17, 13, and 16. To use your word, TERRIBLE. And some fans want to blame the defense? Yeah, you crappy defense! Why can't you hold the opposing team to 16, 12, and 15 points every week so we can win games!
Against two of the highest scoring offenses too... Listen they can replace Marc Colombo, perhaps improve the running game by adding a better runner than Reggie Bush. If they can't score in the red zone with Chad Henne this discussion is moot. If they trade for Tim Tebow and make him redzone QB that might change some things.
IMO, here is a very fair analysis of Henne. He is MUCH better than a year ago, which no one can dispute. However, that is not good enough. He still has to be able to lead the team to TDs, and be able to bring them back, in the 4th Q, to be a legit QB. He has improved greatly from last year but, his journey is not complete.
It's not out of the realm of possibility that he does improve in the red zone, he just hasn't done it yet. Whatever the case is he has until the rest of the season to prove he's the guy. Colombo may be banged up so perhaps that part of the team will improve with Garner. We'll see. I'm still somewhat optimistic with regard to Henne's growth as a quarterback. He's recently turned 26, QBs do improve past that point to be sure. Brady became a far superior QB at around that age and then took another step later on. It's not out of this world to think he can be even better. This whole debate though is really pointless because we all know that Henne is going to be the team's QB if he's healthy (that's a cause for concern) and Luck-Barkley aren't within drafting range.
He's fine in the RZ, if Marshall doesn't drop 3 out of 4 passes in the endzone, this discussion isn't even happening.
The players have been put into place for Henne to have better success. He has played much better this season but he needs to be even better than this. He goes thru spurts of being excellent and MUST play with more consistancy. Playing better in the redzone would bring so much more confidence in himself. Yes, the defense is the main reason this team is sucking. That's impossible to deny.
Where the hell did 1 pass become 4 in the redzone?? That pass yesterday was great defense even though he did not touch the ball. His hands were in perfect position to stop Marshall from seeing it.
Read the article bro. They said that Marshall has only caught one out of a possible 4 Td catches this SEASON, not yesterday.
If there were a million threads about how the defense blew the game then I'd argue that it wasn't their fault either. Team game. What I see here is people wanting to blame a 60 min loss on a few plays at the very end of the game, and also blaming the result of those few plays on one player when there were 10 other guys on the field, most of who were not doing their job.
Marshall is a big boy. Big enough to throttle down, come back towards the ball and shield the smaller man with his body. He didn't do it, just like he didn't reel in the ball vs Houston last week. Or maybe we should give credit to Joe Haden for making a play on the ball, something that Jimmy Wilson and Sean Smith failed at completely. There isn't a single guy on the team who couldn't have done more, played better. The Henne discussion is a convenient distraction from the multitude of problems elsewhere on the team, for some of us.
There was no way to throttle down. The pass was thrown while running east to west and was thrown out in front of him so I dont know what you're talking about there. No one is saying others cannot or should not do better. Marshall can play better but he's been the best player on offense so far. Henne is also a HUGE part of the offense. He is the main gog and he needs to play much better and especially since the players added are made for his type of play.
Did you actually read the article? Baradino never lists the throws. He said with his eyes he thinks it's four that Marshall should have caught. He never once said they all happened in the endzone.
Heres what my thoughts are right now. Right now, unless we somehow win the next two...our season is done. I like Henne. But I like Andrew Luck, Brandon Weeden, Etc. alot more. Henne has looked to me like QB that can with if all else around him is clicking. Hes not a Qb who will lose you a game, and on a good team, can put up very good numbers. Hes never going to be a QB that can make a good team Great. Hes never goin to be a top 5 Qb. So, why discuss Henne any more if it appears this season is done. Look at it this way. Would any of you pass on drafting one of the top Qbs in the draft next season, because youd rather have Chad Henne?
I agree with you about 7 , for me while I would have hoped he had improved in those areas already , I definitely see marked improvement and hope for more , as you mentioned. I just have a hard time when virtually all areas of this team have had issues , many more so than Henne , that the focus or as much focus for blame lands on him. You have watched this team a long long time , as I have , I have a good , quiet confidence in Henne that he can continue to be better , but he needs help , as all players do. Cheers.
I watched every game and have them recorded. There are 4 TDs that Marshall SHOULD have had, and he dropped 3. One yesterday, one vs Houston and one vs. NE.
lmao!! BS... You say this in defense of Henne of course. You could cut both of them right now and I would not give a damn so.... So how many Td's has Chad Henne left on the field with poor passes?
