    1. Where were you doing this? I sure do not recall anyone posting here as DolfanJake being a cheerleader the previous two seasons.

    2. A 50 yr old man literally crying over losing a football game? Because you couldn't take it anymore? OMG!!! Yeah, I did that too...when I was 11!. I don't know what to say, really. I could say you have some fairly serious emotional problems but if I did, you would probably say I was picking on you.
Just stay away from sharp objects, and tall buildings with ledges outside the windows. Hopefully the feelings will pass.

You know, I can respect the fact that you are at the end of your rope with the dolphins and the emotional drain is now spilling over into your posts. and it's fine, you're allowed to express your despair. but does it have to leak into all the threads here? Like I was telling another poster the other day, it's the same crap every time with nothing new to add to the discussion. For dolphins fans, this is usually one of the best times of the season, our optimism is at it's peak before the real world slaps us in the face. Sure, we get occasional highs by beating Rex Ryan's fat *** and the occasional drubbing of the patsies (I bet money we split with them this season). So, your opinion is fine, but maybe consider the other posters who are still excited for the season and cut back on the broken record. Then, if they start tanking, you can pull the "I told you so routine". Right now, you just come across as a grumpy old man that no one wants to pay attention to anymore.

Seems to me most RBs who are fumblers in college remain fumblers in the pros. Those who seldom fumble in college usually carry that over to the pros. Fumblers can improve with proper coaching and changing the way they hold the ball, but DT has to show he is one who can and will improve. Until he shows it, he is a question mark in that regard.

I think all Lombardi is saying, is there are a few questions that need to be answered. There are. He is right. Big deal. Nothing to see here folks, move along.

Well our own coach said he's concerned about the lack of experience at running back...it's nice to know they say this after Ricky and Ronnie left. Surely one of them would've helped increase optimism in case Thomas doesn't work out.

I don't expect many people to be high on a team that's finished 7-9 two straight years, that has the same QB. Earn respect by winning games. Having just one season above .500 since 2005 won't get you respect just because we may have an elite defense.

I would also like to add that Daniel Thomas was rode like a horse by Bill Snyder because he was all they had. He had 545 carries in 2 years, which can wear on any back. I would look out for more Ronnie Brown type durability issues.

Yeah me, Jeff Ireland, Tony Sparano, Steve Ross and the entire organization b/c unlike JP Losman or Trent Edwards, Chad Henne actually has some talent.

I try to keep an open mind when judging my teams. I am not afraid to say that my team is going to suck this year based on the talent we have on offense and our current coaching staff. I am sorry I just cant trust a staff that drafts a center who can't the ball out of a shotgun formation in the first round and turns around and gives him a 9 million dollar contract. Geez, this staff signed Matt Moore for crying out loud. Now if you want watch a good football team, tune in on Saturdays to the South Carolina Gamecocks, now this is a team with talent.

Pouncey hikes the ball out of the shotgun just fine. Sure, he struggled when he made the switch from guard to center...but he did make the All American team for the SEC as a center. If he couldn't hike the shotgun, he wouldn't have.

And did you really just bash Miami and then call S Carolina "talented".

Dolphins have a lot to prove. Having two late season collapses when they were sniffing the playoffs in a row doesn't do much to help inspire confidence.

Let's not start comparing the billygoats to the Dolphins now. At least the Dolphins actually have a shot at making the playoffs. The bills on the other hand don't even have time to worry about the playoffs, they just want to win a game or two to keep the fans in the seats.

As far as entertainment goes we Dolphin fans will have a lot more fun watching our team perform.

Yes. It even got reduced to petty insults and name calling.

No, not at all bro. I don't see a lot of people turning this into a bash Henne thing. Actually, most have discussed all of the issues which he mentioned, like the RBs and the OL.

No, just like how him coming out and expressing his concerns about Henne didn't change the mind of a single Henne lover or supporter or whatever. I guess it could give people some pause, but certainly won't change anyone's opinion. I don't think anyone is going to completely change anyone's mind on any player if that person has strong convictions on a particular player, but you keep trying to make this into just a Henne issue, which it's not. He's part of it, but other question marks about the O are being discussed.

