The Reds should make a run at Shields as well.

Tampa said they're not trading Shields this year, so take that for whatever it's worth.

Oh I'm sure if a team went overboard on an offer for Shields TB would do it.

Yeah I didn't think the Rays/Reds thing had any legs to it to begin with. I mean there was nothing on it on Twitter and not sure how WFAN in NY would have the first scoop on something happening in TB or CIN anyway.

Maybe you just need better friends FinYank?

Anthony Rizzo was labeled a bust in this thread after 117 at-bats in the MLB as a 21 year old?

Yup pretty wild and somewhat amusing but also a bit sad too. I mean come on Mainge, let's ignore what the kid has done in the minors prior to the call up and just focus on those 117 at bats where he didn't put up Albert Pujols numbers. He's a bust, next.

Looks like the Mets are about to deal Beltran...Olney, Heyman and every NY beat writer saying its done, just trying to confirm whether its Zach Wheeler or Gary brown + two other prospects.

    Good haul for nym

I'm still happy. Wheeler is a top 40 prospect with ace potential. Considering beltrans contract literally prohibits the mets from getting any kind of draft pick compensation this is a serious haul. Alderson is awesome!

Beltran also has said he would consider coming back to NYM in the offseason. Mets reportedly covering 4M of the 6M he is still owed. Good luck to him in sf, he should help them in a good way

How is that stunning? They're not a very good team and their front office is realistic and knows that with the team they have they won't be able to compete. They're 13.5 games back in their division and have to jump past 4 other teams in the wild card standings. Their roster even with Beltran and KRod isn't good enough to beat out either Philly or Atlanta so why hang on to Beltran and get nothing for him instead of getting a pretty good prospect back.

And yes kudos to the Mets for getting a good prospect back for Beltran. Today's winners are clearly the Blue Jays and Mets (probably the Giants too).

Granted small sample size but since Rizzo has been sent down he's put up a stat line of .381/.458/.762/1.22 with 2 HRs in 5 games and 21 at bats and that's not including the HR he already hit tonight. Again small sample size but it's clear the kid can flat out hit (as well as play above average defense), he just wasn't ready for big league pitching, which is understandable because again he's only 21 years old. But hey let's just write him off already right?

A lot of their pitching is young and in the system. It's obviously not there yet, but it's coming, in theory anyway.

Morrow and Drabek are key. If they pan out (or improve in Morrow's case), their front 3 will be sick.

I read that this morning and thought "the rockies must be crazy if they think they are gonna get any of those people, from any of those teams." I dont see the yankees pulling the trigger unless they think montero has reached his potential and isnt going to get any better, and Yonder Alonso isnt going anywhere for a long long time.

This doesn't even appear to be on ESPN yet but I found the news on the Braves website.

The Braves have acquired center fielder Michael Bourn from the Astros in exchange for
I love this trade even though he's a lefty he gives them speed they desperately needed.
