Yeatman is here based on potential due to his size, not based on what he showed in preseason from what I can tell.

He's a big dude, and strong, and athletic, but for all his being a "blocking specialist" and a "bruiser", he didn't really block well this preseason and he runs routes like he's got a 2x4 stuck up his @ss. I'm watching Patriots preseason footage and looking for instances of Yeatman blocking and keep shaking my head because of his inability to mirror, his bad hand use, etc..and then there are a couple plays when I'm like "Alright, dude's settling down, that was a really nice block"...and suddenly I realize that was #80 (Lee Smith) not #88 (Will Yeatman).

As I said, very raw...a Lacrosse convert.

Jets claimed Gilyard as well, which is odd as i thought they were high on Curley?

LOL, O'connell claimed by Jets. I'm sure waterboarding for information on Pats and Phins is in his future. Remember O'connell, you can still attack. Just bite down on the fake tooth we installed and blow the poison into Baron Von Ryan's face...

He sounds like he belongs on a PS, not an active roster. I wonder who we cut to make room for this fine specimen?

Good question. And yeah I think the Dolphins ultimately would have wanted to use a practice squad spot on him but he would have chosen the Patriots and so they had no choice but to roster him.

But for all the blocking specialist he's supposed to be I'm finishing up my second Patriots preseason game and every time I see a Tight End blocking well it's either Rob Gronkowski or Lee Smith, not Will Yeatman.

Exactly my point; now they're going to cut someone to make room for this guy, because somehow he's worthy of one of only 53 spots.

    Maybe they trade Fasano.

Watching Will Yeatman play does make you appreciate one thing and that is how much size helps players. He's not very good but he's getting the job done because he's big and he's going against low quality players. But if he's got important responsibilities this season as a blocker he might get the QB or RB killed, IMO.

Always amazed me that even the least developed blocker cannot even manage to simply wall off their assignment, it is so damn simple to do that it just tells me the player probably does not enjoy blocking very much.

It just seems that his upside is limited to being an adjunct O-Lineman. He's too big and slow to be an effective receiving TE (unless he's got some kind of special quickness on >10 yard routes) and, at 270, if you ask him to gain weight to be an OL he will likely always struggle to maintain it.

Like Marvin said, you could see maybe giving a guy like this a year on the PS to see what happens, but who's gonna hit the pavement now to make room for him on the 53?

Whenever you've got a guy that big that can actually run a little bit, you immediately wonder what he has to offer you if you get him out into space on an underneath route with room to run. We still haven't seen that kind of opportunity for him yet this preseason. He seems to have good hands. But, there's no getting around that he's slow, not very agile, and when it comes to blocking he's been getting the job done in pass protection but only barely (ball comes out before his man could cream the QB), and his run block assignment is either an easy, no way the guy he's blocking was going to make the play anyway, or the guy he's trying to block does get a shot on the ball.

Just not someone I'm going to get excited about. I'd rather have claimed Daniel Hardy. Lee Smith would have been a better blocking specialist this year, IMO.

According to Patriot media sources, Yeatman outperformed Lee. I don't know if that is true. I didn't watch the Pats this much.

I just didn't see enough from Restelli in the preseason to justify the Dolphins signing him to the PS. He is already 25 years old and I would much rather see the Dolphins use the PS to develop younger players.
Restelli appears to be exactly what we should have known he was from the beginning. A player not good enough to play in the NFL but good enough to play in the CFL. The Dolphins were fortunate to sign Wake a few years ago and he has become a star in the NFL. He is the exception and Restelli is the rule for those players who try to jump from the CFL to the NFL.

I hope Restelli kept his cold weather clothing when he signed with the Dolphins. I think he will be needing it once he goes back to play in Canada.

Not even the mentat, the witch, a Guild navigator high on the Spice and the Muad'Dib himself, combined, could be up to that task.

This is Julius Pruitt's 3rd year on the PS, and has to be his last. 3yrs is the max allowed. For a guy who never seems to show anything in preseason, or gets much chance to do so, I do not understand the attraction with having him on the PS so long.

Give the new guy a chance, like our little Livas. JMO.

It's a form of nerdity based on a science fiction universe; Frank Herbert's Dune books. Nothing to do with football or the practice squad. Duneheads just like to identify each other in passing.

On the practice squad, I just can't see Pruitt and not Livas. We have 6 WRs. Don't see Pruitt breaking through to the 53 after 3 years on the PS. Have they decided that there is no way Livas could ever make the team but Pruitt could? Obviously, but why hasn't he for three seasons? Maybe he's the route runner for the scout team.

Pruitt apparently is well thought of by the other WRs:
He must serve some purpose for the scout team, like you said, that Livas could not fill.