The guy has always talked good about the team. So, most of his new concerns are about a good portion of our offense. Is he supposed to point out every good aspect about every team just to appease some fans? He's gushed positively about this team enough. What's the point? He has new concerns and they're mostly on the offensive side of the ball, so that is what we should be hearing from him. He's not paid to be a Miami cheerleader. He has been very positive about the team in the past, so I would think that his new concerns would hold a bit more credibility than someone who is just a Miami hater or whatever. He also has limited time on the show.

No kidding. That's all any of us do. Is that somehow different for fans on a team website?...no, but that's all we do here everyday. Not one single human actually knows for sure what's going to happen at this point, so should we all not speculate nor discuss anything until the games are played? I don't think the creators of this or any other site or any sports media outlet would be very happy with that idea. Let's then go to the "Other Sports Forum" and discuss baseball or something because there's actually baseball games being played now. Peace bro!

The concerns that he mentioned are valid criticisms.

Ignorant prods like this are exactly the kind of thing that got you in trouble before.

I fail to see your point. This thread started with Michael Lombardi pointing out the reasons he doesn't like what the Dolphins have been doing. I did the same. If you want to poke holes in the Bills, Jets and Pats, that's fine. Go ahead. I'm not about to argue. If people want to know why I'm down on the Dolphins, there are my reasons. If I want to know why you're down on any of the above teams, you've just outlined your reasons for that.

What you seem to be doing is conveninently pretending that I did not say the following:

However, this thread was about Michael Lombardi's reasons why he doubts the Dolphins, and so I enumerated my own.

Well you know what they say about people that ***ume things. Fact of the matter is I endorsed the idea of OchoCinco going to the Pats long before they actually did it, long before they showed any interest. I've been quick to praise them for various maneuvers (Mark Anderson, Chad OchoCinco, Shaun Ellis, drafting Ras-I Dowling, Shane Vereen, Ryan Mallett and Markell Carter, their draft day trades) and also quick to criticize them for other maneuvers I don't like (Andre Carter, Albert Haynesworth, cutting Ty Warren, drafting Nate Solder, Stevan Ridley and Marcus Cannon).

You make assumptions out of ignorance.

Why do anything here on a message board? Why not just keep our mouths shut, watch the television (or attend the games) find out what the team did, and then talk only about what happened after the fact? Why follow the Draft, and predict where players are going to go in the Draft? Why predict who you think will win the Super Bowl? Why play Fantasy Football, predicting which players are going to get stats this year? Why buy jerseys? Why even watch the game when you can just check the results in the newspaper?

You're desperately grasping at straws, trying to find a reason to invalidate my reasons for not liking the Dolphins' prospects, even going so far as acting like it's inappropriate to have a negative opinion about the team and/or to express that opinion, when you COULD just (in a more civil manner) give your counter points on why you like the team's chances, or why you don't buy any or all of the specific criticisms I laid out.

Just to make poeple feel better, Mortensen thinks the Fins could be a factor this year with an improved D and an improved Henne.

So two Parcells mouthpieces have different assessments of the team.

Unfortunately, we won't have to wait for Parcells' mouthpieces as he's back at ESPN again... I never like him as an analyst. I really never liked him as a GM... I loved him as a coach...so, now we'll get the worst case scenario with him, as an analyst trying to be a GM....

    What am I exaggerating?

Who is ranting dude? I didn't "rant" at all in that post. I was respectfully responding to GM. If you're referring to my comment about others making petty insults, well try reading through just the first few posts of the thread.

What are you talking about? What Lombardi said? What word? No, are you following? He spoke on NFLN yesterday. Most of us watched and listened to what he said. If you don't get the channel, it's probably on the website. :wink2:

Again ??? To whom are you referring dude? Who's criticisms? ...and how would you know what's valid if you didn't see the show and didn't hear what he said? Pass the pipe bro.:tongue2::up:

LOL, trouble? What is this grade school?

What I saw was an OP that paraphrased Lombardi without a direct quote, link, or video. Lombardi spoke at length about the Fins http://wqam.com/index.php?page=347 with Joe Rose last week and he seemed lukewarm on the team IMO, but I'm not going to put words in his mouth, whoever wants to listen is free to to so.

Very nice, the small print. The hastily muttered mumbo jumbo at the end of the radio car dealership commercials. You've been predicting doom for the team and calling the FO idiots ad nauseum for the last several months. Dolfan Jake with a brain.

