I assumed timing had something to do with it. As to the second part, I don't know maybe I was being sensitive. But your responses in that thread were very different to those in this thread. You're disagreeing, but at least giving the OP a thoughtful response. In my thread, you dismissed it and you dismissed it strictly because it was hypothetical. And this thread is every bit as hypothetical. You also went out of your way to thank every other negative thoughtless response to my thread. You weren't the only one, I'm only picking on you because you're the one I noticed. (probably because of your avatar) Bottom line is hypothetical discussions are a big part of what this or any other fan board is all about. But because my thread was a hypothetical discussion about a potential negative outcome, people at the start of the season when everything was gum drops and lolly pops let me have it for it. I guess I just need to work on my timing...
Oh, I dont mind being singled out... Timing absolutely plays a role, lol. This hypothetical is based on the results we've seen on the field for 2 games. Yours was just a hypothetical based nothing tangible. Also, I bowed out of that thread b/c I dont like partaking in that type of hypothetical, and was leaving you to discuss such a hypothetical. Also, understand that I never go "out of my way" to go through a thread and thank anything. If I read a post I agree with, I thank it, lol. Lastly, I'm pretty dismissive of about the hypothetical of firing Sparano mid-season in this thread as well... so not a ton is changing.
Ahh maybe maybe not fact of the matter is that Luck is going to have to come out at some point and he is going to a crappy team no matter what.
Would you mind fixing my quote? I don't know if I misspelled it Weatman and you copied me, but it is supposed to be Yeatman.
My turn. But, first... There's a difference (I think) between posing this question now, as opposed to before the season started. No one (myself included) wanted to consider being 0-2 much less 0-4 before the bye. Now, and as I stated in my original post, it is a real possibility. That said, IMO if we are 0-4 after we play SD, I think Mr. Ross will be meeting Tony Sparano at the airport to give him his walking papers. Many have said what good will it do? And, it won't bring more fans to the stadium. But, others have pointed out that in season coaching changes are fairly commonplace. And, the bigger issue is (IMHO) that an owner has to show to the fan base that there is oversight, and that there will be consequences to under performing. It sends a message to the team too that everyone is on notice. That no one's job is safe. As opposed to the status quo. The bye week gives the interim coach the benefit of an extra week to prepare for the next opponent, which just happens to be one of biggest and most hated rivals...the NY Jests. Now, if we beat Cleveland and lose to Diego, I'm honestly not sure what Ross might do. 1-3 doesn't sound or look very good. But, if the team looks like they're improving, and they're playing competitive, then he just might give Sparano a stay of execution. For now anyway. So, the way I see it, this upcoming game against Cleveland is a must win. If Sparano has any coaching ability what so ever, I would expect this team to come out spitting fire this Sunday. JMHO...
It was just as real a possibility when I posed the question as when you posed it. Most on this board realized New England and Houston would be very tough challenges, even at home. It was worth discussing then, and it's worth discussing now. And to be honest, I'm not sure if you saw my thread or not, but I don't think it's right of you to make almost an exact duplicate of my thread and then claim yours is more valid because of when you posted it.
I think you're way out of line here MB. No, I did not see your thread. Furthermore, you do not have a copyright on the subject. IMHO, no one wanted to discuss it then because it was really a bit of a defeatist attitude. Now, it is more of a reality. Especially based on the way the team has performed. Not gonna get into a debate with you, just stating what I think are the facts.
I never claimed to have a copyright on the subject. Although most on this board won't post a duplicate of a thread that's been recently made or will request a merge if they realize they've done so by mistake. It's not a rule. It's common courtesy. I give you complete benefit of the doubt that you did not see my thread and therefore made the post not knowing. What I take issue with, is you clinging to this notion that your thread is more valid a discussion because of when you posted it. My thread was never intended as a defeatist attitude. I never even came close to saying "I think we will go 0-4". I simply asked "What happens if we do?" Same thing you're doing. Any of these games can and always have had the possibility of shaking out in 1 of 2 scenarios. A win or a loss. Sure, if you want to get into statistics and probabilities, with 2 games already being losses it becomes more likely in a purely mathematical sense. But strictly speaking, it was known it could happen then, and it's known it could happen now. Like I said, you did no wrong by me by making this thread. But don't sit here now that you know I asked the same exact thing a couple weeks ago and try and tell me your question is somehow more valid or acceptable now that we've lost a couple of games.
Before the season started, I posted on here that I thought the Dolphins would win 4-5 games this season and at the most 6 games. Of course because of this prediction, I was told that I didn't know what I was talking about and that if I was really a Dolphin fan, I wouldn't be so negative about the team. I merely made my prediction based on the lack of overall talent I see on the team, and how ineffective I felt Sparano would be in getting the most from the limited talent he has to work with. Perhaps with another head coach who actually knows how to get the best from his players, the Dolphins may have been able to once again go 7-9 this season. I think the Dolphins should be able to beat the Browns this week and if they do, they may be able to win about five games this season, based on their remaining schedule. If they lose this Sunday, winning four games this season may be a hard feat to accomplish.
Who cares who said it first? The bigger problem is that it may actually happen that we start out 0-4 or 0-5. At which point we can "Just lose baby" and draft Luck and talk about having a long term plan in place because obviously if we get to that point where we are 0-4/0-5 the rumblings will become tremors.
