to the rest of the team about accepting poor play? "Oh, you're Brandon Marshall, you can play badly, but you, Devone Bess, you can't?" I think this sense of accountability is what was lost when Parcells left, we lost the "******* boss is going to fire me if I screw up, so I'd better not screw up" sense of urgency, for all the world it looks to me like Sparano is treating this season like extended preseason.
Problem is, the horse should not have to be led to water in the first place, if it is led, and is to dumb or stubborn to drink, then get a new horse as that one is unusable.
Well in this context, the "being led to water" is the teaching guiding, mentoring which a coach should be doing with his players. If that horse doesn't want to drink the teaching, the guiding nor the mentoring, you drown him by benching himi. You and I Padre are saying the same thing at similar angles.
dont praise that bastard that gave us all this we have right now, parcells is an overrated stubborn coward, thats all he is, he is still living of his reputation with giants in the late 80, thats all he got, the game has passed him, he failed to make the transition , in regards to marshall, yeah he had some drops last night, i think he lost the long ball in the sun, the other drop was bad, but it happens, i would bench many players on this team , but marshall isnt one of them
Oh sure, difference being, in the services you do not get to pick who you have to work with, you sort of have who you have, in the NFL they get to pick and choose. There simply must be consequences for the poor effort and lack of effort and preparedness. My CFL team, the BC Lions, started out 1-5, they have the winningest coach in CFL history, what he did was give the young guys a chance for the first 4 games or so, when they failed, he did not hesitate to pull them and insert new guys, the team stuck together and has won the last 6 in a row. Sparano has 2 weeks to make similar changes, if he does not, we wind up with Luck or Jones in the draft, but the cost of that is the core of the team will have proven to be bad, and that is what is lost on the "Suck for Luck" line of thinking, it means VD and SS and the 2 ILB's and Soliai, all probably should be removed after the season. "If" Sparano does adjust, and we have a season like SD had in 04, we basically need a FS and RT and RG and Te, it is the difference between yet another complete rebuild, and simply some tweaks.
That is not the one that bothers me, it was the drop on 3rd down that would have kept an answering drive alive, a simple 10 yd out pattern, he drops it, we punt, SD scores, game effectively over. He has done that crap all yr, rely on him, he fails, time to sit him as he is a threat to winning every single game as so much of the offense runs through him.
This team does not know how to compete...Their minds are not able to recover from a mistake..I think they have been poisened from the top..Gm level that is.
hmm i really must have missed that drop, still was watching the game but i was fighting this team in front of my buddies AGAIN, i' m ready to lose every game thats left to get that franchise QB on this team that we all deserve, its not even hard anymore, compared to the loss in week 1, not even a sour taste in my stomach today, we all need to get onboard on this, SUCK FOR LUCK
Yeah they both looked clueless on the play and were to blame for Jackson being that wide open. However, Jones was the only one within 20 yards of him and he clearly gave up on the play before the ball was even caught. It was like a baseball player crushing what they think is a no doubter HR and stopping to watch it instead of running, only for the ball to hit the top of the wall and they get gunned down at 2nd because they weren't running the whole way. Sure, on the surface it was pretty minor, but it also seems to illustrate part of the bigger issue(s): that the players have completely quit and arguably stopped giving a crap during the latter part of last season. The only guys that seem to be giving any sort of real effort in the secondary are Jimmy Wilson and Will Allen. Oh, Yeremiah probably is, too. He just doesn't have the ability anymore. I really think last season took a big toll on this defensive unit. They had to continually bail out the offense and they were the only reason the team won as many games as they did. That combined with the front office/ownership shenanigans and what not.....and here we are.
We had the combo of Ronnie and Ricky with the elite line two seasons ago. Take out Marshall, and we're done.
Disagree, the Bills are making hay with UDFA and late rd pick Wr's, we have DTrain coming back and could pair him with Slaton, or Bush, or Lexxy if we had to do so. I happen to believe, Step #1 is accountability, the team has to sleep, eat, and breath it or we are dead ducks.
Different systems, different teams. You can plug any receiver on that team and they'll put up numbers. Hartline and Bess will not do well without Marshall. Neither will Henne. I understand what you mean about accountability, but this situation is different. Marshall is struggling, you have to let him play through this. He'll come around.
Well, every Phins Wr, aside from DBess is putting up good numbers, aside from TD's, and that is mostly due to RZ issues on a new offense. People tend to forget that the Bills started out 0-8 last yr while their guys were figuring things out. Not so, they did fine in 09 without Marshall.
Eh, Fitzpatrick is ok. I'd say that it's probably more a case of him being in the right type of offensive system with a coach who is smart enough to tailor things to his strengths rather than trying to force him to do things he does not excel at. I still say Henne is a better QB, or at least a lot more talented physically. That of course doesn't always translate to much, but it does go to show you how infectious winning can be and how quickly teams can suddenly go from horrific to good just by getting a little swagger and confidence.