I'm sure Bill Belichek sleeps well at night knowing that you approve of his draft picks and FA acqusitions. Yawn.

Perhaps. But while you were banging the drum for Ryan Mallett I was assuming that Chad Henne would be our QB this season and that none of the other QB options made much sense for us either. I was throwing cold water on the Orton, Palmer, Hasselbeck, Young, etc moves and laughing my *** off at the bullshi!t Favre rumors which you yourself helped to spread accross the site. I've assumed all along that Henne wasn't the problem, and that we needed a new OC, a deep threat, a seam threat, a flat threat, better OL play and some RBs who actually scared the defense. Obviously, I'm on board with most of what we've done this offseason. Still waiting to see what the finished product looks like, but I'm glad that Jeff Ireland and our personnel dept. appear to share my ignorance.

All excellent suggestions, especially for you :tongue2:.

I don't buy them b/c there's no context and they're full of the assumptions you spoke of earlier.

I'd bet dimes to dollars that Bush doesn't even know how many times he'll get the ball and in what scenarios at this point. Your basic premise is that Bush isn't an every down back, as if our staff doesn't know that. That he makes the passing game less efficient. And that our coaches/players won't know how to use him properly, another assumption, and wildly arrogant one I might add.

You're worried that our RB can't take handoffs properly? Is it something you saw in his technique, on film? At training camp?

Clay is working mostly at FB during the FIRST week or training camp. Murtha is working at LT mostly, does anyone assume he'll be there when the season starts? No. According to the team we plan to play Clay at several spots but learning one position can be tough, trying to learn 2 or 3 can leave a player's head swimming. Keep in mind that with Gates, Clay, Bush, and Thomas coming in we have more players we can put out there that aren't named Epps, Mastrud or Shuler and we don't know how much Daboll will use the 2TE set anyway. It all goes back to my overall issue, drawing conclusions is useless at this point.

With Carey and Incognito at G I think we'll see more down blocks from them, with Pouncey doing more pulling than we've seen from the center spot recently. Your point about 2nd level blocking is well taken but I've only seen two practices so far this season and I'd like to see them on the field running some of these plays before I assume they're incapable.

LOL at your arrogance. We signed Douglas and Grant to play DL in camp last year, took a look, and moved on. Maybe we're doing that again, maybe not. It's too early to say how we plan to use them. When Long returns we should have a better idea of what the plan is.

Most teams don't even have a Cam Wake to begin with so it's pretty odd that you'd zero in on that as a weakness. Your beloved Pats are moving to a 4-3 b/c their OLBs suck so bad and yet your'e criticizing Miami b/c they ONLY have one of the Top 5 pass rushers in the league? C'mon man. Odrick and Merling are back this year, Starks has shown he can generate pressure, Misi may improve, Burnett is better as a blitzer than Crowder ever was. Will Allen is effective off the edge, Bell is a decent rusher, Clemons and Jones both had sacks in limited opportunities to rush the passer last year. We have some options in terms of generating pressure, certainly more than the vast majority of the league.

You also lose his bad knee, bad groin, bad shoulder, poor coverage, poor blitzing and non existent play making ability. Dansby was our QB on defense last year from what I saw, and Burnett is a veteran guy who's a known quantity to our staff so I'm not worried there. Crowder'll be missed in the locker room but at the end of the day you just criticized the team for cutting a player who immediately retired after he was released. If that doesn't change your opinion then I don't know what will.

HUH? You just implied that losing Crowder was a bad thing but keeping Bell, who hasnt missed a game in 3 years is a bad thing b/c he's old and injury prone? Bell is force in the locker room according to Sparano and while he's lost a step you'd be hard pressed to find a SS who is as solid and consistent as he is. Clemons had a solid season IMO, Jones looked decent as a rookie, both could be even better this season as they battle each other for playing time. I don't see safety as a weakness by any means.

Between Edds and Trusnik hopefully we can fill Dobbins role, even though I don't recall him making any plays on ST last year. Amaya was let go in exchange for Bush, hard to argue with that and Jimmy Wilson figures to take his role on ST. Cobbs' was a solid ST coverage guy who will be missed, but as a 3rd RB he was useless on offense and horrible as a KR. I think we can find someone else to run down on kick coverage, but I'm just assuming there :wink2:.