Boik, my beef isn't about who said it first. Again, it wasn't something I was trying to predict and that I'm looking for some kind of validation. I made it pretty clear why this thread bothered me and I won't bother going into it again.
It is going to be so funny if the Suck for Luck crowd get just half their wish. Such as the Dolphins do Suck all season, end up with the #1 overall pick and then Luck decides to stay in school for his final year of eligibility. Then it will be Suck for no Luck. To add insult to injury, what if Jones and Barkley both also decided to stay in school for their final year? I will LMAO, because I have no use for any "fan" who hopes for his team to lose, just so they get a higher draft pick.
Not for any reasons that have a basis in logic and reality. Trading Wake and Marshall for two 2nd round picks is the stupidest idea I have seen proposed here in a long time.
Whoa Nelly! Nobody and I mean nobody should ever "hope" for 0-16 over anything. That's a level of incompetence that never goes away. It's historical and will never leave just like contracting Herpes. I don't see Sparano getting the axe prior to season's end. Don't see the point really. If I had to bet I would in fact put us at 0-4 after these next two games. 1-3 at best. My prediction is we will be lucky to win 5 games, team Sparano/Irleland will be excused of their services after the season and rightfully so.
Yeah, let's give away 2 outstanding players at key positions for 2nd round picks so we can be left with the daunting task of trying to replace them. I don't get how some fans think we're remotely close to being a team that needs to tear everything down and start over from scratch. If we're giving away all our great players, we might as well toss in Jake for a 2nd, too, right. Why stop there? We have a team full of promising young guys whom other teams would throw 2nd or 3rd rounders at. Vontae, Pouncey, Odrick, Soliai, Langford, Dansby, Sean Smith, D Thomas, and probably Misi, Bush, & Bess. But hey, if we could get two 2nds for Marshall & Wake, we could use those picks on more important positions like G, RT, or S right? lol.
. Marshall is a solid talent and still young enough to still be around for a resurgence. Wake you could have a discussion about though. He's a bit older isnt he? I guess some serious assessment needs to take place at the end of the year to really see how long we think this team really needs to reload completely if all the correct moves are made. There is something to be said for the way the Pats manage their roster by trading players while their value is high to reload via the draft. It's the only way to stay competitive for long periods in the salary cap era IMO. I don't know that were that far off though with a couple more successful drafts and a GM that will make smart FA/roster decisions. If were not far off you don't trade Wake. Talented DE's with that ability to get to the QB do not grow on trees.
I'd lol too. We probably have a better chance of winning 2 consecutive Super Bowls than landing Luck. Any talk about Luck is silly IMO.
So you're saying we must drop 32 straight then? Not to mention that the "science" of drafting is far from perfect. You can't just suck for a high pick and be assured of getting anything of value quite frankly.
DOB: 1982-01-30 Lots of guys several years older than he, and with more mileage on them, are still effective pass rushers.
I'm with you in concept... but winning 2 consecutive Super Bowls? Those are non existent odds. I have a better shot at getting anal probed by aliens tonight than that at this point.
Excellent point with the bold part. The ONLY way I'd consider trading Wake is if it were a draft day deal where we know almost exactly who we're getting from his draft pick, but there would have to be an awfully good reason. I think we're close enough to competing. IMO, rashly and prematurely stirring up the top of the roster could result in us sacrificing a potential SB (during the next few years). There's enough talent on this team that, if we hypothetically don't have a good season, I'm pointing the finger more at the coaching staff than the roster.
Agreed... although there are some glaring roster holes still as well. Some could have been avoided had Ireland not had his head up his arse. I'll point to coaching and the GM at this point. I do feel we have enough talent to become a strong team in a few years with some smart moves. Maybe one year if certain young prospects develop positively.
The way I see it, other than guard and RT, our starting 22, with Clemons as FS, matches up pretty well with most any team and if this staff cannot get to the playoffs with this roster, it is due totally to poor coaching and not due to lack of talent. A new head coach, if it gets to that point, should be positively salivating to inherit this roster IMO.
If the Bill Cowher of today still has the drive as a head coach, as the Cowher from a few years ago, and got hired, he'd do darned well as soon as next year with the core of this roster returning.
True that...... which is why I wouldn't trade Marshall & Wake for 2nd rounders. Josh McDaniel and Denver fans thought they were getting Marshall's replacement after using a 1st round pick on Demaryius Thomas. So far that hasn't happened.
As long as you wake up with a smile, it's all good. Those are like the same odds I think we have landing Luck.
I couldn't agree more! We could probably sit back and let all the coaches fly across country to seduce us instead.
Both Guards at this point. I love Incognito for being a mauler but his lack of athleticism gets him in trouble and Carey flat out scares me watching him now. RT is a huge need as you stated. I'm not satisfied with our safeties. We need to invest there. Another pass rusher to take pressure off Wake is a dire need as well IMO. If Thomas works out were good at RB but if he dosen't we've got a big issue there. I'd like to see more speed opposite Marshall at WR. Hopefully Gates develops. A solid receiving TE would be nice as well.
You just hit on all the spots I was about to mention, so there's nothing for me to add........... except....... say hi to Mork for me!
I wish he were a disaster in NE, too, but I still took some joy in watching an ex Patriot completely dismantle an organization.
