Thought this could be a fruitful discussion as both have physical talent, but wildly different skillsets. -Devlin cost just a signing bonus -Pryor will cost a late rd pick in all likelihood (unless Shanahan gets frisky) Which prospect would you rather have on the Dolphins roster?
What makes Pryor tempting to me is he can make things happen ala McCoy, and Daboll had so much success with him last yr as a Qb, but not as a passer.
Short of pigeon crap on his uniform Devlin's a statue in the pocket thus far. Has he even thrown the ball yet?
Yessir, he had maybe...4 pass attempts the other night and looked a bit underwhelming. I still like his game though, if Henne/Moore are behind the curve a UDFA Qb from Delaware is massively behind it, do not know if he has another chance though.
I don't think either one can be more than a 3rd QB so I'd prefer Devlin just based on cost. If my choices are between crap and crap, I'd prefer the cheaper one.
There are mixed feelings on this board about Pryor. Below is a link of Mayock breaking his game down. Here is the link: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-netwo...yock-breaks-down-Pryor?module=HP11_hot_topics However, what I found interesting was the first comment (when i saw the video) regarding some of his stats. I've quoted the comment below so it doesn't get buried. If those numbers and info is correct, how can there be such polar opposite opinions on the guy, with some people not even willing to take a chance on the guy with a 6th or 7th in the supplemental draft, which he is now eligible for?
Now for something completely different ... Winnipeg added Maybin to their neg ( negotiation ) list so if he doesn't catch on with the Jets , he may be up here ... of course if Hunt gets cut then he gets the ticket ...
I have a strong feeling they'll draft him. They've wanted a mobile, strong-armed QB and despite his issues. He could succeed in an offense that spreads the field out for him, allows him to use his speed against a QB spy, and gives him a dump off option like Bush. Even if it's just as a change-up he can really hurt certain defenses. It all depends on the cost.
I wouldn't complain about a 6th or 7th, but I wouldn't go higher than that. My issue is that he regressed after that freshman year. He's young and there are maturity questions. I see him as a guy who needs a great deal of development time (3+ years). I think that if we put him in before that, we ruin him or at best he'll end up being good for some other team (probably Philly, LOL).
All I know is that a 6-5, 240 lb QB that runs a 4.39, is durable, tough, and has great running instincts is begging to be a receiving TE. I don't know how many years it'll take to get him there but he has as much talent as anyone at that position (perhaps more since he's taller than Vernon Davis). Adding to that he also knows how a QB's thinking and could become his favorite target. Probably doesn't hurt that on a trick play he can throw down the field.
Well, what intrigues me about Pryor is Brian Daboll's work with Colt McCoy last season, McCoy ;led the offense to wins over the Pats and Saints with virtually no prep time as the #3 Qb, and I can see Pryor offering a WC dimension as well, his problem is that 5 game suspension takes most of the allure out of drafting him as he way behind the curve now, add in a month and half of the season and he does not make much sense.
I think he can practice though no? Padre I can't think of NFL tight ends that have 4.38 speed, quickness, running instincts (watch some videos he knows how to run), and have what I would call the advantage of knowing where their QB wants them to be if the plays breaks down. That Wildcat possibility is intriguing I'll grant you that but as a slot tight end in a 4 WR set this guy is tremendous. Imagine having Marshall in the slot on the left with Pryor in the slot on the right run blocking against what's likely to be a 200 lb safety and a 190 lb CB. What scares me about Pryor is that he isn't a 4.38 TE that's been training for years to be a receiver, he's been training as a QB. My point is that I think he could quite possibly have athletic potential on yet another level. He's already stated that he'd be willing to play different positions. I would offer a fifth for him. He's too talented and too much of a football player to not make it in some capacity in this league.
Pretty much where I'm at with Pyror. Is the kid an idiot? Yes... But the guy has physical tools that you can't replicate. That's always worth a shot. Especially if the price is right in the draft.
Eh, not seeing him as a Te, his body type is all wrong, he'd be more of a Wr if anything. But why mess around with another project Wr? Maybe he could be Josh Cribbs Jr, probably not though.