    Nice disclaimer .

I agree w/ you. I find Lombardi to be one of the few media types who speaks as if he's done his homework on the Fins and I take his opinion, good or bad, very seriously.

What I object to is the selective usage of this or that analyst to buttress preconceived notions about the team. Not talking about you, or anyone in particular. Lombardi spoke at length on QAM the other day but he didn't say anything overly negative and it didn't get much attention. Then he goes on NFLN and gives a soundbite and now it's a big deal.

We're installing a new offense, with a new OC, several rookies and other new players, all w/o any OTAs or mini camps prior to training camp. A little patience shouldn't be too much to ask and yet a significant portion of the fans here are ready to tuck tail and run. I simply don't agree.

I hear ya' or I read ya'. I can't help how people react. Regardless of his criticisms or concerns, which I think are most definitely valid, I will always root like the psycho Phinfan that I am. S--t, I stuck through the Cleo Lemon year and rooted and cheered and jumped around like a madman for every first down just like I did with every QB this team has had.(Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of jumping around that year) So, no tuckin' tail hear my man.

    LOL.. Seriously?

Again, go and do some reading about just what fascism means. I say reading because Webster's Dictionary won't cut it with that word. Homerism shares no tenets with fascism.

"Homerism", in terms of football, is nothing more than the inability to look at a favorite team objectively or without bias and instead just proclaim that a team is "the greatest" without providing any compelling argument as to why this is true. I see very few "homers" here. However, I see a lot of guys who love their favorite team and choose to look at the entire picture instead of just the negatives. The typical poster here is able to talk both about the positives and the negatives.

Now the pessimists, that you seem to favor, do nothing more than pout, flail, whine, and complain. They never look at any positive aspect of the team and get called out. And rightly so. Why be a fan of a team if you can find NOTHING to be a fan about?

No, this is a Dolphins fan community with terms of service that are expected to be observed. It's a place where people should be in the habit of being civil to one another, not acting like a child just because you don't agree with a person's opinion. And that tendency to lash outis exactly what got you in trouble with the staff and got you bannedf or a while.

    Incredible maturity there.

First off, no I did not spread the Favre rumors. Second, nice change of subject. I said you assumed things out of ignorance about what I would have said about the Dolphins if they signed Chad OchoCinco. You assumed that I would criticize it. It's pretty clear, that's what you said, and I labeled it for what it was: an ignorant assumption. Now you're changing the subject to all manner of things to try and distract from that fact.

Wasn't it you that said something about grade school? Is it really too much to ask to actually debate these issues like a respectful adult?

Tell that to Tony Sparano who said straight up that he thinks Reggie Bush is an every down back. Tell that to Reggie Bush who said that when they talked to him they told him that they were not going to get any other running backs, and they view him as a featured back. Reporters close to the Dolphins have consistently said he gets about 15 to 17, or 16 to 18 touches per game. Of course it's an assumption, but it has basis. The sun rising tomorrow is an assumption too, but it has basis.

I said exactly what I think. Re-read it if you're having trouble misinterpreting it.

You're right, playing a bunch of spots in your rookie season CAN leave your head spinning. The Dolphins appear to be settling Charles Clay in at fullback, which means that Shuler, Mastrud and Epps are once again battling for the #2 and #3 TE positions. Do we know how much he'll use 2-TE sets? Of course not. But there's some precedent to say that Chad Henne is effective out of those, and by having Shuler, Mastrud and Epps be the only TEs on roster behind Fasano, the Dolphins are limiting themselves.

    It's called a criticism.

They gave Marc Colombo a $2 million, 1 year contract with $1 million of his money guaranteed. If what you suggest is true and they're just checking Colombo out with the idea that they'll most likely cut him, then they deserve criticism for giving him a million dollars of Stephen Ross' money, of valuable salary cap, for no reason.

    1. The Dolphins aren't trying to be "most teams". They're trying to have a top 5 defense.

    2. Cameron Wake's being a top performing pass rusher in 2010 was an INTEGRAL part of their defensive success. If he drops off, the defense is in danger of doing so as well. This isn't rocket science.

    3. Yes Burnett is a better blitzer and that may help mitigate any dropoff in production from Wake. But he is just a blitzer, and blitzing him necessitates giving something up in your scheme. His strength is in his coverage. Blitz him and you take that coverage off the table. It's safer to count on the pass rushers to do the pass rushing.

