Normally I'd agree with you, but I noticed a difference in our offense when he's in the slot vs flanker.
3 wr sets he was 54 for 577 & 5 TDs. 2 wr sets he was 19 for 191 & 0 TDs. Henne also performed worse in 2 wr sets, and a big chunk of that came during the last 3rd of the season <when Bess was used more on the perimeter> IIRC.
In the bolded portion: I am still trying to figure this one out. Nabo in another thread refreshed my memory on that second INT... I can't see how that was the WR running the wrong route... the ball was heading spot on to the WR, however the DB made a great leaping play on the ball. Either Henne didn't see him or Henne didn't think the defender was looknig when he threw it or misjudged the defenders ability. The pass was a bit flat on trajectory though. Probably because the window was tight with the safety closing in.
if the defense is expecting a tendency for a route to be broken off (particularly on a blitz) and we're not doing that this year, then all the better.
I think that is what we will see, the old style of square ins and what have you now have a "up" part to them. As for the Henne pick, I know Sparano said the Wr ran the wrong route (fwiw I think it was Bess) the plain fact is he threw into a Cover 2 area that he should not have thrown the ball into, it really is that simple.
I really wanted to get out of this game with no injuries. But we were physical as hell tonight. Blitzing well. Offense pushed the football. We have to play faster early. Started flat. Both sides Good looks at our depth.
In the opening series we really looked like we were treating this as a scrimmage. I didn't notice any kind of blitzing or anything special on defense in the opening quarter. It was almost as if Nolan got pissed that Atlanta was run blitzing frequently in the first quarter and decided: to hell with it... once we started blitzing their QBs started grazing on turf.
Yep, but how it works with Henne is the throw he nailed to Hartline means nothing, the one bad throw is all that matters.
I had no problem with Henne in the first preseason game with 3 weeks of practice or less. But that second int was thrown damnt near right into the defender. Wrong route or not, it was a no no
Thats also the throw Henne missed several times in the past. Nice to see him hit the deep ball. However that doesnt excuse him throwing behind Fasano or the incredibly stupid throw to Bess.
Not to me! I argued all game long about the int's. That TD was EXCELLENT and it was also excellent to see Hartline, a player some said held Henne back due to a lack of real speed, be on the other end of it.
Another thing to consider is the speed at Wr changes with Gates. With Marshall, Bess, and Gates in on a 3 Wr set they should be able to excell at any of the spots...
Hell no man that was huge... Also like Daniel Thomas catching the ball out of backfield. Good burst. Fresh legs. With Bush. Henne kept his confidence and made a play after the bad throw.
ok here's the play (I uploaded it, so sorry if it's not the best in quality) so we can over analyze it, because it's what we do. I want you to watch Henne closely from both angles. Tell me what he does before he throws the ball.
The only beef I have is not being on the same page with the Wr's, that is going to take time, some people point out that "oh Henne played against the 2nd teamers" tbh, I could not tell as I noticed Peria Jerry sacking Matt Moore, and he is a starting DT. I suspect neither team likes each other very much as this was a really heavy blitz game, more so then I've seen from a first preseason game, I think when CC decleated Wilson that was a message, when Livas broke the TD, Atlanta upped their game as well. As for the Oline, folks give it some time, there is now hours of film on the three units, let's see who did what and any changes that need to be made.
Double clutched that allowed the Cb to make the play, now if Bess did run the wrong route it would explain things.
I don't think that's really something to worry about. Ed Perry used to be one of the first down field back when he was our LS. The LS isn't as held up at the line by blocking and disengaging from defenders as most of the others on the punt team.
Only if he dropped one in the first pre season game. LOL It really fascinates me that with all the info available at everyone's fingertips, there are still mindless posts.
bottom line, this is the first preseason game after a lockout that destroyed spring and early summer training. For the most part I dont think you can have a bad game that means anything unless you're a lineman thats getting ragdolled (since that means its a strength issue and that wont improve in four weeks). I thought Henne was ok. The first pick was all Fasano. It wasnt a great throw but it certainly wasnt a bad throw either. he didnt gun it in there. the 2nd pick was probably henne's fault, regardless of what the coaches are saying but to me the main thing that I noticed, that really stood out, was how he moved in the pocket. what a difference an offseason makes. he runs for a first, the play before he eludes a pass rush and finishes up that drive with a TD bomb that he doesnt overthrow. Too early to say anything about Henne but the pocket awareness definitely seems to have improved big time Moore is a solid backup and serviceable starter in a pinch but I hope we dont see him once the season starts. Personally I think O'Connell will beat out Devlin for the final spot and I didnt see anything to change my mind Running Backs look ok but not great. Receivers looked subpar to me on seperation tonight but Gates and Wallace provide some hope that we may have some new contributors in the pass game The oline run blocking looked horrible and probably will the entire offseason considering all the changes. I'm just hoping that by week four of the regular season we can open up a hole or its going to be a repeat of last season Defense overall looked stiff but I put that on week one Overall decent effort. Weeks two and three are much more important than weeks 1 and 4 in preseason so I'll be a bit more critical next week
In this thread, where are the mindless posts? I am not seeing them myself. If you mean Paul 13's post... if you reread it, it is sarcasm.
the double clutch is noticeable and it does seem as of he's looking to throw inside more. you could be right padre
LMAO... progressions? It's a play action pass, he has three receivers in the route, and they are all double covered (sound familiar). Before I go off on a tangent, read below.... Ah, why'd he double clutch? That certainly wasn't a pump fake right? If it was a planned pump fake, the receiver definitely ran the wrong route. But IMO he double clutched because he is expecting the receiver to run inside. Look where the safety is, way outside and over the top. Miscommunication? Yes. Bad throw by Henne anyway? Maybe. Check the corner again, what does he do at the snap? Looks like he was blitzing at first and I reckon that was the read that Henne made, except Bess runs outside, Henne has to double clutch and then makes the questionable decision to throw it anyway. Nice play by Grimes to get back though, lets give him some credit too... or is that not allowed?
I would normally agree with this, but do you think that with the shortened year and no training camps, etc... won't affect our usual preconceived schedule?
The first INT was behind Fason causing the drop...if it's a good throw it's a catch. The second one was just terrible.
I don't think he could be right! To me, he is right. But with time to double clutch it he should not have forced in where there were three defenders. Just throw it away.....in a real game. Preseason I'm fine with it.
i could see how week 4 might be more important this year but i cant see how week one is anything more than getting the cobwebs out
excellent point. the double clutch means that even if the receiver ran the wrong route, henne caught it and still threw a pick which is something to watch for as we get further into the season. this early i'm not concerned but i want to see one perfect game in either week 2 or 3 of preseason just to set my mind at ease
That I agree with. Damn symantecs are ruining the world these days. Edit: However, without them we would be in a land of chaos... or are those... nevermind.
