You would think they learned their lesson??? PARAMUS — For the second night in a row, a man walked into a jewelry store at the Westfield Garden State Plaza mall on Wednesday, asked to see an expensive watch, and ran off with it. The latest theft was reported just after 9 p.m. by employees at Michael Matthews Jewelers. The watch, priced at $7,800, is worth just a fraction of the $42,000 Techno-Master watch reported stolen from the same store on Tuesday night. Deputy Chief Richard Cary of the Paramus police said authorities are exploring the possibility that the thefts are linked. In both cases, a man entered the store on the mall's lower level, asked to see a watch and then ran off with it after a clerk removed it from a display case. http://www.northjersey.com/news/cri...elry_store_robbed_for_2nd_straight_night.html
There are no such thing as clerks anymore. These people are salesman/saleswomen. It's in their job description to prevent theft any way they can. You should always have a spotter (another employee watching your back) while you let a customer handle an expensive item such as a watch. Both employees who let these A-holes get away should be fired IMO.
I don't know if I'd call them dumb. If someone asks to see something you are selling you are inclined to let them see it. I'd say the store is dumb for not having better security.
Its more careless than anything. Alot of jewelery stores dont have better security because well...they're cheap. The mark-up is higher on jewelery than almost anything else you can buy. Yes you're going to let them see it but there are ways to go about covering your *** as a salesperson. I worked retail for almost 10 years and have seen every clever way to steal something you can imagine.