    4. Merling is not a very good football player. Blitzing DBs is risky. You may find that if you have to blitz a lot more of all these players because Wake is not as productive as he was in 2010, then all the sudden the good coverage we took for granted in 2010 disappears.

    1. Crowder didn't retire because he didn't have offers. He retired because he didn't want to move, because he has a baby on the way. In fact I heard a report saying Belichick told him that whenever his heart is back in it, he has a job with the Patriots.

    2. Going off career averages, how many more interceptions and forced fumbles do you expect Burnett to have this year? One? Two at most? I personally don't think those are as important as increased efficiency on the 500 or so run snaps that Burnett will see.

    1. I didn't say that keeping Bell is a bad thing. I said there's a risk in counting on Yeremiah Bell. Just as there would be a risk in counting on Channing Crowder. If Crowder stayed and they picked nobody up behind him, you would have seen a similar criticism listed here about the risk in counting on Crowder considering how injury prone he is. The Dolphins MAY have mitigated that injury risk with Burnett (I notice reports of Burnett limping around the practice field on that knee he's had trouble with the last few years), but by doing so they introduced a new risk. My opinion was they should have signed Nick Barnett.

    2. As for Bell himself, what did I say that was wrong? He's getting older, he's got an injury past. Marc Colombo had an injury past, and he'd made it through a number of seasons without missing games with the Cowboys, but then he breaks a fibula and has more knee troubles and starts sucking during games. It can catch up with you. It's a risk. The Dolphins haven't done much to mitigate the risk, not at SS or at FS. They've been drafting late round guys and grooming them. All I'm saying is even though I agree with you that our safety play was solid but unspectacular in 2010, guys that did their jobs but couldn't create turnovers, I wonder if in 2011 we'll start seeing them give up plays because Chris Clemons got away with not being tested deep much and Yeremiah Bell could start to suffer the injuries that he older players go through and that he once went through (big and small) earlier in his career.

I don't see any basis for your assumptions. This staff does not boast a good record with special teams.

Nice way to keep the conversation disrespectful instead of keeping it on topic.

    ''Wow! Holy Poop Batman!!
Up until this point, Lombardi and has been widely regarded by most here, I included, as one of the few guys on that show whom have the most credibility and knowledge, etc. We've discussed that here several times and most everyone agreed. Now, he comes out and expresses some concerns and negativity about the team and it's recent moves and now he's now a clueless douche??? This is ridiculous. ...and this is coming from someone whom could easily be termed a "homer", one whom proudly wears his aqua and orange colored lenses. It amazes me that there are actually people here trying to discredit Lombardi and his career and experience, etc? Geez!''

To me Sceet, thats an overreaction to those who are disagreeing with him...Who called him a ''clueless douche'' that you respect on this board?, show me?..

I simply stated that the concerns that were listed that folks said that he said, were valid on our team..

I also asked how did he use the word fail?, in what context did he use the word, fail to make the playoff's, fail to win a game?, coach will be fired if we go 0 and 2 out of the gate?

Mike Lombardi picked the Dolphins to be a surprise Super Bowl contender last year I believe. He's been wrong before. Matter of factly, it's been a while since I remember him being correct on anything Miami Dolphins.

I don't say that to discredit him, but his prognostications last year were incorrect, the Kolb/Miami pipeline were incorrect, along with others. He could be wrong about this. He has valid concerns as do most of the fan base.

I don't know any Dolphins fans that are entering 2011 without any doubts. Some may be showing blind optimism, which isn't a bad thing for a fan either.

My biggest fears for this team:
    QB play
    Running game
    Special Teams
    Defense causing TOs

The most likely to reduce my worries, I'd say ST's play, causing more turnovers & QB play. The running game still has the looks of a mediocre unit. I don't see any RB that shows the potential to consistently move the chains in that group. Nor, do I believe the OLine is built to churn out chunk yardage there either.

My loyalties lie with the team, and the board, but never with any individual player or member. If I see anyone making biased or ill informed rants against my team then I'll say something. FYI I've never been banned or come close to getting banned, but correcting all of your erroneous statements is becoming a real chore so perhaps a break wouldn't be so bad.

