Thought Henne had a solid game. One thing I was glad to see is the Henne was voted one of the captains. He wasn't voted a captain last year. Tells me the team respects him. Saw him and Marshall jawing on the sidelines after he was pulled. After last year I was concerned the team, or at least certain members, wouldn't support him. Don't see that at all. Chemistry looks solid.
All in all, Henne was 4-8, 77 yards, a TD, 2 drops, one leading to a pick, and the second pick being a debatable choice. After watching Paul's replay, I can't say if it was a bad decision on Henne's part, and this is in hindsight, after watching the play a few times. Not a bad night without Marshall and Bush.
That was my impression. It looks like Henne got confused by a wrong route and decided to throw it anyways. I can live with that in the preseason.
Give me a break. Are you really making excuses for a starting NFL Tight End not catching the ball b/c it wasn't perfectly thrown in stride? You realize Henne was throwing the ball with a guy in his face just as Fasano came out of his break, right? If I had to guess, part of Fasano's $8.7 million contract includes catching the freakin ball when it hits him in both hands at chest high level. Are we playing Pop Warner football here?
Sorry, that was not because he ran a wrong route. That was all on Henne. Even if the receiver did, there was two guys blanketing him and one guy closing fast. Henne should have seen three guys all over him and thrown it somewhere else. It wasn't because of the timing. There wasn't much room to run any route. If he squared in, there was a guy closing fast from the inside. If he cut out, he would have been out of bounds. There was a guy behind him and a guy in front of him. He threw right to the guy in front of him. Was Henne thinking the receiver was going to run a curl? Doesn't matter, he was clearly looking that way and should have clearly seen the coverage and he threw it right to the guy in front of him. This isn't meant to just be a bash Henne thing. I really wanted the guy to do good, but I'm not about to sit here and make and cling to excuses for a blatant mistake. I've done that too much in the past only to end up drunk and deflated. Hey, I'll hold out hope until the fat biotch sings, but no more excuses. That was a mistake.
So without the drops, Henne's 6/8 with 1 TD, 1 INT and no ground game......... and Ryan starts out 0 for 4 with a great ground game.
True on some plays not others. And certainly not that play. His eyes were on Bess the entire play and he knew exactly where he was going when he threw that ball. Again, enough with the excuses.
With that being Cover-2, really that was the wrong place to go with the ball, however there have been better Qb's then Henne who made the same mistake, no big deal really. I'd dearly love to see Henne use a pump fake, my goodness Db's would fall down over it, you could tell they were expecting some totally different things out of the passing game then what they got, if Henne can find that extra 5%, like pump fakes and play action motion and using his legs more, to me he would turn the corner.
The glass is definitely half full, Henne was light on his feet and moving around in the pocket...The rest is just pre-season, a shortened offseason, new offensive scheme and who gives a crap.
To me, that is Matt Moore's real edge on Henne, he is a more fundamentally sound Qb, but do like the improvements he showed in his game this evening. After that 2nd int, I'm sure there were some who expected a Henne meltdown, he bounced back and hit Hartline and went to the sidelines and put on a ball cap, night..finished.
Henne was inconsistent. As per usual. However, he's clearly our guy, and I'm rooting for him to succeed. Not that any of you really care, but I'm gonna bite my tongue on the Henne bashing until October. I hope I eat some Henne crow. Until then, I'll wait and see what he does.
It is very possible. Looking at the play it kind of looked like Henne was about to throw inside, then double clutched the ball. But the key to what you're wondering is key to me. Right route, wrong route, he threw it into an area that had three defenders. BUT that throw was one of Henne's strengths last year.
Heck, that throw is one that Henne can consistantly make against a cover 2 or man the last two seasons. He just missed it. The play action Td to Hartline was nice. Love to see alot more of that..
I'm good with it b/c Henne rarely repeats the same mistake. I'll be concerned if these mix ups become a common occurrence and he doesn't throw the ball away.
