First thing I wondered is if Omar spoke out of turn (e.g. naming Ross).

No doubt Ireland would still love to have Orton. And he'd be open to talking again. But Denver's gonna have to initiate.

If he costs too much leave it alone. Check back on it in a bit of time and see. The one advantage is that trading for Orton doesn't require him to learn a completely foreign system to him. That allows to be patient - for a bit - we don't have 3 weeks to wait, but we can certainly afford a week or so to let Denver sit for a bit.

They have to do something, and frankly right now I like this move. Don't give up too much for a guy who while an upgrade isn't a large upgrade. Orton stands out becasue this year for QB's is a weak market overall.

Just because the deal is dead today doesn't mean its dead forever.

if Ross made them eat Henne and sink or swim with him...I would be thrilled. No more scapegoating.

    Agree Con.

The more you panic and/or give in, the thicker the book around the league gets on you.

If teams know you'll eventually cave, they'll just wait you out.

This is just a bluff/staredown contest, and sometimes you have to actually hold the cards. By making this move, it just reassures Denver that even if we do make this move for Orton we won't won't be overpaying, we do have a bit more leverage in that regards. It ain't much more than a 5% increase, but we did essentially put the pressure on Denver to eat that contract. He will be a FA next year, so unless Denver decides to resign him, it benefits the long term interests of the team to trade him. They don't have to mind you, as they could continue to sprinkle Tebow in this season to get him some more seasoning.

To me its a good move just for leverage.

I know we'd better all pray and sacrifice a live chicken so that Henne stays healthy. Otherwise, holy **** will it be ugly.

Maybe the coaches did buy the rewind package..lol...of course they rewatched the tape, of course they saw what that senile bastard did to him, of course they saw how pathetic and unaggressive their 2 starting running backs were, of course they saw weakness at the center position, of course they identified that they had no speed on the offensive side of the ball, anywhere, of course they saw no true outlet for the QB, of course they recognized that their special teams is a major part of football, of course they understood that realization gave Henne the worse starting field position in the league, of course they realized the guy running the offense took the ball out of his hands at critical times. Of course they realized how valuable our draft picks are, of course they realized that their record should of been a winning one if it wasn't for defensive int drops and the worst call of the year.

Henne deserves the reigns..the additions, the subtractions, the weaknesses clearly being addressed, the unjust benching, the fact that he played good football before that benching, the fact that he led one of the most attended offseason programs while other teams and players were sitting on their ***, clearly it would not be easy for anyone to walk in and take over a team that could very well of formed a strong bond, and, the simple idea that Chad Henne, has an exceptional arm, that is not worth giving up on.

It was Ben Volin who got the quote (want to give credit where it's due). And Ross said it in an indirect roundabout way.

I know what Chad Henne can do that those guys can't..

Make every throw in the book with serious velocity...When you think your going to be running a precise quick tempo offense, with some spread concepts, I feel that skillset is important.

the way i see it the dolphins should sink or swim with henne this season, if they traded for orton and the dolphins finished 6-10 or 7-9 sparano is gone the new staff is going to clean house anyway, so you minds well try with henne and see if he can lead the team if not the same happens.

Total guess here, but maybe Ross is coming out to say the deal is dead as A) A message to Broncos & the league that we're not to be trifled with. B) A message to the guys in camp today that Henne is the guy & no we're not looking to replace him. Anymore.

    yes it was.

Trent Green was a lock to come..and Wanny said..."What can Trent Green do that Jay Fiedler can't?"

well..for one...make the pro bowl twice right after that statement was made..and for another....have 4 consecutive years of +90 QB ratings.

It doesn't matter. These guys have a short period of time to maximize their earning potential. Nobody wants their production to be inhibited by their QB. They look at it as money out of their pocket.

A couple of days ago, I said, wouldn't it be funny if this Henne/Orton thing went down exactly like the "We want to replace Sparano - or not" thing. Well, it seems to go down like that. It just isn't very funny.

They may "want" him, but they certainly aren't going about getting him. And every day that Orton clearly outperforms Tebow in camp is another day that Denver gets closer to restructuring his contract and keeping him

I think 8/4 the Cap matters, right now it does not particularly "count".

Darlington wrote a long story about the Orton situation and it boils down to he feels his play in 2010 merits a paycut, which leaves the Broncos in a hard place.

I believe there is still an interest in Orton, and I believe the Dolphins are banking on the fact that if they continue to express interest to Orton's agent, he will refuse to restructure with Denver forcing a release or a trade at the Dolphins terms. It is a smart move. Orton knows he's likely a back up, so why should he restructure? Even if he starts, as soon as he has a bad string of games Denver will be calling for Tebow.

Orton wants out, and Miami is playing this very well. A lot better than being desperate and giving yet another 2nd rounder for an above average QB.

Why doesn't he just shut up? This guy talks football like he has actually dedicated a significant portion of his life to learning the game.

And last year, Henne was the next Dan Marino.
