Should we really be shocked? If there is one position we have treated worse than QB it is TE. Miller would have been an immense upgrade over Fasano in passing situations and would have become the #1. Fasano would have become the #2, getting a few passing snaps but working a lot on short yardage/goal line situations.
Chances are we aren't going to be running as many 2 TE sets. Also, early news so far from the camps have Clay/Brackett looking at least intriguing for the moment. Miami purely doesn't have the cap room to sign right now. They are asking Carey to take a pay cut just so they can make a signing. $17.5 million guaranteed is an insane number for a TE not named Gonzalez in his prime.

Odd. I stand corrected, however I still believe that the drop # is a good one for Fasano. He's very quality. And I agree! I like him!
Top 5 is Top 5. Add in he's easily in the top 3 for blocking and still can contribute over 500 yards receiving. That's an all around guy. I'm curious how he does in this offense, because I don't think Henne will be allowed to keep him in as a blocker as much. Sounds like Fasano may be moved wide more often. Nothing wrong with that....just not at $17.5 million. Honestly I think our TE situation is the best it's been since David Martin was the #2 TE. I'm intrigued by this Clay guy and I want to see this Brackett guy with full pads on. Both of them have speed that must be accounted for in the seams.
Bhhhhhhhig sighhhhhhh. My condensed Fasano player assessment: Fasano doesn't have the athletic ability or natural pass catching talent to be a true #1 TE threat, but he is serviceable. He's a great blocker, and if you hit him in the numbers he can catch the ball and run a defender over for a few extra yards. Anthony's avg per catch was misleading b/c, if there's one thing that Henning did do well, it was figuring out ways to get his TE the ball in space. If only Henning worked that hard to get Marshall the ball in space (but that would require Dan to update his 2008 playbook). Mysteries of life. Any of you coaches etc can correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it easier for a TE to pick up some chunk yardage (and look good in the process) during high/low stretch plays (or similar variation) to Marshall's vacated area with Brandon drawing so much attention? Isn't that how Fasano picked up a bulk of his yards where as a guy like Zach Miller can create more plays on his own?