You take this forum stuff too seriously.

Yeah you're right. You didn't start them, you just claimed to have known about them before hand.

If anything, I envision a Julius Jones-Marion Barber style of rotation. Bush may start the games, but we'll have another back in there to do the dirty work. My assumption is that Bush will be used on screens, draws, outside zones, check downs, reverses, ST etc. Not for punding the ball between the tackles. I have more faith in our coaches than you do, in other words.

You're still assuming. It's also possible that they are teaching Clay the FB position first, with the intention of using him as a TE, or flex TE later on in the process. Again, we've only hit the two week mark. In a normal offseason Clay would have had several camps to get up to speed but everything is condensed this year so perhaps they are leery of putting too much on his plate too soon. We simply don't know yet.

I didn't say they intend on cutting him, but I see your point. 2 millie is a nice chunk of change and Vet contracts become guaranteed once they make the opening day roster anyway IIRC. I'd like to hear your take on why inserting Garner into the starting lineup is a a good idea that the coaches might not be "smart enough" to execute.

Yes, we're a run the ball & play D team. It's one of the reasons I've found your fixation on the QB position a little off base.

I outlined some ways and players we could use to ease some of the pressure on Wake, I don't think we'll be as dependent on him as we were last year.

Part of preventing teams from keying on Wake is having effective rushers coming from other areas, Burnett helps in that role and as you noted he's a lot better than Crowder in coverage as well.

Merling is our 6th DE, I don;t expect him to be very good. My hope is that he can provide some situational pass rush in our nickel packages so that guys like Soliai & Langford can stay fresh and do their primary job, stop the run.

You're arguing a point that I didn't make. And unless you have a quote from Crowder I am going to assume that you're simply offering your opinion on why he hasn't signed. For me, what's important is whether or not our defense is better with Burnett or not. I like what I've heard about him, but until I see him play...

I have no idea. Dansby was a virtual ball hawk who came up w/ a doughnut last year but IMO he was a huge upgrade, especially in the pass game, over Crowder. I'm willing to sacrifice a little run defense for the increased pass rushing and coverage skills b/c as a unit our defense is very stout against vs ground attacks so I expect the rest of the front 7 to be able to handle any slack that may be created in our run fronts.

I hear we tried to sign Barnett but there was a typo on the fax and we ended up with Burnett instead. Tough break.

No disagreement there. IMO Bell was a liability in coverage even last year, but he's still a force in the box and one of the most respected locker room guys. I agree there's risk but we cant be strong everywhere and with Crowder gone Bell's leadership becomes even more important, even if his on the field play is in a bit of a decline.

I was hoping more than I was assuming .

Poor coaching? Too much roster churning? I dunno. But ST was a disaster last year, more so than any of the more publicized deficiencies IMO.

Lighten up man, it's not that serious.

I agree to all those. They are called our weakness. Until they get fixed those weakness points exist. Lombardi is going by what hes seen, not what he is yet to see. Hindsight is great eh.

LOL, I see your Lemon and raise you a Beck. I was dead set against taking a QB in 08 b/c I wanted to see what Beck could do. And I was wanted Amobi Okoye instead of Teddy. Oops.

For once, can we all just agree that we all make biased opinions here? It's getting a little hypocritical when we start going around taking issue with biased opinions. Every opinion shows bias. I think it's pretty easy to ascertain when we're all Miami Dolphins fans, chatting on a Miami Dolphins message board, about the Miami Dolphins. To think there isn't any bias lying in those thoughts would be pretty naive, IMO.

Didn't we take Jake Long in 08? It's either here nor there, but I'm right there with you. The 2005 & 2007 drafts stunk. As much talent as Ronnie Brown had and he was a slightly above average player over the duration of his career here, we really got stuck in those drafts. Funny thing is, Ted Ginn proved more productive than Brady Quinn & Amobe Okoye.

Off the top of my head, we got it right with Jake Long, Vernon Carey, and Vontae Davis here recently in the 1st rounds.

:lol:Well, I see your Beck and I'll raise you an A.J. Feeley, but then you'll see my Feeley and raise me a Culpepper, but then I'll see your Culpepper and raise you a Frerotte and so on and so on..... How sad.

Still. during those times, my love for the Phins never wavered.....though it did get a bit more drunk than unusual.
