An entire land built at Disney's Animal Kingdom based on Pandora, and the movie Avatar (and the soon to be released sequels) I believe this is HUGE. Animal Kingdom was known as a "1/2 day park" with out a big reason to return for repeat visits. Well now we will have it. Amazing visuals, insane innovative lands/concepts. With James Cameron heading creative ventures with Disney imagineers, this will be outstanding imo. Looking to open 2017. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2011/09/avatar-coming-to-disney-parks/
I guess this is good, because they never bothered to install a Pocahontas attraction at disney world, so this should cover both bases.
sounds like a great idea. i never went to animal kingdom because i just didnt seem worth the price. epcot is the only place i can say i like
EPCOT is fantastic. I love it. Animal kingdom is fun for shows (lion king is amazing). And some of the rides. The safari is cool, mt everest, tough to be a bug....and the khali river rapids. All can be done by 2 o'clock if you know your way around the park. This addition will be big. And will make me a happy man having disney annual passes when i move to central florida in February.
It's not quite Harry Potter though. Seems like Disney felt they needed a "killer app" to blunt Universal, but as big as Avatar was, it's not nearly as big worldwide as HP. And I imagine that HP has more staying power. I can pretty much guarantee that my kids who are 3 and 1 will read HP someday. Not sure they'll care about Avatar, or that I'll care enough to show it to them.
To me avatar and all those movies are based on romeo and juliet. Two warring clans, start crossed lovers, etc.
Your right. But avatar and the fantasy land expansion thats nearing completion at magic kingdom? That'll top it imo. although, there are rumors (and an almost certainty) of a Harry Potter phase 2 (expansion). Which would be incredible. (rumors of a bank of gringots roller coaster)
Not sure the Fantasyland expansion is going to be a huge draw. From what I understand Little Mermaid is just Nemo without the real fish. The mine coaster should be cool but why are they closing classic Snow White? Harry Potter will absolutely expand as the Lost Continent section of Islands is useless, if not pretty cool to look at.
I already liked Animal Kingdom this will make it even better. It doesn't have a ton of rides but most of the ones it has are high quality. Disney has a ton of land they can do whatever they want with this. I was at Universal Islands of Adventure last June, you can't even get into the Harry Potter attractions. They have everything crammed into this tiny corner of the park and half of the people there are trying to get into it. I would hope they would expand Harry Potter.
I truly believe fantasy land expansion will be huge. More shops, more resturants (be our guest resturant will be awesome), more rides. It could be 120 degrees in august, and dumbo will have a 1 hour wait. Well guess what? Imagine 2 dueling dumbo rides, with a new immersive queue with games, and entertainment while you wait. HUGE. The mermaid ride will draw because its indoors and its a classic attraction that will draw the kids. Snow white is innovative and new, dark ride, coaster type (big time needed at MK). They are closing the snow white ride because it sucks and its old, and no one rides it Caseys corner will be cool. Water gushers, playground etc. Not to mention the barnstormer re-done as the great goofini roller coaster for kids. FLE will be huge. IT gives you more places to go and see at an already busy and popular "land" of magic kingdom. Now, once it opens, they will refurbish and repaint/touch up....splash mountain, thunder mountain, peter pan etc. It will make everything better and step their game up. I am excited!!! Oh they are def expanding potter. No way they cant. Their attendance jumped up 200% from before potter. With the last movie bringing in close to 1 billion, an expansion is certain.
You have to see the diehard Disney fans losing their minds over this...saying it's not "Family Friendly". I love Disney, but man, the diehards effin kill me. They expect the parks to change NOTHING, and somehow think that people will keep coming back. There are those who actually still wish "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride" was still there.
I see them all the time at wdwmagic.com. It's hilarious. Walt Disney himself was ALL ABOUT change, and innovation, and making things better and better and improving every day! "Keep moving forward" - Walt Disney
LOL I'm no disney traditionalist, but I have to admit missing Mr. Toad. Even though my kids love Pooh
Totally agree. I go to Disney every single year. But they are in sore need of new attractions. Fantasy land will be great for my kids, and basically it mimics Harry Potter land for the little kids. Still, my daughter was really bummed out when we went last month and the barnstormer was gone
I work at Disney, and I agree with you...except about the Mr. Toad part. I miss that ride, and the ride that took it's place (Winnie the Pooh) is absolutely cheap looking and all kinds of sh**. Although I wasn't a fan of the movie Avatar, I'm looking forward to the attraction. Say what you want about the film itself, but it's hard to deny it was visually stunning. If the land looks anything like whatever the hell the planet was called, then it should be pretty to look at. Although I already feel bad for the castmembers who have to be painted blue every damn day.