Well, keep in mind as well, they were trying to run iso running plays to test Murtha's run blocking skills, that is a part of the reason why DTrain was going off of LT and not having much success in so doing, when Thor comes back the story will change a bit. I really liked the concept they were using, Henne was either going to hit a big play, or dump the ball off, same deal with Matt Moore, only Moore is happier to push it down the field, Henne more picks his spots, keep in mind Hartline broke off a route that Henne threw deep, Hartline runs the proper route and he scores another long TD.
Good point. If the INT came during one of the areas he had problems with last season, I'd be a little concerned. Not trying to make excuses, but I'm just wondering if he was thinking "this is preseason and I wont get many opportunities, so I'm gonna try and make a play even though I'd normally throw it away during a real game".
Our QB had a better game than Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger in the first preseason game. Cut him immediately.
I think that if we are going to pick on Henne in the first game of pre season, we should at least do the same to our first team D. They got beat up. Off with their heads, they all need to be replaced. LOL
I don't think the Preseason is the end all be all, yet some fan reactions here annoy the HELL outta me. Chad Henne didn't have a great game...I get it. But let's not make 2435678999 excuses for the guy and excuse the fact Brian Hartline played well and was able to yet behind the defense in the limited time he was in. So quick to say he player adagainst 2nd string yet Henbe gets credit....it's infuriating. Henne didn't play well. He did nothing to ease Dol-fans of his inconsistencies. Let's hope he improves.
He took a risk. It didn't pan out. I don't think it was as much of a bad decision as it was a risky decision. Matt Ryan made a risky decision throwing it into double coverage in the endzone, but it panned out. The difference between those two plays was that the Falcons defense back had the awareness to turn around and make a play while the Dolphins defense back didn't. The pick is on Henne, but I just feel it was a risky throw, not a bad or dumb throw.
He did for me, I did think Moore did what he does, and probably played better then Henne, but the preseason to me is work on your game, and Henne showed improvements in the areas that I feel are the most in his control, deep passes, ran for a first down when the team needed it. Now that is not to say everything was fine, as for whatever reason, Henne just starts out slow in the preseason.
He was being diplomatic. Bess did a fantastic job and Henne screwed it up on that play. it was an option route and Bess used his creativity to create a 20 yard chance. (chunk yardage). Henne just ****ed it up.
That's completely absurd. We clearly do NOT have enough time since the game elapsed to make 2,435,678,999 excuses. Seriously, do you know how long it took Padre to tally 71,000 posts? So the stuff you're complaining about members doing isn't OK, but at the same time we have to anoint Hartline b/c of one play? hypocrite.
I'd rather be Moore in our 2nd team offense with Gates & Wallace than be Henne in our 1st team w/o Long, Marshall, and Bush........ against the Falcons no less.
what about the changed team speed on offense, we scored a 44 yd, 28 yd and a 75 yd TD, this speed shows up already after 1 game, if livas shows these performance the next few games he has to be kept, i wasn´t as excited for a kickoff return in a long time, his first 2 attempts were also very close
I would like to see him in a Dexter McCluster type role. I would also like to see D. Thomas in a Thomas Jones type role
What do you think Chad's QB rating was? Would you be surprised to know it was 83.9? Granted, that is not great, but if he had that QBR at the end of the season, I think most of us would be pretty happy. If Fasano made that catch on the the first INT, rather than letting the ball ricochet off his shoulder pads, and the catch netted 5 more yards, Henne would have had a 96.8 QBR
Those are Hall of Fame posting numbers. I think Padre must sleep with his lappy rather than his Teddy Bear, and post in his sleep.
Speed is over rated... I would rather have slow guys that cant get more than 5 yards on any given play no matter how well it was executed!
Henne's preseason first game QBRs: 71.7, 83.1, 52.5. and today, 83.9 His 2nd preseason games: 77.9, 94.5 and 151.2, and next week...?