On that last drive? the first throw Bess was covered. Was there a missed receiver? Give me the coaches tape and I'll tell you. The second throw, there was illegal contact but wasn't called. The DB was basically pushing gates out of bounds. If Gates played it better, i.e. get tangled up with the db instead of giving ground, maybe we're talking win here (damn Gates is small). 3rd down Henne missed Bess. Granted, the pocket was closing, He had a guy coming from the right side behind, and front side to the left. But you asked me who he missed, he missed Bess. Bess ran a great route and had enough separation that a good throw might have landed us a first down, maybe even get out of bounds. But Henne threw it behind. There was a chance to be a good QB and henne missed it. That last throw, was terrible. Not sure why you are asking me who he missed. He missed Brandon Marshall that's who. Brandon about to make his break. Nobody near. Eyes are locked though, so of course the safety moves in. Nice pocket though. Marshall after his break. Henne about to release the ball. Again, no defender near. Two things. Dlineman with arm going up (but he wasn't a factor) and an official standing in the pass lane. The official jumps out of the way but also wasn't in the passing lane, the ball was passed to the left. still a nice pocket, but the RDE about to move in. This frame shows how far in front of Bm the pass was. The next few show how High it was. the defender down the field who INT'd the ball has to jump to get it. This is kind of hard to see. But that "Teal" blur between the two defenders is BM, that's the pass Henne wants him to catch. Basically Henne never gave the WR a chance. he makes a good throw and it's dropped BM is the goat here. As it is he missed two chances for nice plays and just didn't. We need a guy who, more often than not, does. Plain and simple. A sub 50 4th Quarter QBR doesn't get it done.
Note that number 20 who is two to three yards behind Brandon Marshall has to leap way up into the air to catch that pass. Despite the fact that he's already well behind the intended receiver. But that's not Chad's fault that he threw that pass a mile too high on a must make play....
Defend him all you want. He's terrible in the redzone, on 3rd downs, and on final drives. And when you suck in those 3 aspects, the 3 most important aspects there is, you're an average QB, period.
ok I give you that play bad throw by henne. So you are right he made a bd throw. But you know what? Has anyone ever here seriously wondered why they arent in teh NFL? Or do you think you could really do the job but havent been given a shot? Seriously opinions stated as facts and figurative roll of teh eyes if your disagreed with. Henne missed that play and has missed others. I also agree that if Chad makes that play we are in position for a chance at teh win. But how bout this, we cut Burnett or Dansby or how about Sean Smith for allowing the td to massoqui? the point is you blame henne saying he isnt good enough as if that is a statement of fact and you can sing your own praises all you want but it is a belief. When the defense had to make 1 play the sae as you expect henne to make 1 play and we win. All the defense has to do is not allow a td and we win. All marshall has to do is make 1 catch in teh enzone and teh game is changed. If you dont look solely at the 1 miss from Marshall or the 1 drive fail by teh defense than dont point to other plays made by teh defense or the other catches made by Marshall and then ONLY count the bad passes for Henne cause A -it is hypocritical, B - it discounts any objectivity C it proves my poin that while everyone admits he isnt an elite qbbut is judged by that criteria and D you can state that you arent saying Henne lost the game while implying he was. Henne escaping pressure ade plays, henne throwing for a completion after penalties, henne putting teh ball on receivers hands in teh endzone but receiver drops teh ball, Henne audiblizing but receiver doesnt adjust, rb fumbles after drives are moving, drops teh ball w/o contact. Also go back to your elite qbs and see if they dont miss passes in similar fashion, cause they do. Just as you are famous for pointing out all receivers drop passes and dont catch 100%, even elite qbs make bad passes and in critical situ. All I am saying is that you can blame henne all you want, that is fine, but it seems petty to me. Some of the blame is ridiculous. Of course you want your qb to make those plays. Of course you expect that more than not a good qb will hit his receivers. But it was not an easy situ ation either, its nice to sit when you can pause the game fame by frame and see it, but at real speed it is not quite as easy. Of course again that is what you expect from your qb, to make that play. Just like you expect your elite receiover to make that td catch. outside that drive henne p;layed very well. You cant discount that if you are not going to discount Marshall play outside teh drop. Again if you judge Marshall to be elite and Henne not, then whey not judge your elite rec based on elite rec criteria? I know the answer the question is rhetorical
Blah blah blah (to borrow a phrase from Aqua) Watch the games a bit closer. Henne could be better, but he's not the reason we are 0-3....
The thing is, he was pretty promising his first year. He had some game winning drives, showed some moxie, brought us back into a few games. If he built on that we'd be golden. But he didn't.
We need to find a guy who will be the reason we're not 0-3. The QB is the most important position on the field. All other 52 guys pale in comparison. He is held to a higher standard. Brandon Marshall dropped a pass ok that's fine. He gets targeted 10-15 times a game?
He had that Jets game and a good game vs. New England. That's pretty much it. In games later that season against Buffalo, Tennessee, and Houston he did not perform well when attempting to rally late. As a matter of fact the Buffalo game late that season was a complete disaster in the fourth quarter. We could excuse it then because it was his first year starting.
Perhaps you missed the fact but the Dolphins have scored exactly two touchdowns in the past two games. While I agree that the defense has certainly regressed from its play of last season. I still don't think Henne is the long term answer at QB for the Dolphins. Since he is a free agent after this season, I don't see the Dolphins resigning him. The new head coach and GM will want to bring in their own QB and I see the entire Dolphin team being blown up after this season after the new regime takes over.
I may just take some time off from the main forum. I'm not going to single anyone out, but there are some real ****ing morons posting and it's only a matter of time before I disgustipate all over them. Not a direction I want to take.
