No, I'm merely putting Orton's salary in context.

And now you'll have to excuse me. I have to call Tampa Bay and offer my services as a backup holder. My asking price is 10 million guaranteed and they can cut me whenever they like. They can call me Shirley, too.

Contrary to common Dolphin fan belief, Denver is already well below the salary cap.

A nice conspiracy theory. I would love it to be true, but I do not believe that Ross is capable of pull something like this and preserve the top 3 round picks for the new regime. He's just not that bright of a owner football wise.

Sounds an awful lot like what we've done to Henne the last two seasons...While they did add Marshall, if he's the only target, it's also easier to defend...

Wow. Talk about being over dramatic. It's Kyle freakin Orton. Who really cares if the deal goes through or not. He's only a slight upgrade anyway.

Besides, its nothing compared to the embarrassment that idiot Ross put this franchise through in January/February.

True, and not to mention that when that babe asked Orton about the trade talks, he said "What's done is done"...indicating that the deal may, in fact, be off already...

even with henne beeing so bad as he was last year, we still went 7-9 and with some breaks could have been easily 8-8, 9-7, so yeah its impossible for us with this defense to have any chance to be in a spot to draft luck, but your are always in debbie downer mode i see

A number of other teams needed QBs, and their situations differ. From what I know, none had much if any interest in Orton. Guys like Gradkowski, T Jackson, A Smith, etc were chosen instead. It appears that no one, including Denver, sees him as the answer.

I read a quote from Orton where he said he was looking for a long term deal at over $6M a year. Based on the starting QB "money meter" he doesn't consider himself as the answer either. Kolb got almost double that.

Yeah, the only way it becomes 'embarrassing' is if they end up giving up a 3rd round or higher pick for another mediocre QB...

And with a few bad breaks, we could have easily been 3-13 as well, given that we won 4 of our 7 games with less than 7 points.

No, I'm just not in a permanent rose-colored glasses mode :)

But since it's so "impossible", why don't you agree to give me 50 bucks should Miami finish with 4 or less wins. Should be no problem to agree to that since it's simply not possible.

I'm wondering if leading player workouts with a new playbook has improved Henne's game and attitude.

Well that's all fine and dandy but you don't always have "the answer" and a responsible team IMO will keep a documented starter to work along side a growing prospect. To me it's irresponsible what the Broncos are attempting with the Orton trade. If there was ever a raw QB prospect that will need the cushion of a full developmental period before being thrown into the leadership role it's Tebow. If I'm a Broncos fan I'm dissapointed in the mgmt. team.
IMO they'd be smart to restructure Orton and keep him to compete and work alongside Tebow.

We could've been 3-13 as easily as we could've been 10-6. Most games in the NFL come down to one score and we've been mostly terrible in those kinds of games the last two years. Particularly in December.

I think our over/under in Vegas is 6.5. Sounds about right to me. We're a 7 win team

I'd put us in the same category. However, a 7 win team can easily finish with 4 when it underachieves and as easily finish with 10 when it overachieves. I wouldn't put either end of the spectrum outside the realm of the possible right now. Should we eventually acquire Orton, I'd add a win to the original number.

Just overall this past year has been a poster board of how NOT to run your front office, coming in second only to Cinny....The fact they are in SoFlo I think makes up for alot, and is the reason why Miami is deemed somewhat attractive to free agents...

Case in point, look at this statement, what is he trying to say here? You know how effing bad this sounds??

If you have confidence, why are you trying to upgrade..?

I think Denver thought that with soo many teams looking for a QB, there would be a bidding war for Orton where they could get a great return for their rebuilding. Didn't happen.

i cant remember any game that we won, were we won because of the other team , we won the games because our defense made a stop or the offense made a play, maybe the 2nd jets game, where one of their receivers dropped a wide open TD in the endzone but thats it, in the losses though thats a different story, we all know the pittsburgh game, the buffalo game were our kicker managed to hit 0-4 FG“s and the dropped INT against the browns, there were only 3 games all year were we blew it, 2 games against the patriots and the baltimore game....and about the not permanent rose-colored glasses...i wrote this because i actually have never seen you write something positive about this team...which could make me believe you are in real a ........JETS FAN in disguise....:shifty:

Why would we go after Orton when, under these situations (good running game & defense) Henne would have no problem getting us to the playoffs as well? Honestly, when the defense plays well and we run effectively, we win.

So what you're saying is when things around Orton were missing, he didn't play as well? When Miami has no #2 TE (or an injured #1), plays a bunch of practice sqaud WRs (thanks to injuries to Marshall & Hartline), has a messed up Oline, no ground game, a QB with a sprained knee, no vertical threat b/c Ginn wasn't replaced, and a crappy OC, a lot of Dolphin fans call this "excuse making". lol.

I could be wrong...but I thought Henne's numbers in the red zone were actually pretty good. He also has had 3 or 4 4th quarter comeback wins, in his two seasons starting. Factor in how good he is on third down, I don't think it's fair to say that he is no good under pressure.

I hear that, however not the smartest thing to say in the least when you have a QB with shot confidence to begin with.....I mean I get the putting on a happy face, even if you think the team isn't good from an owners standpoint, he has to sell tickets.....But Ross's who demeanor has been I am not meddling in personnel moves, and then talks about it? While frankly sticking his foot in his mouth in doing so....just doesnt sound right. Just forward all questions to Ireland about players....actually Pete, why is he even doing an interview in the first place? I could be wrong but the only other owner I have seen talk is Jones....

That statement isn't about an insurance plan, what Andy Reid will say about VY is an insurance plan, this is about Henne not being good enough in Ross's eyes.....

Then you need to look a little harder because I've written plenty of positive things about this team. I agree that they've grown a little less and far in between as this FO has had a certain tendancy to do precisely what I thought they shouldn't do from 2009 onwards. And incidentally, the majority of the moves I criticized and took a lot of heat for in here (trying to make Pat White into a QB, calling Pat Turner a complete waste of a draft selection, thinking that Chad Henne would significantly improve in 2010, not liking our interior OL approach in 2010 in the least, to name a few) turned out be pretty questionable after all. When this front office does something I consider wise (like the Cameron Wake sign, for instance) I happily write something positive about it. Problem is, they haven't done exactly a whole lot of things I consider wise in the past 2 1/2 years.

As for the Jets accusation ... don't tell anyone, okay? I'll be back in a bit after I've dressed up Mark Sanchez in drag for the party tonight.

I don't know how to link to a tweet, but Michael Lombardi just tweeeted:

"Everyone in the league believes that Denver cannot keep Orton on the team when the cap starts today--so Miami just sits and waits..."

Looks like my theory is backed up by "everyone in the league". But, we'll wait and see!

And Ted Sundquist - their former GM - is on record saying that Denver is actually 17 million under and that the rumors flying around about Denver being over the cap are completely false.

I think Lombardi means they cannot devote that much money to the QB position, not that they physically can't afford him under the cap. But, as I said earlier, we'll see!
