Schefter is saying the trade for Orton trade has cooled off and is on life support. Denver and/or Orton are asking for more than Miami is willing to give (4th rounder). I'm not a big Orton fan, and don't have a problem with it.

However, I am wondering if Ireland is, at least somewhat, restricted in what he can do. We all know that this is a do or die year for our coaches, and our FO could well be included. I'm not accusing Ross, or anyone else, of limiting Irelad but, looking at two, two year contracts for young players along with this standoff does make one wonder.

Is Irish making smart moves or, is he doing what he is allowed?

I like Ireland's patience. He knows Denver is gonna cut Orton. His cap number is too big for a backup QB.

Except he is killing it in early camp and taking all the 1st team snaps....... So maybe he will stick there and be the starter.

This deal isn't going to happen.

There is a thing called re-structuring, and Denver will do it.

I think Denver should keep him personally. I think he's their best chance to win.

With that said, while I know he was better than Henne last season, I want to see what Henne can do with this team this year. I know he likely won't get that chance if we get Orton.

Reports are that there is no way Orton will be cut. Also, there are reports of not wanting to go long term with Soliai. I'm not sure what to think.

Denver is not going to cut Orton. If he stays on the team he's going to start. At $8.4 Million that's not a big # for a starter. Denver knows, however, that Orton is not their future.

If he plays well through the season again, I'm sure they'll try and extend him at some point before the last game.

The Broncos would be insane to trade Orton for a 4th round selection. To be honest, if I were them, I would hesitate to trade him for a 3rd round selection, either. I'd redo his contract (taking the one he apparently hammered out with Miami as a blueprint) and wait for QBs to get hurt in camp or before the trading deadline. Chances are, someone will be desperate enough to cough up a 2nd, especially if Orton plays well in the first couple of weeks. Chances are, that someone is named Jeff Ireland.

Mark Scherlith (sp), who has many ties to Denver, said they do dot see Orton as the answer, want to see if Tebow is, and points to Orton's problems in the red zone, 4th quarter, under pressure, and playing from behind.

Some of the best deals are the ones you don't make.

That doesn't free up cap space to add players now, which brings me back to how much Ireland can do. I hope I'm proven wrong in the next few days.

I hope Henne comes out this morning, and all next week and lights the world on fire (i know, i know "practice champion")

I just would like to see him smiling, high fiving the guys, hitting gates in stride, lobbing it up to marshall and all-around showing this Orton fiasco isnt bothering him.

Funny, how Tony Sporano is watching (and maybe involved) in doing to Henne what Ross did to him just a few months ago (Publically courting your replacement, while faking their trust in you and your abilities)

I think Denver knows that Tebow has proven to be the answer yet either. He brings excitement with his several rushing TDs and he sells a lot of jerseys. I think his passing skills are still a long way off from convincing Elway and Co. Orton isn't the long term answer, but like he would be for us, he's a nice temporary safety blanket.

Stick to your guns Ireland. 4th + player, nothing higher.

VY isn't the answer either. He needs to go be a backup for a year with Andy Reid, get his head on straight. Bringing VY into our camp, with no prep time, with new coordinator and new RBs and new Olinemen is a recipe for some bad cooking. Plus, if VY really had his head on straight, why wouldn't he be pushing harder to be a starter somewhere instead of a backup to Michael Vick?

I know that there is "a thing called re-structuring". However, Orton has to AGREE to the restructuring. If he knows the Dolphins will pay him more, for more years, he can refuse to re-structure and force Denver to cut him.

Tebow is the man in Denver. $8 million is too much to pay for a backup. Believe it. Orton is the #2 guy in Denver, despite who's taking practice reps with the #1's in camp.

I think it's pretty likely that they are trying to wait the Broncos out on their price.

At this point a couple days of Orton in camp is less valuable than a bigger pick.

Bronco fan chiming in...I guess I am one of the 8% who wants Denver to keep Orton, because Tebow really needs another year with a clipboard...mayby two.

If you get Orton, do not let the media establish a misconception and prejudiced against Kyle. He is not elite, but with a good running game and defense he will get you to the playoffs. You should all check out the 3rd down, 4th qrt, and redzone work Kyle did when he had BMarsh as his WR. Josh took away his redzone target, his TE, and put a couple rookies on the OL in 2010. Think you will be surprised at how much better Kyle was in 2009 in the areas he is getting called out on.

    Peace!

Yeah, because it makes so much sense to have the QB you absolutely want to get rid of take first team snaps in a shortened offseason with no OTAs or minicamps and in a new offense - instead of the particularly raw 2nd year player who desperately needs every rep he can get.

Believe is the proper term indeed.

Even if we traded for Orton today, if he restructures his deal he can't come to camp right away anyway.

This....I walk if I am Miami....listen if Denver wanted to do the deal they would have right now.....KO isnt Tom Brady or some superstar where a team is holding out for all they can get...they have a log jam at QB, and if any of you caught Total Access yesterday, besides seeing the ridiculously hot reporter in Denver, you would have noticed it is causing a huge sh*tshow down there as well.....

Personally, I've seen everything I'd need to see with Chad Henne. That said, you might as well scratch this Orton business, sign a vet backup and some interior OL help and go down swinging with your handpicked quarterback. Look, you either think that Kyle Orton is able to win you games, a division and in the playoffs. In which case you shell out a 3rd round selection and get this over with. Or you think that Orton's simply an upgrade over Chad Henne, in which case you keep your bloody 4th round selection and go tell your owner that in the best interest of this franchise, there's not much out there you can get to considerably improve the position. And if he decides to fire your arse eventually, it's not like you got anybody to blame besides yourself.

Our team overall is too solid to suck for Luck. However, I'd rather live/die with Henne this year. If he picks up his game....great. If he doesn't...clean house and use that draft pick that would have gone to Orton along with others to move up and get a guy.

That's what Panthers fans thought after they finished 8-8 in 2009. I'm not saying that we'll end up the same way, but whenever your quarterback position is in a limbo, there's always the chance that your season goes down in flames. Start 0-2 (something I would not consider impossible, given it's NE and our old nemesis from HOU), have Henne stink it up in Cleveland and you're in for a treat already, especially in an environment like Miami.

And no, I'm not going to argue if we're a better team than Carolina was in 09. It's simply an analogy.

By the way, Tampa Bay just gave Michael Koenen a 19.5 million contract with 6.5 million guaranteed. In case you wonder who Michael Koenen is: He's the #28 punter in the league.

I'm well aware. I'm just saying that 8 million for a backup quarterback (which Orton by all accounts is not) won't exactly stick out like a sore thump once this offseason is over. Factoring in the signing bonus, he's making less than one of the league's worst punters.
